OFFICIAL 2014 MIAMI DOLPHINS SEASON THREAD (8-8) : MAYBE NEXT YEAR SMH

I definitely see where you guys are coming from, but I'm not so ready to admit that this project was a failure and undergo another overhaul of the coaching staff. I think that we've taken tremendous strides as an organization and I'm not for pulling the plug when the playoffs are still very much in the picture.

This Year: Bills, Chiefs, Lions, Packers, Broncos.

Last Year: Bills (Twice), Jets, Panthers, Bucs, Ravens

I have never shown an over reaction in the time I've talked sports, I feel I'm very level headed and logical when it comes to my stands. I back that up with on field play combined with stats that matter. The facts of the matter is Philbin and Coyle can't get out of their own way to save this season. From clock management + timeouts, to the CONSTANT prevent defense, going away from the pressure and blitz scheme that was working. Throwing in Daniel Thomas and LaMichael James when CLEARLY, and it's NOT EVEN CLOSE, Lamar Miller is the best back in the AFC East let alone with the Dolphins... 12 attempts, 1 catch... 13 touches... insane.

It's time, Philbin has shown he is not a head coach. Coyle has shown he can't cover the flats or call a full game away from Miami.

Agreed. On another fins board, they posted that Philbin is 3-8 in games decided by 3 points or less. That means he absolutely blows at coaching, because that's when you need your coach the most. He's 0-3 this year on such games, if anyone is counting. Is that progress? No, that's what we call regressing. Lamar Miller deserves TWENTY FIVE TOUCHES A GAME. Coaching staff doesn't get it. QB played his #%^ off yesterday, everyone let him down. I am shocked at that.

Show Philbin the door. Show Coyle the door. Coyle is worse than Pasqualoni

Btw, before we defend Philbin, he has a huge part in the team getting rid of talented players because he didn't like their strong opinions, because he likes the "nice guys" more, i.e. Hartline. Hartline until recently was getting a high number of snaps, to produce nothing. Meanwhile Rishard Matthews has the same amount of TD production in a smaller amount of snaps, yet there are rumblings Philbin isn't the biggest fan of him.

Team has lost guys like Vontae Davis, Marshall, Dansby, and Reggie Bush and kept replacing them with inferior players. Is there any CB on the team sans Grimes that is better than Vontae? Any WR close to Brandon Marshall? Miller is a better back than Bush but we could have them both, right now we have Danielle Thomas as the backup. Philbin didn't like Dansby and Burnett, they were replaced by Wheeler and Ellerbe. All of the "leadership committee" cats.

Combine that with his ineptitude in close games, the timeout problems, lack of ability to attack weak links in opposing teams, and no... there is no question Joe Philbin shall be fired at years end. This team is winning despite his shortcomings.

Tannehill now 11th in QB rating?
10th in TD's
14th in Yards
Tied for 17th in INT's (2 more than Brady and Romo)
8th in Completion %

YPA tho. A true measure of what QB's are all about.

Wonder who we can draft for next season to take over for us. Someone with a high YPA hopefully.

Save your ammunition gents. The real problem with this team is coaching.

Naw, **** that. This lame ************ has ran his mouth for 3 God damn years, when the kid has been working, and learning, and growing every week, which is EXACTLY how a quarterback develops. Every, week. Thru work.

Can't say "good game" once, and be off the hook. **** that ****. His big mouth should have listened 1-2-3 years ago when we all pretty much told him, chill, let the kid learn and grow.

But nope, "I WANT AN RG3, I WANT A FRANCHISE QB, GIMME SOMEONE LIKE RG3, PLAYOFFS YEAR 1........."

Yeah, RG3, that's what we want. :rolleyes

He gon hear it, and he gon hear it every week for the rest of his worthless life.

"But his YPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

RG3 is done. And he's bunzzzz. He'll be out the league most likely in 3-4 years
Kyle Orton is still in the league. RG3 will be back, just some tough luck in Washington.

That's the thing, there is no pocket for RGIII to stand in. If you look at a lot of his major hits are behind center.

Not sure if he has the intangibles to be an elite QB in any other scheme, but they at least have to give the poor guy a shot.

Shut the $^#& up, Lauren Tannehill.

