I can't be the only one who just reported Meth to see what happened right?

Reported

On mobile I get the reputation and report buttons confused so I may have accidentally through that. Other than that, no.

*reported for lying.

The report and rep buttons are on opposite sides and when you report you have to select a reason.

At the end of the day, all you have to do is click an 'x' in the top corner, or close your macbook screen. I don't think it should ever get that serious. If it ever is that serious, you should have never put yourself in that vulnerable of a postion to begin with.
Exactly how serious is reporting somebody actually? I've seen the word over a dozen times now

What vulnerable position am I putting myself in to when I'm on NT reading posts in threads? What if I don't want to close the window? Especially when I come across wild hateful posts?

Seems like your solution is to ignore and walk away from things instead of addressing them.
Never. Im too old to tattatell over nonsense. anyone that press that red flag button is overly sensitive and relies on someone to back them up, because the couldn't do the job right the first time.
Do what job right the first time? This is illogical. W/e you're trying to compare this to is just not making sense.

I can't ban ppl so I'm not seeing how I'm relying on someone to back me up.
Seriously think about it. U are telling on the internet, that **** sound so corny. Keep scrolling nothing really hurts that bad. Racist, sexist and other offensive **** can be ignored. Internet ain't eem that serious. Probably the same people who report people Facebook pics and ig pics but take the time out to look at em
Why can't you accept ppl don't agree with you? You just said it's not that serious. Instead of making bs comparisons. I don't spend enough time on FB or IG to report anyone on there.

Meth just explained the reasoning pretty well.

Why does this bother you so much?

Nah, I thought about reporting the RunningFishy, racist JD, and LucasOFWG losers for various reasons, but they all took care of themselves one by one.

If we'd taken that attitude and just pretended that all the racist hate speech, juvenile insults, and fraud plaguing sneaker messages boards in the late 90's didn't bother us, NikeTalk wouldn't exist.  The reason you  have  a community like this one is because a group of people decided to stand up and do something about it.  Now, you can't push a button to help us remove it because what?  Some millionaire in his 40's who'd have his butler call the cops on you in a second if you so much as smudged the side mirror on his Bentley told you it's uncool?

This isn't elementary school.  Some of you need to get over this "teachers n' tattles" mentality.

And how do you think that happened?  Divine intervention?

Somebody with a backbone reported them.

what did runningfishy do? i remember seeing him around in the kobe is overrated thread but forgot which side he was on

I want to know what the mods think about people who abuse the report button though and use it to settle scores and when it isn't necessary.

I could see the point of someone reporting racist stuff, or spam or something of that nature. But you have members who say slick stuff and try to provoke other members but as soon as someone says something to them they report them.

I got suspended a few years ago for a post i made for partial profanity. Kinda silly id say but what was lame about it is that I got suspended a few months after the post. I didn't say nothing bad to anyone, all I put was f (and a few *** symbols) having to wait in line for these Jordan's. that was harmful to no one, I asked why I got suspended and was told someone reported me. I'm sorry but whoever reported me on that was doing it with ulterior motives, not to better niketalk.

I can't speak on them since I don't know what goes on in their brains but I would hope the mods would have enough common sense to know when someone abuses the report button. Alot of elementary school teachers see though the tattle tales behavior after a while and take it with a grain of salt unless he's telling on something serious because they see his ulterior motive for telling.

if the person has backbone it should be announced. Secretly reporting someone doesn't require any backbone

Of course some people try to abuse the feature and most of those users have long since been banned.  (Surprise:  people who tend to become obsessive about petty tiffs etc. don't have the self control needed to follow our forum rules themselves.)

That said: this isn't the NBA where you just issue a half-hearted apology if you miss a call.  If we missed something, and it's a clear violation, we can and will record the violation and issue the warning.

Warnings are for the user's benefit.  They include a link to the rules and a reminder of our policies.  They're a courtesy.  People who ignore warnings or post severe violations are suspended or banned as the situation warrants.  If you'd already racked up a ton of warnings and an older post put you over the threshold, yeah, that's a worst case scenario and it's unfortunate from your perspective - but nobody forced you to violate the rules 10 times.  You can blame somebody else, whom you have no control over, but that accomplishes nothing.  You could also just man up and accept responsibility for your own actions, over which you have complete control, and it's entirely within your power to never receive another warning here - let alone another suspension.

It's not that difficult.

Apparently it does, because some people are obviously too afraid about what others might think to even take the risk.

Their lives are caged in by other people's expectations.

I got no problem with the annoymomous reporting when what's being reported is actually warranted. Personal attack on someone, racist stuff etc.

But if I were to say something slick about alp for no reason and he says something back to me and I report him, something like that should be made public.

In alot of cases, the person who abuses the report button is worse then the person who did something (most of the time petty) to get reported.

The report button shouldn't be used as a tool to settle scores.
