Do White People Ever Talk About Being White?

A white dude once told me. Being white is awesome. His skin will always protect him.

Someone said something similar to me at work the other day

He said no disrespect and asked me if it was hard being colored and that it was finally nice to have a colored coworker  out of the 30 or so employees I'm the only minority

Thing is I'm Cuban and not even dark skinned but have semi dreads

Seriously had me in tears. A+ gif execution!!

I promise, ya'll.

Like, sincerely promise that I wanted to start an honest discussion based on a question i randomly thought up today.

I iz disgusted with the direction this thread has turned.

I was gonna either make this or a @WaveChappelle Appreciation Thread.

I thought I would go the intellectual route.

I live in a place that is mostly poor to lower middle class white people. 20 years ago or so, the older folks (grandparents) would say certain stereotypes about Germans, Italians, etc or they would say if you're this religion you should date this religion. But, you never hear this anymore. I have never once heard someone refer to themselves as white or say "white people do this or that."

I did go through all of middle school and half of high school with a friend who was black. We never really talked about our races. When we would get in trouble for stupid things in high school he would joke that he got in less trouble than the rest of us because they were scared he'd accuse them of racism.

The only real stereotype he always heard was "you must be good at basketball" (he was  ) There was more prejudice towards other white people who didn't work and were viewed as "taking advantage of the system" than other races. When I went to college in the city, I then saw all black people hanging together and all white people hanging together, and racism seemed more prevalent.

the ignorance on this board is beyond astounding.

probably the same dudes i've encountered that would refer to anyone not black or white as "chinese"

im not white but i imagine it could be really frustrating to see something like this and trying to respond without seeming racist.

any kind of dialog just turns into blatant racism and stereotyping.