Shout it all you want. My fight is not with the QB, but it was one #$^@^#& game. We have 5 games left, and 4 of them are very winnable. This week, the mission is to light up the Jets. There is no Peyton Manning to work the defense, so I expect Tannehill to hang 28+ on those scrub #$^ Jets. Win this game, keep it rolling. In the meantime, enjoy the week, I know I won't be. We lost.

You're wasting your time. He is so blinded by his love for the QB that he's celebrating his stats, ignoring the fact this team lost the game, is now 10th in the AFC and has a huge uphill battle to make the playoffs.

Yep, once again, absolutely clueless perspective. :smh:

*posts season stats*

"It was one game!!!!"

Spends 3 ******* years blaming the QB for EVERYTHING, demanding Matt ******* Moore to come in and "save" us, and now gets bent whenever someone points out how stupid he is.

Or the fact that others, ok, me, has pointed to NUMEROUS issues this team has had, like Oline, like not running the ball, like 3rd down defense, like Joe Philbin, while you sat and whined about Ryan, who was learning on the job. I've been calling those things out THE ENTIRE TIME, and you just kept crying, "stop defending Ryan, it's never his fault, boo hoo, blah blah"

NOW, you want to just ignore this one game, and "he needs to put up 28 on the Jets". :rolleyes

Again, your feeble brain can't grasp that IT'S NOT ON ONE GOD DAMN PLAYER. Shut up about what he does or doesn't need to do against the Jets. WE need to win, that's all. Don't matter how. 3-0, 57-55, 40-0, I don't care, nor should anyone else. What does it matter if he scores 28, and we give up 31? Or if he scores 27, but they score 3? You're just picking arbitrary numbers out of your dumb *** brain for no reason.

And lastly, you been on this worthless drivel all year, demaning playoffs, etc etc, what the **** for? Why does ONE season, mean more than building of the team/roster? We all see Philbin has ****** us over multiple times, do you not comprehend that come playoff time, on the road, there is no chance? We have like 10 guys done for the year, we have a pathetic coach, we won't have homefield, and yet, here you sit, DEMANDING playoffs.

Our playoffs were over when we gave up not one, not two, but three games due in large part to coaching. GB, Det, and Denver. And why? Can't get stops on 3rd down. Stop running the ball, become one dimensional. Poor awareness of players on defense. Poor clock management. All, coaching issues.

You've spent the last 3 years blaming the QB for everything, calling for Matt Moore.

I've been telling you this entire time, there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay bigger problems, but you can't grasp that. Ryan, Ryan, Ryan, blame Ryan, Hennehill, Franchise QB, we need an RG3 type, Ryan, blah blah blah. That's all you've done. And look what you just posted.

so I expect Tannehill to hang 28+ on those scrub #$^ Jets.

You flat out don't get it. :smh:

We aren't winning anything this year. I knew it before the year started, when I predicted 7-8-9 wins, same as always. But what I do care about, is growing players. Finally, we see we have a QB. A RB. A couple nice receivers. A nice Dline. Some young linebackers that are growing. A decent secondary. So when I look ahead, I see we need a tough RB to get Daniel Thomas out of here. A Big threat in the red zone, be it WR or TE. A first round CB to back up Grimes, and contribute year one like James and Landry have. Another LBer wouldn't hurt. Depth at Safety.

And most importantly, a new coach.

Get those pieces, get that new coach, and THEN, we have a chance to make some noise. Then, we can close games. Then, we can get stops on 3rd and long. Then, we can run the ball more, and better.

Meanwhile, the weak minded say things like "I expect Ryan to put 28 on the Jets, on the road." After he put 36, on the road, and it didn't matter. But hey. Matt Moore.

From year to year things change too much in this league for the ol' "next year we need _____" you've been blasting in our ear drums. Yeah we have a laundry list of needs, so do other teams. You just don't get it. Injuries happen, see Albert and Moreno. The NFL is a win now league but you're huffin and puffin over some build scheme that you expect things to continue on an incline. You're havin your o-face on for Tannehill when he's been inconsistent. I would hope he's better than he was under Mike Sherman.

Playoffs should be the $$% goal every year. To hell with your slow plodding rebuilds. We've been rebuilding for 15 years now.

EXACTLY the point. 15 years. Only every time they start one, they stop 3 years in.

Jimmy, to Wanny, to Saban, to Cam Cameron, to Parcells, to Ireland, to Philbin, etc etc. No one stays thru the process and gets it right.

The roster 2-3 years ago was BARREN. There was NOTHING on the roster. NOTHING.

