Drake might not be the best at everything but to say that he is not Top Tier is pretty dumb.

At the end of the day numbers is what matter. Drake has been puttting those up.

so Drake wasn't singing in the Aston Martin music hook?

Find your love was like 4 years ago though. That was like the first time homie went on a major tour right? He's sounds way better now.

Let's talk about hold on we're going home. That's a better example. I guarantee he don't sound like 4 years ago
post #7237 of 14335
@JinKazama that's exactly what we are saying 😂. I swear if we found out a dude like Kendrick had somebody penning their **** y'all wouldn't be so o well it probably happens more than we know, or o it happens. If it does it does but he got caught. Until other dudes get exposed for having people write for them we won't talk about it. Not once or twice those this **** has been rumored for a long time. Now if your a fan and still will enjoy the music fine but don't act like its no big deal and doesn't matter. Especially when dudes were just saying he's top tier because he has respectable lyrics, and good song making abilities/makes hits while all along he might not even be penning all those hits.

He sangbthat **** at an award show and sounded terrible. If that's the bar for being a legit singer I know some dudes that need to make that jump. What I'm saying is when u hear the CD format anybody can sound good, rihanna sounds great on radio. Them ****** can't sing live man 😂 Santa not real bro.

@MrWavezthat's exactly the song I'm talking about

I think it takes more than just Lyricsim to be top tier...

All the greats had more than just lyrics... Jay wouldn't have made it as far as he has if he didn't have more than lyrics... And Nas career would have been a lot more if he had more than just lyrics.

rap is more than being a lyricist, thats like saying lebron isnt top tier because he cant shoot like korver

it's the reason a lot of lyricists can't get on the radio or spins anywhere ---- they suck at making SONGS

Horseshoe Gang raps circles around people, but their songs suck... it's nothing you want to listen to while you work, drive, workout, drink at the bar, etc....

Fred the Godson is one of my favorite rappers but his songs are so underwhelming ...same with Slaughterhouse ... Crooked I, in particular, makes the worst songs ever but that boy got flow

Slaughterhouse can and have made good complete songs. Never heard enough solo Crooked I to judge. Good looks on the Horseshoe Gang mention. Love their stuff over other people's beats, but haven't heard enough original stuff. I think Fred Da Godson is such a chore to listen too laugh.gif it's like you can tell he's very skilled, but it doesn't really come across like that when you listen to his songs.

@JAYFIEND u are 100% right. But they are saying Top tier means making hit songs, respectable lyrics, marketable. He's marketable has respectable lyrics but he just got exposed for the 3rd time not penning his music. I mean can we really say he's making hit records if he's not? Top tier entertainer for sure but top tier rapper? Idk if he ain't penning them hits nah.

Drake is the rap game's James Harden. Ghostwriters are his free throws and help from the refs.

Right now, Harden is considered one of the best handful of players in the world. And the clear best at the SG position. But the SG position is weaker today. Just like the rap game. When it's all said and done though, you likely won't mention him in the same breadth as MJ/Kobe/Wade at the SG position. Just like you can't mention Drake with the Hov's/Nas of the world.

KIA shine was saying it way back when, and I remember reading about some chick saying she was writing for him. But hate aside he's a kanye level entertainer, loved by many around the world. And a kanye level rapper, gets help penning his hits.

Like MJ, Kobe and D.Whistle doesn't get calls from the refs laugh.gif

And we know 100% that Nas and Jay didn't get bars from others?

Isn't here video evidence of Jay doing with Ye in here and the amount of Big's lyrics he used. Oh yeah, I forgot. when Jay does it he is paying homage laugh.gif

Trying to act like it is the same thing laugh.gif

Ya'll sure do go hard trying to defend Drake.

It's like with steroids, well everybody does it. Everybody isn't failing or getting caught so that must not be true. There's a ton of reference tracks floating around involving other rappers, right?

If this involved a rapper you didn't care for you would feel the same way, right?
Hov's spot at the top is solidified. His successes are not suspect.

And that video was inconclusive.

I rock with Drake somewhat. He isn't someone I compare with Nas, Jay, 3k or rakim. But, it is not ironic that he once was an actor, so, he definitely is school on scripts and public relations. He's a true thespian so, he does act out these ghostwritten songs really easily. It's weird though because his father is from memphis, a place of RICH music history so, I thought he'd try to be more authentic. The machine is definitely behind dude. It is blatant, with city council men, brands, and media outlets bandwagoning the beef. People who hate rap, and our culture.

laugh.gif Brah Please. You really gonna take this stance

And I never said it was cool. I said it was a bad look from the jump.

But it seems like for some folk it a crime against music for Drake to use someone else bars, but when other folk do it it is "part of the game"

And if Drake wasn't a rapper you hated would you be acting like you're acting?
If the use of writers in hip-hop was so prevelant and everyone does it...why are we having this conversation?

If Jill Scott came out and said Rihanna doesn't write her music, it wouldn't be such a big debate, because we already know that practice is commonplace in that particular genre.

If it were the same for rap, this wouldn't be garnering so much attention and major radio stations wouldn't be having this same debate and asking people to call in and give their two cents.

The "how do we know everyone else isn't doing it" is like asking "well how do we know every actor wasn't dropping quaaludes in martinis in the 70s"?

There's a reason this subject is so taboo in hip-hop.
