I just notice after doing a few web searches, visiting some sites etc... that my results as well as the pages and info I viewed online is appearing as ads on Niketalk. Just wondering is anyone else experiencing this issue?

yea lol I know this but never really had this issue on NT... Whats weird is right after this post all the ads are gone.

It's gotten weird recently. The side ads I haven't cared about, nT has to get money somehow, but recently this ad keeps popping up while I browse general. It popped up as I started typing this (look at the time the photo was taken)

It happened earlier and I PM'd Meth about it. The redirecting ad is the only one that really rustles my jimmies.

I hardly get ads now that I've uninstalled a load of useless crap off my laptop.

That sounds like AdSense to me.  As others have mentioned, you can thank Google for that.  We're not collecting that information.

They do have a "do not track" setting in Chrome, for whatever that's worth.  Most browsers now have some sort of "do not track" option, though they reportedly vary in their effectiveness.  You may as well give yours a try.

What few direct sales ads we run tend to be those associated with the site sponsors.  The rest arrive courtesy of various backfill networks, Google AdSense being the most prominent.  In other words, we're not the ones gathering your browsing data for the purpose of ad targeting.  Honestly, this isn't that sophisticated an operation and, besides, it would be a total waste of time in our case.  NikeTalk represents a pretty well targeted audience as it is.

The NBA doesn't need to spy on everyone in an arena to know that ads for basketball sneakers might be a good fit.  It's the same story here.  The difference is that we can't fill all of our ad inventory by ourselves, so we rely on networks to handle the rest.  Each network has its own criteria for selecting the ads that appear in any given user's browser.

If you're seeing an ad for DTLR, that's probably a direct sales ad served by NikeTalk.  We don't need to track anyone to know that it's a good fit.  If you're seeing an ad for something in your local area, for that new car you've been scouting, or for some skin condition you looked up on webmd five minutes ago, that's the product of an ad network - and you'll find those types of ads all over the web.
