Visiting Honolulu, Hawaii for 8 Days, what should I do

i live on the big island
for natural beauty / relaxing big island, maui, kauai are all amazing, but they dont offer much besides that

basically, if your a city cat every island is boring except oahu
yeah pretty much on point

I just booked a $594 roundtrip flight to Honolulu. I live in eastern Canada. Crazy deal. Only 6 nights.

We arrive at night first day so we miss the first day. Oh my god cannot wait! !! Will check out this thread in the coming months to plan an itinerary.
How did you swing that? My goodness

This year we have RAT so the wife and I are going to Hawaii. I guess we'll stay 5-7 days. We'll be at the Hale Koa.

If you stay for a long duration, say 10 days to 2 weeks, my Costco membership came in clutch. My family owned a timeshare and we were tired/drained from eating out.

I myself prefer Waiola's over Matsumoto's but who am I to judge

Only thing I felt I really missed out was not stopping by Rainbow Drive Inn.

Oh yeah, if you're going to Maui, Lahaina is

rainbows is ok. i still eat there sometimes: hash with gravy and chili on my rice with mac salad. that's more calories than i should eat in a whole day though. one popular place that i hate is zippys. way overrated. there are local places like liliha bakery or shiges saimin that are much better. if you're adventurous and want to try hawaiian food, the best place is helenas. if you want authentic mexican food - don't come to hawaii

wait... thats ksteezy wife? looks a lot different from the other pics ive seen him post.. i think

Expedia.

Right now, round trip airfare from Toronto to Honolulu and back are going for $591, taxes included.

For the 3 of us, for 6 nights flight + hotel came up to $910. We're just staying at a 3 star hotel 5 min. walk from Waikiki beach.

Co-sign on Shimazu and Waiola. Matsumoto's is by far the most famous, but unless I'm driving to the other side of the island, I won't bother because there's always a super long line. It was pretty cool seeing Matsumoto's have a stand in the middle of Shibuya, Tokyo last year. I only wish shaved ice would catch on in Japan like how "Hawaiian pancakes" did though, but I guess now would be the wrong season for anyone to open one. Why not poke though? It's like sashimi with some extra stuff...

speaking of hawaii in japan, the weirdest thing to me is seeing the line for eggs 'n things in harajuku.

I have heard of it but I hardly mess with that place even in Honolulu. Last time I went was before they moved from the original (?) location near the beginning of Waikiki when they'd be open from like 2am until 2pm, and even then lines were crazy unless you got there before 8-9am.

More off topic: there's also a Cinnamon's and Kaila Cafe in Harajuku but haven't gone there either. I like pancakes, but I can't eat them as the only thing. I need some eggs, Portuguese sausage, bacon, SPAM, steak, etc. to go with it. I also saw an Eggs n' Things in Yokohama and the line went to the end of the block!

Wailana Coffee House has a bacon & eggs (or something similar) with all-you-can-eat pancakes and are open 24 hours so it's a worthwhile late-night alternative to Denny's for those in Waikiki.

Planning my trip for August, got a stand-by round trip ticket for 175. Any info on cheap hotels?

Was is Honolulu 2 years ago for a wedding. Loved every minute of it. Take the time to enjoy the sights and don't fall for tourist traps. Dole plantations kinda boring. Riding ATVs was fun and just crushing around the island and stopping at random beaches. Miss waking up to this view. View media item 765504

I just came back from my honeymoon in Honolulu and for me it was all about the poke rice bowls!

Just got Honolulu yesterday and just found this thread today, had Teddy's burger randomly for lunch a bit ago. Great burger definitely recommend it! Gonna check out some of the things you all recommended, thanks in advance!!

Maui is pretty damn awesome, just came from there, and before that was in Kauai

The Ohana Hotels are a great value...  I've seen the Ohana East going for like $70 a night.   If you have friends in Hawaii, try and ask them to get you a room at the Kamaaina rate for you.
