So Unemployment Benefits Are Ending Next Week?

some people take advantage of unemployment and instead of looking for a job they milk it...i was guilty of this before  this can be good and bad for people

Not really, and there's a cut off with unemployment, don't think there's one for welfare.

After some research that's what they're doing, cutting off those extra weeks down to 26 max.

People where on unemployment for 99 weeks!?!?

ive seen people on it for years. working temp work and still collecting. I need to read up more on unemployment because the whole thing doesn't make sense to me.

All that's missing is another round of tax cuts for the "job creators" and some more deregulation. Mission accomplished.

That's because the economy is in dumps, and profits are at a all time high though. Also people on unemployment use their money in the economy nobody is 'living the high life' on unemployment. It's really a drop in the bucket compared to corporate welfare, but it's always easier to kick people when their down.

I've known more than 1 person collect for 2 years. Maybe I'm just a lil salty, ppl def milk it.

I was laid off in '08 during the crash, it took me almost 2 years to find a job. Now, you can find a 'job' but you'll still be on public assistance because they don't pay you enough and you qualify for it. That's more disgusting than some person that lost their job for no fault of their own.

Agreed. You don't see them as much but back in '07-09 you would often see specials following individuals or families around who were living literally off of nothing but unemployment and if they were fortunate, their savings. Yes, any social program that can be abused, will be abused by some. I remember when I was unemployed for two years. It was a stressful and demoralizing time, I definitely was not "caking" or just chillin.

not even gonna lie, i collected after i was wrongfully fired (aren't we all when were fired) and i took advantage of that joint.

getting 450 every sunday around 11pm was gold

felt like a poor athlete, i'd wake up go to the gym, play ball, smoke bud at night and repeat

i have a job now though :D

I dnt think they are cutting off unemployment, they are cutting the EUC, the process after you exhaust your original term of unemployment...EUC is about 10 more weeks of payments after the initial 26 weeks.

My unemployment just ran out this week and I can definitely say I been milking. I haven't even been thinking about getting a job and my days are a lot like homie above, give or take a few things. I was scheduled to have my EUC start next week...it will but I won't get the full 10 weeks, only 2 or 3 because it stops December 28

Agreed, people are gonna 'milk it' no doubt, but to throw the baby out with the bathwater I just don't understand. However, this is just a negotiation tactic nothing more, so glad to I'm not in that situation anymore especially around this time a year. Until you walk in those shoe you just don't know.

For the dudes saying they milked it, were you living with your parents at the time? Did you have a little side hustle to make up? Here in Florida max unemployment is $275 a week, after rent, light and food I was pretty much tapped out.

[thread="577508"]Had a homie who lived this life, graduated from Columbia, but lived like like a savage on that unemployment. Some times I'd get off of work and head over to his crib, we'd end up on the porch chiefin until around 11...then i had to head home to get ready for work the next day. He'd do the same thing everyday, gym, ball, and chill, while occasionally making visits to the unemployment office.  [/thread]

it was def fun while it lasted but i don't condone that at all

also i think they decreased the maximum allowed benefit now in NYC

I was on it around 08-09'

The small minority of those abusing the system isn't representative of everyone using it however. It disgust me that politicians feel this need to cut off any abuse by those barely hanging on by a string but give no ***** about those who are causing the unemployment/welfare issues.

Billion dollar comapnies cutting employee cost just so they can make even more profit.

im on unemployment,

i have been working since i've been 17, im 27 now.

all my jobs i have had for a year or longer.

i have had 4 jobs, the longest ive gone without a job was 2 months.

i have to look for work and put down all the places i've looked and applied.

i have busted my *** all my life, mommy and daddy never bought me a car or ever paid my rent.

i have been homeless, im not a bum like many people think whenever they hear "UNEMPLOYMENT"

i work on call now making 25/hr sometimes i make  enough to where i dont qualify for insurance for those 2 weeks.

i couldn't imagine relying on this to survive, it can be cut off at any time not to mention how impossible it is to ever contact a representative.

if i get cut off i wont be screwed since my girl makes bank but i would have to make some sacrifices.

Hold up, you make 25hr and still get unemployment?

He's on call. He never said how many hours he works. He could be doing 2hrs a week....

I was unemployed for a year. Got an extension and one point during that time and then it ran out the week I found a job. I'm the sole source of income and I have a family I support. Without that (lil bit) of money coming in, I don't know how we would have made it. With that said, I rather have 99 people milk the system, as long as that 1 who really needs it gets it.
