Not stellar but ok I guess. With your GPA you should be in great shape as long as you don't completely blow the DAT. Make sure you have some shadowing experience, excellent LORs and extracurricular activities and you should be good to go. What's your major? VCU's dental school is my top choice but at this point I just want to get in

The fact that most medical schools are starting patient contact as early as the first year is something dental schools may want to look into. The didactic learning is essential but I think more hands on experience can do nothing but help.

Some of the best advice i ever got was from my cousin who is now a doctor and graduated from Sophie Davis. It was so simple, but it struck me......"it's not a race."
If you believe that taking that year off can improve your GPA, get you some research hours under your belt, and maybe some more volunteer hours then do it.

W.e you do though, like someone else said, APPLY EARLY!

When did your cousin graduate from Sophie? I might know him

Most of the people I knew in undergrad was in Sophie. Great program. Very tough to get in.

Sophie Davis...hmmmm

Curious, did you go to City? 'Cause if you did, I think I may know you (ok, not personally, but have "heard" about you)...

When I read your OP in your "ask an associate working in...", I said to myself, "hmm this guy sounds so familiar, like so-and-so from Grove's BME program"...

Now y'all talkin' about Sophie and I'm sitting here like, Hank has to be that guy from BME...

:nerd:

EDIT:

Nvrmind Hank, dude I am thinking about is actually in Med School right now at an Ivy, so it obviously cannot be you...

Not applying anytime soon, but that's the goal. I have to fix my gpa by finishing up my bachelor's and doing doing some post grad work as well :smh:.

In the meantime, in between time I'm doing some individual study and prep for the DAT

I went through the same process bro. I am finishing up a post bac/graduate program in a few weeks. Material was complex to say the least but I think it will help me when I get to Dental school. I am applying next cycle hopefully I can get into my state school (VCU) but its very competitive.

To those who got into med school, Congrats!

I just wanted to vent my excitement and just say  I got into the Pharmacy School of my preference today. School starts next week. I'm so excited

this is going to sound absolutely insane to the point I'm embarrassed to ask, but maybe someone here can shed some light...

hypothetically, if i have a 3.8 science GPA as a biology major, but a 3.0 overall GPA, do I have any hope of getting in to any DO school here after grade replacements? I'm at the got my **** together stage of my life after messing up in school for years. My gpa over the last 2 semesters has been a 3.85, and I want to be a doc. But even if I keep up this new rate in my upper level bio courses and organic chem/biochem, my record from my previous school is so abysmal that I'm worried that because of the past, I have zero control over my own future.

any hope for me to get into even the lowest standard DO school in the future brahs, or am i doomed?

Anything is possible man, when do you plan on taking the MCATs? That is a decent science GPA. Improvement is better than starting off great and doing bad. Admissions take more things into consideration than strictly GPA and MCAT. Look up some schools or go on premed forums and see what GPA and MCAT scores people were getting accepted with in the lower ranking med schools and gauge from there.

Congrats on getting your stuff together though, STEM majors unite :smokin

Thank you man

I'm like a bugging out a little extra because I couldnt call offices today for info directly from them, and I'm sure many won't open back up until after the new year

DO schools replace your grade if you retake a course. MD schools average them. You should be fine with a good mcat for a DO school.

Sup guys,

Anyone apply to dental school this cycle? Interviews, acceptances or rejections?

Interesting perspective - thanks for posting.

Yeah - perhaps the unhealthiness I saw in pre-med students was a result of an overall culture of stress than the pre-med field. That said, I thought the lack of healthiness was especially prevalent and more glaring in pre-med students.

I guess I wasn't thinking about that trade-off. Still, my counterpoint to that is that a lesser number of surgeries practiced well-rested is equivalent to a larger amount of surgeries on ****** sleep.
Have a friend who is doing his residency in NY.

We went to Vegas last summer, this is where I found out he did a lot of coke. I'm talking the most coke I've ever seen someone do since college (I'm 30 now.)

We talked a lot about our careers and ultimately what motivated him was the money and prestige. I can't knock the guy because he is naturally a very smart person and there is nothing wrong with being motivated by wealth and notoriety. I was just a bit surprised that someone who is responsible for providing health care to people severely jeopardizes his own.

(Not saying all doctors are coke heads.)

I lost my previous Account (Tizzle)

I'm on here now if any premed kids have any further questions, feel free to pm me or ask
