Scarface Says Rap Is "Sounding Stupider And Stupider"
January 18, 2014 | Soren Baker

Scarface says that modern Rap music pales in comparison to the quality of material being generated in other forms of music.

“The Rap **** [is] sounding stupider and stupider, and Country music is sounding more brilliant,” Scarface says in an interview with xxlmag.com. “Rock music is sounding more brilliant and Alternative music is sounding way more brilliant. **** sound good as ****. Everybody [in Hip Hop] wants to turn up now, even in R&B. Who stole the soul? The soul is gone. Twenty-five years ago it was called soul. Thirty years ago it was called soul. Then they turned it into rhythm and blues, R&B. What is it now? Is R&B gone, too?”

A member of politically-minded Gangster Rap group the Geto Boys, Scarface says that music helped determine the type of act he would become.

“I think that the music that I listened to turned me into the artist that I am,” he says. “I grew up listening to great music that molded my character and my artistry, that helped me. You got to look at it. Look at the music that came out 25 years ago. Now match it up to the music that came out today. There’s no comparison to it. I go back to the same question that I always ask. Who stole the soul?”

I definitely agree about the soul being sapped out of R&B music, but as far as other music genres being more advanced and brilliant? Nah, everybody is doing relatively the same thing on a mainstream scale. I couldn't tell you the country or rock equivalent to rappers I can't stand, or the ones who stink in general, but I definitely know they're there.

...and he's 100% right.

It's gone cause most of you cats don't want soul no more.

Yall seem to only respect, encourage, and promote the nonsense.

The realness been left the building.  And everyone is cool with it...

I disagree, I think Miguel/Frank Ocean/John Legend gave us some decent R&B efforts. Kendrick/Cole/Drake/Krit gave us great rap the last two or three years and they are household names in rap. People always have revisionist history like Master P didn't dominate radio 15 years ago with straight garbage. Good music is out here, some people just choose to ignore it.

The"everything was better back in my day" argument is getting tired. There is quality rap music being made nowadays. The problem is the mainstream has turned to complete ****. It fives the impression that the whole genre has gone up in flames, which it hasn't

In terms of R&B, my dude Aloe Blacc is absolutely killing it. AB >>>>>> your favorite singer out right now

But it's true , Yea there's people putting out good music but there's way more terrible music out there,it used to be the opposite and IMO rap has gone up in flames when 90% of music is trash (mainstream and underground )

THIS
I noticed a change after "BMF" came out in 2010 when everybody started going to get those cookie cutter, south side trap beats...To homie that says MASTER P music was garbage it wasn't totally garbage & I'm not sayin this just cause I'm from New Orleans cause back then I was a Cash Money fan but P & No Limit music was original... Back then I didn't expect JAY,OUTKAST,MISSY,BIG PUN,DIDDY etc.. music to sound like MASTER P music..Prime example listen to FRENCH,MEEK,LIL DURK, KEEF, ROSS everyone of those dudes sound like ATL TRAP RAPPERS & none are from ATL..It sounds like to me these dudes go to the same producers & get their beats out of a grab bag...And R&B is lacking too somebody brought up FRANK OCEAN nahh that dude makes elevator music its boring to me...Any time a song like "DRUNK IN LOVE" gets more respect & play than a CHRISETTE MICHELE song something is wrong with R&B as well...Its like everybody wants to make a strip club type sound its ******ed...

Face is that F'ing dude. No doubt. I'm blessed that I love folk, rock, jam, real R&B (Saadiq, Amp Fiddler stand up!) so I can bounce around and still get those feels from music.

Rap sucks today. Men wearing female clothes and copying each other's rhymes. I don't **** with this new rap. It's pathetic.

R&B, I listen to plenty of R&B still. There's a lot of good R&B today, you just don't hear it on the radio or MTV because they only want to play the pop/rap or the pop/R&B.

It's funny how one person will say it, and people will get defensive with the he's not relevant. Another person says virtually the same thing, and people agree.

No there isn't. There's few R&B artist, especially compared to the 80's and 90's.

R&B artist are having problems securing deals and putting out records, because R&B isn't selling.

Ok... I'll take the bait... Who are you referring to with the "one person will say it" comment? And don't even bring that douche bag Lord Jamar in here.
