I don't see the other Greeks on NT celebrate their Founder's day, but I don't eem care. Tried to tag all the bruhs that I know of on NT.

Stop and take a minute to reflect on what 103 years really means. From the founders of our fraternity having to sit outside of class rooms to receive an education ( :nerd: who knows that story?), to one of the richest black men in the US being a person we call a brother. From our founders having to face a tremendous amount of adversity, to which extents we in 2014 could hardly fathom, to our members all having the potential to go where they want to go, do what they want to do, and be who they want to be. Never cheat yourselves of the potential you have to achieve. Strive to do better in all that you do. Realize that you truly can do all that you set your mind to. Yo to all the bruhs. Love my ΚΑΨ. Like my Dean says every year.

Let the haters hate. It's J5 and we finna be great.

Not a Brother but Greek nonetheless, congrats guys.

Happy Founders Day Nupes! YO! YO!

The Frat so nice they named it twice!!

Only been in 65 days and Im loving every second of it..... From the Community Service, to being a leader, to the fun times... Its always something new in the land of ΚΑΨ..

I enjoyed my first National Founders Day in Baltimore... even busted out my first shimmy... had the ladies swooning to me and my LBs... had them like this LOL

Always interested in greek life.  Even seriously thought about crossing.

Serious question for the Kappas.  Does the Gay stigma associated with the fraternity bother you? How did that even originate because it can't just be from shimmying...

No. There are gay dudes in every major organization, black and white, including ours. I can only speak for myself, but its never bothered me. I guess because we call ourselves pretty boys and we typically like to look nice and take care of ourselves, people just always spectulate about it.

We're the best dressed, best looking, and best paid frat as far as D9 (and beyond) is concerned. Only natural that people try to associate something that can be perceived as negative (I don't view LGBT as a negative.) A couple of Kappas have even married each other. I'm happy they're happy..

I could understand maybe 30+ years ago, but why do people still join fraternities?

I could even understand joining a business fraternity of some sort... but y'all pretty much pay to get hazed, learn dances, and party a couple times a month?

If you think those are the only things that fraternities are involved in, you should do some research.

Seriously, no one is joining a fraternity to do philanthropic work... Trust me I know more about Greek life than you think.

No one you know, perhaps. Of course, very few if any people are pledging SOLELY to do community service, but many brothers take the community service aspect very seriously. Myself included.

I'd post pics of our annual Santa breakfast (where we give out breakfast and 100s of toys to kids in a low income community,) or pics of our mentor program, or pics of our many community clean up events (we do at least 3 a year)...but you know about all that, right?

Because you need to join a fraternity to do that?

I'm not hating do you fambs...
Personally, I just don't understand the purpose or need for social fraternities in 2014

Nah. It is what it is. I know there's no sugar in my tank, and I know there was zero homosexual acts involved when I was made.

Greek life isn't what it used to be. A lot of people pledge only for the partying. Again, I can only speak for myself. I do community service and I put my achievements on a higher pedestal than partying and harlots that are dense enough to let my affiliation with three Greek letters play any part in their attraction to me.

I've said it before, you don't need to be Greek to accomplish things. A lot of people misconstrue the wanting of an individual to be Greek with their supposed "need". I didn't "need" friends, I had enough before Greek life. The thought that I paid for friends is comical to me, but I understand it's a stigma attached to folks in Greek life.

To put it as simple as possible... I pledged because I wanted to. I researched the organization before I joined, and thought it was a good fit for myself. One of the best decisions I've made. Put me in some great circles. Every time I see a bruh with a long list of achievements, it makes me want to work harder so I can continue to compile my own. The past 4 years have taught me a tremendous amount about myself and people in general.

YO to the Nupes! :pimp:

Can we officially add fraternities to the list of topics that will inevitably fail on NT? Along with race, religion etc.

Fraternities don't exist for the same reasons they did decades ago. The true struggle isn't as debilitating and people join for different reasons and have different motives. I don't think that's even debatable.

I'll just leave it at that.

Thing is, you're grouping everyone in the category of joining fraternities for the wrong reasons, when there are definitely exceptions to this supposed rule. We could go back and forth debating like folks do in race or religion threads, but this thread isn't about debates. I'm not going to let it get bogged down by cheap shots about homosexuality or Krispy Kreme donuts. FOH.

I made this thread to celebrate what 10 men built 103 years ago. It's to honor their achievement. It's to acknowledge the brotherhood, and what it means to me. Simple as that.

Dudes disagree with organizations still existing today? It's cool, I understand your points. But this thread is about the Bond reaching another year. Of you guys would like to discuss fraternal life in general, make a separate thread and we can discuss and debate there. Otherwise, let me enjoy what I'm a part of. Let my thread be great.
