The success of Yeezys were probably 80% Kanye 19% the internet + hypebeasts and 1% Nike. Nike did literally nothing in terms of promotions or anything except drop the red Octobers and the hype Kanye + internet built took over from there

My whole thing is that one of kanye's driving arguments as to why he left Nike was the fact that Nike were making them limited and he wanted people to have pairs. He now goes to Adidas and they're going to make them limited. Like what? You just left the top manufacturer in athletic footwear who specializes in creating appeal for its secondary competition in Adidas? What for, royalties? Ha! What royalties are you getting if the shoes aren't selling. Kanye coulda waited another year and one more yeezy model to cause chaos and then call Nike's bluff like KD and they would've gave in. Instead he goes to Adidas as if the appeal of the Yeezy was all him and not the fact that they were Nike's. C'mon, he knows he F'd up, he just wanted his money upfront but give it about 2-3 years he'll come be trying to do another collab with Nike. Quote me on this.

truth right here, remove the swoosh and ye's name, keep nike on the sole and make them gr, I for sure would have had an very very very yes very easy time copping and you wouldn't have so many idiot resellers on niketalk hyping the shoe just to profit and justify demand and supply so much. the yeezy 2 more than the yeezy 1 brought out the true colors of some aholes here...hopefully the yeezy 3 will better done in all ways....

Adidas is going to end up giving him some stupid *** shoe with wings on it. Should have stayed with Nike.

Bull. You could say that about every shoe with a jumpman and Nike check on it. Take the check off some black/red 1's any you have a pair of Pony's but add the check and you have the most iconic sneaker of all time. The fact that kanye's sneaker was a Nike sneaker gave it all the validation in the world. People went crazy because they were limited. They were limited because Nike knew that kanye had a good influence an urban culture and urban culture is where at least 70% of their revenue comes from. Kanye's "brand" was all predicated off the yeezy and it's availability. They gave him a facade that his shoes were so cool that you had to be special to get them. Now you have all these people trying to emulate his style....blahhhhhhhh. I could talk about this forever but when I initially got my solars I thought it was a cool shoe but knew off the bat that it wasn't aesthetically meant to stand the test of time. The shoes are literally a product of hype built by Nike. Adidas trying to ride the wave isn't the same because Adidas doesn't have a strong hold on urban culture right now. They don't have a "Michael Jordan" type that makes their sneakers and their brand approved in any and every neighborhood.

And another thing. 'Ye rocked yeezy 1's a year before they released. 'Ye rocked yeezy 2's a year before they released. Are these Adidas yeezy's really dropping in November or this year even? Kanye was just seen about a week ago rocking RO's like he doesn't have a shoe in production for Adidas. Say what you want about Nike but they laced him and Don C and whoever else with prototypes months in advance....or maybe that was Nike working that hype......

Whole reason he went with Adidas is for creative freedom, and you can see that it's evident for all the designers they sign. Y-3, Rick Owens, Raf Simons, and then there's Jeremy Scott. Out of all those designers, how many of them actually have wings on their shoes?

I'll probably agree and disagree to a point

Nike, of the many things, is known for making stars out of their sponsorship and branding, product, and of course in knights words entertainment with some "promotional value", to a certain extent.

ye was a known but rising producer turned rapper since his college dropout days that displayed his yeezy 1 style. since his onscreen official pairing with j**** jay z Both of them brought the yeezy II to an all time hyped high imo instead of Nike, and Nike only helped their own company's " promotional value" of THEIR Yeezy product (not kanyes) by offering these shoes for free to mostly guess who, Entertainers like j**** and rappers/singers and like what 7 athletes out of 100s of celebs.

By producing small amounts of these shoes just like the yeezy 1 they are only helping their own company's image with "exclusivity", and the yeezy II represents a more artistic and stylish quality of footwear which flowed with kanye, a rapper/producer, not an athlete. kanye was known for rocking 4s, 6s, 8s (shoes that were mostly GR), guess what happened with the general availability and demand of those AIR JORDAN models? demand was increased dramatically thanks to ye and hype beasts emulated his style on point!

