Where do Dirk and KG end up in the pantheon of All-Time Best PFs?

KG > Dirk all day

Dirk was a great shooter/scorer and that's it. He played one side of the floor. KG did damn near everything carrying that team in Minnesota.

From '01-'04 Nash averaged 16.5 & 8 in 34 minutes on 48/42/90 shooting. 21 PER, TS% a hair under 60%. His assist numbers shot up in the 7SOL offense but besides that when you adjust for pace his numbers really aren't that far off. Dallas Nash was still a really good player.

But that's not really relevant because Dirk did his best work without Nash. Or Finley.

The Steve Nash Dirk played with wasn't the same Steve Nash that played in Phoenix.

Please enlighten me to when I said he wasn't

I simply said he wasn't the same caliber of player in Dallas that he was in Phoenix and I don't see how that's debatable

Yup

this is a tough one.  I usually side with the better defensive more all around players (especially at the PF position) but the way dirk could take over a game was something else.

idk but i would prob take chuck over both.  just an absolute beast.  hope BG takes notes

Or Josh Howard who deservedly made an All-Star team with the Mavs?

It is relevant because people were bringing up the lack of quality teammates for Dirk to bolster their argument when prime KG had it worse.

And I simply said he was very close to it unless you think he magically became significantly better at age 30.

at their primes, duncan and kg were comparable, which at this point in time, speaks volumes of tims consistency.

id probably side with kg > dirk just because of his impact on the defensive end alone

Outside of Steve Nash who was putting up 15 and 8 in Dallas, Dirk has never played with another HOFer in his prime.

Look back on those teams from 2004-now and tell me who stands out as a true #2 option.

Monta Ellis is the best scorer Dirk has ever played with in his career. Monta Eills

Well the 06 chip should have have been there's But I mean it wasn't world class talent but Michael Finely, Antoine walker, Antwan Jamison were all pretty good players in thier own right.

3 of those dudes play the same position.

That team was the worst Mavs roster of Dirks prime.

Antoine.

Horribly inefficient chucker.

antoine walker was on the team that beat them in the 06 finals

I can't emm put KG above 5.

At no point in time in his career could you throw him the ball with the game on the line consistently.
EXACTLY. dude never even wanted the ball in crunchtime.kg got punked by ap.

duncan

malone

barkley

dirk

kg

Defensive toughness and identity of the team --> KG

Offensive needs and clutch scoring --> Dirk

Can't say one is more important than the other.  They each have their specialties.  Depends on what the team wants/needs.

I'd take Duncan over both no matter what.

For the record.

1. Tim Duncan

Gap signifying that these other dudes ain't close.

2.Karl Malone
3.Dirk
4.Chuck
5.KG

To be fair, Malone played in Jordan's era, and if Jordan had stayed retired, he'd probably have a few rings.

But I agree, if I'm building a team around a PF in his prime, it's Tim Duncan.

I always hated that argument. Who cares if they played with Jordan.

Guys in the past fifteen years have had to play against All-Time greats too; Kobe, LeBron, Shaq, Timmy.

to be fair, timmy played in the shaq/kobe era
the shaq kobe era dominated tim and the spurs though, what makes tim great is he was the anchor that kept the team together while teams like the kings and blazers broke up

True true.

Duncan didn't win anything when Shaq/Kobe were together.

It's not like I'm defending Malone or anything.  Just pointing out how a lot of guys are forgotten because they didn't win any championships and happened to be playing in an era of dominant all time greats.