Now look where we are at. A QB that can play, that is still a year or two from his actual prime. A young running back with no leg injuries (yet). A decent receiving core, that will get an extra piece next year hopefully. A rebuilt Oline, that can still improve with another year for James, an extra guard, etc.
Dline with a ton of youth outside Wake. Young growing LBers, and they can play, as we’ve seen. And some young DB’s, but still need 1-2 more. (next year)

The ROSTER is close. Hell, look at this year alone. Right now, right this second, if Bill Belichick was coaching this team, they beat GB, Detroit, and Denver. The talent on the roster is “good enough” even with the holes we still have. Patch those holes next year, and get an upgrade at Coach (Harbaugh maybe) and guess what, the rebuild is done, you have a ROSTER full of talent, across the board. Offense, Defense, Lines, weapons, Special Teams, QB, everything. Just get some decent health, let the team grow and gel, and let the new coach stop calling timeouts for the other team, and suddenly, 8-9 wins becomes 10-11 wins. That’s how you rebuild, in time. We’ve put the work in the last 3-4 years getting young talent, NOW coach them the right way.

You’re out of your head with this 1 year ****. Built it right, and you’re in the mix every year. Then you make your run(s).

This season you went from let’s play Matt Moore to “Blow it up”. Do you know how stupid you sound with that ****? Like seriously, no shade, do you get how stupid that is? Matt Moore save us, to blow it up. These are YOUR words. You can’t step back and evaluate a roster for ****, all you know is “Play the career backup QB, or blow it all up and start over” The go to playbook for morons. :smh:

The roster is stronger now than in was 3-4 years ago. We’ve identified the holes, everyone sees them, if the new GM can be allowed to plug a couple of them, and a new coach can stop calling timeouts for no apparent reason, suddenly this 6-5 becomes 8-3, or 9-2. And now you have somethin to work off of. Now, you can HOST a playoff game. Now you can try to actually win the division. Now (God willing) you can try to get a first round bye.

I’m not talking about 3-4 years from now, we’ve already had the 3-4 years to build. Started with Ryan and Miller in 2012. Added some weapons in 2013. Rebuilt the Oline in 2014. Now, next year, you finish the job. Improve the CB’s, add a big target, a power back, and more depth on defense at the LBer spot. If you can add 1 extra Olineman, great work. Now your QB is 27, instead of 23. Now you have a chance.

Big picture. Building an NFL roster is about Big picture. Not one ******* player that you don’t even know how to evaluate anyways. YPA!!!! YPA!!!! But his YPA!!!!!!

I am crossing my fingers that this team can find a coach in the offseason. I like what Hickey started off with. Get rid of the dead weight (Hartline, Ellerbe, etc.) and add a TE and WR. Find 1-2 guards, decide on keeping Satele at C or putting Pounce back there.

I am not sure on the defense. Is it Coyle? Is Starks overrated after his fat contract? Did we miss the chance to trade Wake? Is Jordan a bust? Lot of question marks, lot of holes. That defense last Sunday looked the opposite of a few pieces away. The safeties were awful, and the depth at CB is scary. Finnegan is not a long-term solution, hell Grimes isn't either. Jelani Jenkins allowed EIGHT of EIGHT passes his way for a ton of yardage and a TD. What was that?

Let's hope this team can rebound this week against a down opponent, after that, the season is on the line against Baltimore. I will hold my breath Ross finds a coach.

Coyle is probably a small part. Think about it, Jenkins on Demaryius Thomas. What kind of scheme is that? A dumb one. Look what they did to Reshad Jones last year, basically making him play with handcuffs on.

Grimes/Finnegan for another year, CB in Round 1, and Jamar Taylor, then add either Will Davis or another CB and that's 5 usable ones. Maybe this Aikens kid from this year's class helps out as well.

Wake is old, and he's certainly passed his trade value (which I begged for for 2 years) but he should still be solid next year. With luck, they can keep Dion off drugs, and he can work in the offseason better. Vernon and Odrick are good, and Mitchell has been solid. Starks has and always be just a space eater so the LBers can stay clean. He takes on doubles, and doesn't get a lot of numbers, but he does what Soliaii used to do. Still have Shelby and Fede also.

Next year, if they keep Misi, with Jenkins, McCain, Tripp, and maybe even use Jordan some, they should have decent LBer, depth, add one extra one in the draft or FA, and that should help bolster that unit.