Regardless even if Jordan is playing or not his shoes sell, and admit back in the day was there so much hype and demand for Jordans like it is now? but when some "celebrity" or "artist" backs them up do you really think Nike by itself is so popular now? Who were they trying to woo to market and sell Air Jordans? Remember when Jordan was close to signing with converse OR Adidas but reluctantly went with Nike? Adidas was his only preferred choice! Now that kanye is going Adidas cause he was dissed, is Nike really gonna give a uff? Nike used ye's hype and kept their yeezys to an "exclusive minimum" probably just to test the waters or market for their own popularity benefit. Same time they didn't pay much and make as much as ye demanded so they saved dough.

Lets say they strip kanyes name, keep the swoosh, gr them in massive amounts and retro re release yeezys II as Nike Air Horus, do you believe they will sell out now so easily? I don't think so, and if they do guess what Nike can thank Kanye as the former ambassador for the yeezy II, because every kid and man will associate yeezys with kanye only more so than Nike itself. Remember when kanye was with the Vuitton joints? expensive but available if you could get it. I will say sneaker buying is very subjective but for people who like buying based on hype and exclusiveness of something are attributing it to an influence rather than their own real satisfaction.

When Mark Parker stated Nike's progress is based on good design (innovation) and he didnt see why the yeezy line was liked by so many people, He didn't understand what hype was, what urban hip "hop" steez on the streets was. Thats what kanye was, and Jordan was not that. Jordan stayed and cooked well, kanye said uff it and went Adidas cause Adidas want to replicate Nike's former artist collaborations which brought them marginal success, however more important than the profit was the entertaining "promotional value" aka exposure aka popularity aka exclusivity aka marketing/advertising aka name brand. Nike (probably besides Parker) for sure knows damn well the game they played so well with kanye and they used it to their advantage, NOT kanyes, NOT consumers, NOT athletes, NOT celebrities, Only and only Nike's. If Adidas is gonna bank hard on kanyes name and sell out as many yeeziis as they make then its a double win for them in terms of profits and you guessed it, "promotional value"

When this shoe finally makes an appearance, I think it's pretty clear as to what is going to happen. Nike loyalists will be out to discredit both Kanye and his shoe for Adidas, en masse. It's not a good look for those who seem to base all of their sartorial decisions upon some supposed loyalty, as if Nike has a hidden camera inside of your sneaker closet, then will reward you with a lifetime supply of your favorite Nike shoe, due to your undying support.

It's pretty pathetic, actually.

You forgot to mention the Kanye Stans who will praise the shoe NO MATTER what it looks like, as if Kanye has a hidden camera inside of your sneaker closet, then will reward you with a lifetime supply of praise, due to your undying support.

When it comes to looks, it is hard to determine whether or not opinions pro are genuine or not.

Subjectivity wields its power here, protecting those of independent thought.

However, those of us who are not moved by those opinions pro or con, looking through a clear eye without bias, tend to be ahead of trends that are soon followed by those with low self esteem.

I guess the real question here is, which one are you?

You neglected to mention why Nike has loyalist, because there shoe designs and endorsements over the past 30 years have been second to none. What is pathetic is you wanting to discredit the perception of brand loyalty as some type of sheepish mentality when kanye himself grew up in 80's and 90's Chicago. I wonder who he looked up to and what shoes that guy wore....

There's a reason why Adidas was his second option

Evolution is necessary, or you die.

People grow up with certain beliefs, not knowing any better because they are being told what is right, they then remain children for the rest of their lives. But once independent thought, and then exposure to a broader intellect occurs, options appear, therefore giving life and growth to those who crave freedom, being allowed the ultimate in expression, being able to break away from the status quo.

Giving your loyalty to anything that isn't loyal to your own freedoms, necessitates your own enslavement.

If you allow it, then you are stupid enough and then deserving enough to endure it.

Good luck and enjoy.
