Jim is going to meet with media for first time on Wednesday

I forgot which player said it but they said that Jim has a similar scheme to Fangios

Maiocco just said on twitter that it'll be 3 man line on base packages and 4 man line on sub packages

the front should look very similar to last year. 5 guys on the LOS in base downs(2 OLBs, 2 5-tech DEs and a 0-tech Nose tackle), and 4 pass rushers in sub-packages. like mangini, O'neil loves to utilize exotic blitzes and confusing fronts.

the biggest defenses seems to be in the secondary.

fangio's scheme is the ultimate "bend--but-dont-break defense". he didn't blitz a lot, and he ran a lot of concepts that involved "pattern matching" by the DBs and LBs. we almost always ended up in quarters coverage where we had 4 guys on top of the defense.

i think wilhoite's reference to fangio's defense is in regards to the pattern matching. i know o'neil has his LB do a little pattern matching. the big difference between o'neil and lord fangio's defense is O'neil's defense is in the coverages where he's predominantly feast or famine. he's going to call a lot of man coverage with only one safety over the top, so there's going to be a lot of potential for big plays by the defense; conversely, there's also more potential for giving up big plays.

There's the scouting I was looking for... :D

there's going to be a ton of pressure on our corners and safeties this year. a lot more than any of them have experienced in the last few seasons.

O'neil also likes to drop his OLBs into coverage, so prepare to see lynchmobb dropping into coverage.

I pray that this aint the case...Lynchmobb probably one of the most underrated/unspoken of OLB when it comes to generating pressure. i hope they don't take away that asset. However, doing it occasionally does throw off he oline as to whether he's dropping back or rushing so there could be some advantage to it.

Can't wait to see the stunts they run between him and Defo
49ers spent third most in UDFA guaranteed money
The San Francisco 49ers signed 12 undrafted free agents following the 2016 NFL Draft, and it appears they spent a sizable chunk of guaranteed money on them. ESPN's Field Yates is reporting the team spent $203,000 in guaranteed money for its UDFAs.

We do not have specifics yet on player spending, but we do know it is a slight boost from last year. In 2015, reports said the 49ers spent $160,000 in guaranteed money. That covers signing bonuses and any guarantees of base salary. There is a rule on maximum total signing bonus allocation, which is $92,021 this year. However, there is no rule on guaranteed base salary money, so teams can guarantee as much base salary as they want to get around that limitation.

We'll likely hear some rumblings about individual player guaranteed money in the coming days or weeks. Devon Cajuste and Darren Lake seem like guys who probably got a decent amount of money, but there are always some surprises when that info leaks out. Learning that info can give us a better handle on players that were potentially seeing greater demand for the services at the end of the draft.
I don't like Jed as much as anyone, but this only further debunks the silly notion some fans like to cling onto that Jed doesn't want to spend. Harbaugh had the most expensive coaching staff in the entire NFL, and they're still paying Tomsula to go away and sit on a beach in Florida. His dad was cheap; Jed isn't.

I agree. And we can't blame them for not spending that huge cap space on FAs because honestly the FA talent pool wasn't worth the $$$

#49ers DC Jim O'Neil: "We want to stop the run on early downs, then we want to confuse and hit your quarterback."
that's very evident on the brown's tape

like mangini, O'neil loves to utilize exotic blitzes and confusing fronts.
jim o'neil praising the hell out of jimmie ward: "one of the 11 players that has to be on the field at all times"

I hate the bashing jed gets that he does not care about the team or does nothing to improve .

Jed is a bigger 49er fan than each and every single one of us. he was born into the 49er family and seeing and hanging out with the great stars that played here as a kid , so to say he does not care is probably the dumbest thing anyone can ever say to him
