The Combat Jack Show Thread

Didn't know True Life was ***** with Future all the way back then , and the Dungeon Family in the early 00's. Always wondered what the connection was. Mad random.

Never realized Tru was plugged in like that. Just remember him from the antics on the DVDs. Don't think I ever heard the ***** rap....but Nas, Hov, Jeezy, Ross and the Dungeon family all rocked with him. Weird .

Crazy at Tru Life trying to get OG Juan and Hov to sign Future when he was "meathead".

Interesting that son said all music under Universal would be on all streaming. No more exclusives.
It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Lucian Grainge, by all accounts, is the utmost powerful authority in the entire music business. At the absolute top of the pecking order. He's the one that said "No more exclusives" after the Frank Ocean ****.

Apple Music is basically Jimmy Iovine's baby. So that's two incredibly powerful people up against each other.
Yep. Lucian gotta be pissed because Jimmy didn't let Frank plans leak out at all. Amazed Def Jam got blindsided like this

I mean they let dude buy back throwaway songs just to put out Blonde...so in reality Endless was the throwaway

this is Mj/Prince level label finessing

I'd only care to listen to Jay on Tax. Nore's just o.d. at this point imo, and I'm cool on the Elliot Wilson slurp fest. I don't rock with Tax too heavy anymore, but dude will at least show an OG some respect and let them talk. Plus he's probably grown up on every Hov verse there is, so he can give you the feel of how the music really hit the streets from a Brooklyn cat perspective.
Jay did Juan like 6 years back but Tax is the only person I can see him doing one with if it's random

If it's album promo then I can see multiple (2 or 3)

Joe was on to something on his podcast from months back when he said Apple Music was basically going to become a label and try to take over the industry.

No matter what pod Jay does it would be OD slurp fest.

Elliot going to giggle at everything he say. Tax going to say you raised me and your my father 20 times. NORE and them will be blowing noise makers every 20 secs.

When/how did this happen?

I know they had a 2 week exclusive on Coloring Book. But it wound up on all the other services after that.

I could be mis-remembering but I believe Jason Geter spoke on it when he was on the Brilliant Idiots

About how even without a label you still need "major people" behind you...he said Chance has major people behind him...I don't remember if he specifically expounded on the Apple deal

Yeah he basically used a mixtape to get out of his deal.

It's such a simple idea that I'm surprised more artists with label issues haven't thought of it but at the same time such finesse. :pimp:

I remember us having that convo in another thread. That to me is different than being "signed" to Apple Music.

Chance is signed to himself. Apple is just a partner in some capacity. Cutting him a nice check for that exclusive.

But he's still on Spotify etc.

I don't see streaming services taking over like that. Being "labels" so to speak. Apple has their hands full competing with Spotify and Pandora now that Pandora will do on demand.

What I see is artists being "labels". Empowering themselves.

Which is a long time coming.

Honestly I'm surprised Soundcloud Go hasn't taken off as much as the other services considering you get the discography of new artists along with the classic discographies

That marketplace is so cluttered. That's why Apple is having a hard time getting traction. Tidal out there. Google play. etc etc.

The heritage "brands" (Spotify, Pandora etc.) are hard to tackle. And they still do pretty well on their own when it comes to exclusives, marketing, events etc.

Yeah, the issue is Apple got in the game too late. Now that Google is in they can't just throw money around, because they can outspend everyone else. They can cut in to Spotify and that's what everyone is trying to do. Google just seems content on trying to get some of the Android users.

Apple is trying to do the same thing with Apple TV, but Netflix and Amazon are too big and too far ahead. They're playing catch up.

Tidal gives you a lot for your money if you're in to "urban" music, like the Rick Ross concert.

Apple was THE retailer for music for so long via iTunes, the last thing they wanted to do was become a streaming service.

I think Joe's podcast would be much better with just him, MAL and Ice. They just flow much better. They don't mind going against Joe and have their points. I also want to hear more music talk from Joe. He's been in the game for a long time and knows his music. Should talk about it more.

As for the streaming and labels, it's real interesting to see where it's headed. I've seen a lot of rappers and singers say they haven't gotten paid from them either and this is definitely where it's headed.

Joe talking about Frank was cringe worthy. He's really not smart as he think he is. The whole conversation about his sexuality was just...awful. And they didn't even have the lyrics or context correct. It was just bad.

I do appreciate Ice though. He adds a lot to the podcast.

I never understood Apple.

They wanted to sell albums and turned a blind eye to streaming until the last minute. They had the perfect vehicle, but then they didn't offer expandable phones and were selling them in only 16, 32 and 64. It was backwards.

They couldn't see the future was streaming and cloud storage?

Since Tim Cook Apple has been playing catch up.

I will say NORE is a good friend, because I don't even think Tru himself believed all the praise that was coming out NORE's mouth.

NORE: we always ask this question, but who was your favorite CEO.

Jay: Me

NORE: ohhhhh Hov just stunted on us. Let's make some noise for Jay just stunting on us.

Looks like the Dame and Drink Champs ep is being recorded this wknd.

And I dare y'all to take a shot every time Ross say, We all bosses.
LOL that's definitely a scenario that would play out. I find it hilarious when NORE inserts a low-key flex and then asks the Drink Champs fam to make some noise for him. EFN gotta think this dude is out his mind sometimes.

Unrelated but Hot Take Alert: As much as I dig The Combat Jack Show, I enjoyed listening to the podcast more when Dallas and Pete were on the show. Even if it was just Combat and Pete, there was an element that brought out more "unique" stories from guests. The discussions were more unfiltered. This isn't to say that I no longer dig the show, but before I used to go in expecting a more "fun" podcast, now with Combat and A-King it's more of a formal show. There's nothing wrong with that though cause the culture needs a more serious podcast (some would say its RapRadar but I'm not a fan of Elliot or B Dot).

I didnt even think of combat but a OG combat jack with Jay interview might be the happy medium most people would enjoy.

The Star and Tax podcast was funny. "If I get jumped in the club I'm shooting my date first cause she might had set me up"

Dame's another one I'd be excited to hear on Drink Champs. Unlike other guests that kick it with Nore, Dame will tell homie to be quiet and let him finish what he's saying. Ready for that.

Jay might not like Combat. A lot of Combat's old clients seem to feel a type of way about him. And there's a reason he stopped being Rocafella's lawyer when they became successful.

Clark Kent on Rap Radar should be good.

"Wait hold on, did I just get checked by Dame Dash? This is monumental. Give it up for me getting checked by Dame Dash on my own show. That's how I know you a foul Harlem *****. I'm a foul ***** too, I broke up with ******* and took the purse back. Hold on, you hear that train? That's the Elliot Wilson train. You know Elliot Wilson? Can we get Dame Dash on record...on this podcast..saying **** Elliot Wilson? Cmon Dame, do it for me. You put me in your movie. Can we get you on record saying **** Elliot Wilson? No? Ok how about you just say 'Elliot Wilson' and we'll photoshop the '****' into it. Can you photoshop sound? Someone tell me, I'm dyslexic"

That's EXACTLY how that **** would go down. Dead at can you photoshop sound. [emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji]