A more aggressive coach, and more importantly, one who will teach situational coaching better is what would help this defense. So much of their problems isn't the talent, it's the teaching, the preparedness. 3rd and 20, an dJamar Taylor jumps on an 8 yard route. You WANT them to throw 8 yards. You have to teach your players what you want, and need. That's what Bill does better than anybody, his players, every single one of them, know what to do EVERY play. They know when to press, they know when to back off. Our players never do. They always play back, or pressure at the wrong time, etc.

We need a couple pieces on O still, but the focus should be on the defense, to make it 100% complete dominant. They are "decent" already, we've seen that, they play well in spurts, and there is talent on the roster, but they need more depth, and smarter prep so they can handle all things that happen in game. Look at how we lost the GB game, CB lets the WR get out of bounds rather than just tackle the guy in bounds, and keep the clock moving. Philbin calls multiple time outs, yet the Packers convert the next play each time, AFTER A TIMEOUT!!! Even when they call timeout, they don't get the players in the right spots to make a play to get off the field.

Think of what a Pittsburgh coach, or a Baltimore coach, or Seattle, etc could do with this same group of defenders. They'd have them flying all over the field on 3rd and longs and killing teams. We play zones, fall for double moves, and give up first downs.

I agree about Coyle. I don't think it's any coincidence that Vontae Davis gets to Indy, is allowed to play press technique, and ends up being one of the better CB's in the league. Dansby leaves Miami, goes back to playing Karlos Dansby football. He's been huge for Cleveland this year. Sean Smith even, allowed to play press in KC, is a very solid CB for the Chiefs. I do not understand this finesse, soft, play back scheme Coyle uses. Even in a 5-2, the defense was getting gashed for chunk yardage. The corners never play up at the LOS, welllll that's what NE and STL used to beat Denver like a drum. There were some 2-man rushes and 3-man rushes used against Peyton on Sunday, no wonder he looked comfortable. One hit, one pressure, one sack. This from a line that was just called horrendous by Mark Schlereth. Julius Thomas wasn't even needed on Sunday, Demaryius was allowed free releases in the redzone multiple times because of Coyle's scheme. It holds us back. I really, really, truly hope Ross can convince Jim to join this team in the offseason. We need a super aggressive scheme and no I don't want Rex Ryan as DC, I saw that idea thrown around on the web and I think it stinks.

I hate Rex too, but tell ya what, just give him the defense, nothing else, no coaching offense, no press conferences, nothing, just coach the defense, THESE players????? Man, Iono.

Think what he could do with Wake, Vernon, Jordan, Odrick, Jenkins, Misi, Grimes, Jones, Delmas........get him 3-4 more pieces via the draft, and a full offseason to teach, you don't think he could do better than Coyle?

I know it will never happen, but Harbaugh callin the overall shots, Lazor the offense in year 2 with these guys, Rex the DC with a few added weapons.

They win 8-9 games with these idiots for coaches, new, better, more aggresive coaches, with a few extra pieces put in place, wouldn't get to 10-11 wins? I mean.....

I have no doubt this unit would perform better under Rex than Coyle. I think this team is, at worse, 8-3 with a better coach. Heck maybe the KC/BUF games look different if Philbin has this team prepared for football vs. physical teams.

It's amazing the filth I read on other boards about "Philbin deserves another season" all because he's "over .500"

what can i say, you nailed it. I'm not saying i know miami dolphins in and out like you do but from what i've been seeing, hearing throughout the years especially being an AFCEast foe, the fins are thisclose being a legitimate contender. Gotta put final touches on the team, no more of this failbin experiment. bring in an aggressive coach, and so on.. i dont need to repeat what you just said.  Perfect example of how much coaching can make a difference. You said, 3 and 20 or whatever, let them make the 8 yd throw, don't jump the route! dumbasses. Exactly right. That's how hoody will teach i would imagine.

Oh yeah, Gronk > Graham. C'mon bro. But to each their own (even blindly

)

I suspect you have a....dark side brewing in you, my young pawadan. Don't shy away from it; embrace it, before you know it, "UNLIMITED POWERRRRRRRRRRR" aka automatic playoffs berth plus byes, division titles, conference titles, and possible Super Bowl(s). That we can promise you this much, youngin' or rather, an oldie?

Come on over here, it wouldn't be a big transformation since you're a closet brady/hoody fan.
