speaking of receivers, im a fan of the stevie johnson signing but can someone explain how he fits into the niners offense given that we barely run three wide receiver sets?
From some of the comments made by the coaching staff during the off-season it is my understanding that we will/plan on running more 3 receiver sets.  This was said before the Stevie Johnson deal and now that he is on board, I expect that to definitely happen more this year.
49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman says he’s ahead of schedule
49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman has been making the rounds without the aide of crutches. Bowman’s knee buckled at an horribly awkward angle when players fell on his left leg in the 49ers NFC title game loss in Seattle.

Bowman tore his anterior cruciate ligament and his medial cruciate ligament after falling on the ball for what appeared to be a 49ers turnover. At the bottom of the pile, the Seahawks recovered.

After surgery in January, Bowman now says he’s ahead of schedule in his media interviews with ESPN, CSNBayArea and Bay Area Newspaper Group.

Bowman told ESPN he will begin running in the pool in the next four to six weeks and that building up his left quadriceps muscle is key during this phase of his rehabilitation.

BANG reported that Bowman is in Miami, working with the same trainer that guided the miraculous recovery of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson from ACL surgery. After that, Bowman intends to return to the South Bay where 49ers trainers will oversee the final stages of his rehab.

Bowman will undoubtedly lobby to play at the start of the season, which will be about eight-and-a- half months after the injury. “The coaches have mentioned several times that they don’t want me to rush,” he said.

The 49ers slowed the knee-surgery rehabs of defensive lineman Tank Carradine and running back Marcus Lattimore. Neither played a down last year.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh mentioned that Bowman is expected to return at mid-season, but Harbaugh said he would not underestimate Bowman’s ability to return sooner.

One result from the injury was a change in the NFL rule book. In what will now be known as the “NaVorro Bowman” rule, officials can review loose balls to determine which team recovers the turnover.

“I commend them for doing it,” Bowman said of the rule change. “But it doesn’t fix my knee.”

If Crabtree balls out this year I expect the Niners to let him walk. His agent will ask for big money and some team will overpay. Trent will gladly collect a 3rd round comp pick.

got damn! that is deep lol. we got some good depth now so we should be ok if he does leave. but enough of that! we need to focus on this year.

As long as crabs contributes to us getting our sixth this season, I'm fine with him walking

Crabs loves Cali I don't see him leaving.

Plus just like Pete Carroll guys love playing for Jim anybody that Jim wants to retain will be.

I mean if this is the case and $$ > winning then I could see him signing across the Bay and likely not even have to move from his house nor his family (if he has any with him)

Crabtree is as good as gone. He will get overpaid. maybe he thinks twice if we win it all but I doubt it.

Who is faster Crabtree or Johnson?
Stevie has more quickness for sure. Dude gets in and out of his breaks faster than Crabs. I think all the toe/foot/ankle injuries Crabs has accumulated over the years have taken away a step or two. Seems like every year Crabtree has some sort of injury involving his toe/foot/ankle.

I don't think he was ever THAT fast to begin with. Great teams lose good players, but they can replace them through the draft or signing decent players and getting the most out of them.
Just think, if the 49ers still had Smith, they'd have no trouble signing Crabtree .

Crabtree was never a blazer, but he had solid speed in college at texas tech. He probably runs a 4.7-4.8 now and would do horrible in the 3 cone

I feel like he's a bargain buy next year in the crop of FA receivers and if Jim wants him here he will be. But if he's not here so be it he's not irreplaceable.

Ill miss Frank G a lot man No BS
