I decided to cook steak for the first time in my life tonight for dinner. I don't know how to cook so this should be interesting and I'm cooking steak because well I love steak. I am going to cook it well done because I enjoy my steak well done. Do you have any tips on how I should cook/prepare a well done steak?

Post your favorite recipes for steaks, how you like to cook your steak and what type of steak you like best.

Post pictures of the steak you cooked or ate at a restaurant. Also say what steakhouse you ate at or recommend. I am trying to hit up every steakhouse in the tri-state area

My favorite steak is rib eye but ny strip steak is second.

The juice that runs out of the steak isn't blood. It's mostly water and myoglobin.

I buy my steaks from Costco and keep it simple with the seasoning. Just salt, pepper, and maybe some onion powder. I usually buy huge steaks so it takes like 10-15 minutes for me to cook on each side on an electric grill.

Anyone ever cook their steak in a pan with butter like restaurants do?

some salt and pepper is all you need for seasoning. I like it medium rare

What time should I come over OP??

I live eating steak but I've always been to scared to cook it. Like what temp, which pan, oil or butter!?!?

its not like ground beef where u have to cook it throughout.
If theres germs on it it's only on the outside.

thats how a rare steak and steak tartare is possible.

A good gauge of doneness is your fist.
ball it very loosely and touch the spot right btwn your thumb n index.
thats rare
little tighter fist is medium
tight fist is well done

I use an iron skillet. High temp then 2 min on each side.
trial and error is good to perfect your preference but the good thing is u can always eat it lol.

I use oil and some times put olive oil after.

never cut a steak right after cooking. Let it sit for about 2 min so the juices can flow inside evenly

also...if u in the military or no sumone the comissary always has the best and cheapest cuts. Sams has a two pack thats comparible to a 30$ steak at a fine restaurant for 25 too :smokin

i like using different dry rubs, just to see how things turn out

always butter, never oil. anything past medium rare, and you're a savage.

I don't wanna start a new topic. What's the best way to cook pork tenderloin? I have an oven, stove and George foreman. As far as seasoning goes I have salt, pepper, garlic,Montreal steak

This site has some great tips and recipes for steaks and every other kind of meat.  I thought I was doin' it right, but Meathead put me onto all types of meat science and proper ways to cook.

One tip I have is grab a Thermapen.  Pricey but they're invaluable in determining exactly when your meat is thoroughly cooked.

if its seasoned and/or marinated right, ill go med-med rare. a good sear is a must though. if its just a plain ol steak, like an after gym meal, i just throw it in the george foreman

i always experiment with marinades and rubs, but always eat my steak with mashed potatoes or sweet potatoe fries

I only cook NY Strips since I like their cuts.

PREP:

Preheat oven to 500
I preheat a cast iron gril to HIGH
Leave steak out for 10-15 so it gets close to room temp, then salt & pepper

Dab some grape oil on cast-iron pan
Put the steak on the grill for 2 min
flip for another 2 min
flip for 1 min
flip for 1 min
sear both sides for 45 seconds each

Put a slab of butter on top and throw cast-iron pan in oven for 3-5 min

Perfect medium-rare steak :D

Porterhouse or Rib-eye

Salt, Pepper, Olive Oil

5 min each side on HIGH HEAT

Butter on the last flip (that spoon slather technique)

Depending on the thickness, I'll end it in the oven for about 5 min.
