The Combat Jack Show Thread

Joe seemed like he wanted to talk about Drake stealing from everyone and being unoriginal but wouldn't go there. Rory was suckin drake off the entire time. Marissa sat there quiet, that was nice.

Smh this ep remind me of the Tory Lanez vs Bryson episode .. just boring. Nobody wants to hear you talk about ONE thing for a hour

Basically they were both afraid to say Drake has has help through his whole damn career, with lyrics and songs. The lack of strong lyricism and "hit single" probably has to due with ghostwriters get exposed left and right.

When rory said he cant wait for trap to die...i shouted amen.

That **** has run its course
i feel like trap died with bankroll . i just don't see us getting another one like him

Fresh had it man :smh:. Innovative, original, charismatic. He had it all. Was really a blow. Listening to him right now actually.

YFN Lucci got next though. I keep telling y'all ***** this .

^ i just can't get into this dude lucci . i feel like fresh was the bridge between the gap for the older guys and younger guys doing trap music . anything after fresh doesn't feel the same to me . just my opinion

ar-ab on tax was pretty good . end got serious . . .

I was annoyed by Rory. Hotline Bling was the hottest song the past couple of years? Has he heard of Fetty Wap? Then they didn't even mention how Hotline Bling was DRAM's ****.

Yeah, my only issue is that if you're going to do the collab **** like Kanye, you shouldn't talk about how dope a rapper you are. Because I put you in the Salt N Pepa, Will Smith, Biz and Puff category. You're an entertainer.

I didn't get the Drake and Jay-Z comparisons. Drake is more in the LL and Mase lane. Hell, album Fab is more Drake. Using a flow isn't the same as someone giving you lines or teaching you how you should rap over a beat. Nobody would say Biggie was stealing Bone's flow. And I find it hard to take someone serious who is talking about how a album was received when he was 6.

It was ok to me

Tax :smh:

I hate females who get in street conversations, like they have some first hand knowledge. Because you messed with a dude who hustled doesn't mean you know what it's like.

Sofi is really annoying. And the way she talks in the background and always has her little tidbit to say about everything. And I really hate her voice.

You're a nice guy. It's because you're real. You don't know him. Stop talking. We know you're there you don't have to add something to every single conversation.

Ab is a terrible story teller. He was explaining situations, and I was wondering did I miss something. Major F****s...shot...Dean...punch...Spade-O...huh Combat would have interrupted and asked some clarifying questions or explained things in more detail for the listener.

all of this  i'm listening right now and the women really have nothing to offer to this conversation.

Yeah, Joe started to talk about Hotline Bling being stolen and then Rory had a *** fit. I expected the podcast to be much better but Joe was holding back. It was weak. I don't **** with Drake or Jay Z but I hate that comparison. The Vol. 1 and If You're Reading This comparison was awful. Episode was wack as ****, disappointed. I'm done with that podcast.

I understood what AB was saying in the story. Little confusing, but it made sense. Dudes been shot a lot. He blinks when he talks...so sometimes, the thoughts aren't always as coherent.

But that was a good episode with AR-AB. Sounded like he was crying when talking about how he felt horrible for influencing his lil mans to the street life right.

And Sophi's commentary was about to ruin this podcast for me. "Yeah, Yeah", "Right", "Laughing historically, and saying "Exactly" after everything was said. She was cringeworthy.

The way that convo was going left though when AR-AB started talking to the women co host like that. Tax from a year ago would've entertained that convo. Tax now, cut it off .

find it funny tax had ar ab on right before he has to go to philly

be safe tho

and there's no clarifying with ab, he speaks horribly and tax and the rats were all talking over him

he wasn't bad on brilliant idiots tho

Ab is mad misogynistic  You just talked about shooting someone, and you're judgemental calling women ****** and fast. Then he said it drawn out, they're whoooooores

and then he compared them to the Kay Slay chicks to their face

I was more bored with this episode than I was with the Drake one. If you've seen one Ab interview you've seen them all. He repeats a lot of the same stories. He was giving his resume. Just like how he kept going back to Cassidy. You sleeping on his couch and not taking a shower makes you look bad.

And why is it that every thug talks about how smart they really are. I was taking college courses in middle school  I've never heard one say I'm not good at school. It's always I was bored.

Yea i'm not big on sophi either, the only two chicks who have been added to the show were of course BKtidalwave & the chick Tati. Both of them blended well with tax and weren't over bearing.

The Jay-z comparison made no sense at all!! Drake is not even close even with other people lyrics hes not touching
what Jay has done. I remember the 7 summers of constant hits, nobody was messing with Jay at all. I feel like anyone
right now could potentially make a "hot" record and take the spot for a few months.

I do think Hotline Bling is hotter than most of if not all of Fetty's hits combined with the exception of maybe "Come my Way".
His lyrics (Fetty's) are terrible plus he has fake dreads, that should never fly in hip-hop. Your right with the flow thing, I
remember when notorious thugs dropped everybody was saying "Damn Biggie killed the flow better than them".

"How many of Big's lines going to come out your fat lips"

That joe recent podcast was the worst I ever heard, they lost me as a listerner for good.

Was BK the prison guard or the other one?

I remember two being cool.

I wasn't sure what Rory meant by hot at all. Because Fetty's was definitely more of a smash as far as radio and sales. And I hope he doesn't think Hotline Bling was the best.

I like Rory's taste in R&B, he constantly has the better selections out of the three, but his rap thoughts are questionable.

I dont think the jayz comparison was sonically or stylistically but moreso just their place in the landscape. For the majority of his career, Jay-Z was considered "the guy" by a large majority.

Its all relative. In this era, its considered Drake.

He was definitely making comparisons to Jay in terms of being the guy. Speak how you want of his lyrical ability, but for the past 6 or 7 years he's been the spearhead of this generation with Kendrick and Cole following close behind.

I'm on vacation so I'm not even checking for podcasts atm. Any of them worth listening to on my gym runs besides NORE?

The Drake/Jay comparison is just off. It's like when people tried to compare Steph to Jordan.

Drake and Jay took 2 totally different paths and 2 totally different artist. Drake had commercials before his first album even came out. I remember at the 09 BET Awards everybody was crowning him as this great artist and he was making dope music, especially back then but damn it was overboard. He was pretty much pushed out there and backed by industry people. Jay aint even get mainstream love til his 3rd album. So yeah Drake is the most rapper popular right now but he's basically a pop artist. Jay was never confused for a pop artist. It just sounds like a lazy comparison.

Again yall are adding in all these variables that dont matter. The comparison is STRICTLY based on both guys being considered "the guy" in their respective eras. Bottom line. Not their music, not their paths, none of that.

Jay was never the GUY. Maybe as far as having a label and respect.

A lot of artist sold more than he did and had bigger hits, Em, Nelly, Ja, DMX...

Jay just had consistency and respect .

The comparison was very off
