Finding an Apartment in NY

So I'm going to be moving out in the next few months and my apt search is on.

And like many, it's been difficult to find something worth the rent.

I'm not trying to pay more the $1500 a month...looking for Queens / Long Island area. Been looking at Forest Hills, Rego Park...

Any tips of where to look...sites like Trulia?

Moving from Cali to NYC been looking on craigslist. They can actually charge you an apartment fee???

There are a number of NYC apartment search sites (aside from Craigslist)  which may be helpful - for most of them you can narrow down between "fee" and "no fee". I'm sure I'm missing a bunch.

i have a 2bd apt in the bronx. Looking for a roommate for 2/28/14 rent would be $850. Its a 10 min walk to D or 4 train, $8 cab ride into washington heights.
