ASU frat suspended "Offensive MLK Party"

Tell you the truth bro I Don't Know, we as a frat have never caused trouble on your campus, thought they do have to take it up TKE organization to see if they will still allow them to remain on ASU campus.

ah okay.

was wondering if they got kicked out of the frat or something, but if you're not sure what the protocol is no biggie.

You never see black people throwing these racially themed parties , just saying. Takes a special kind of hate to do something like this.
bruh............ive been sayin this for the longest mane

i dont even see the appeal of it at all, its just not fun or a fun atmosphere imo

I agree. It's like when black people say they can use the N word but no one else can. Once you hear someone else saying that word even as a term of endearment, they get called out for it. I honestly think the word just just bad in general and don't believe any race should use it. No one should get a pass for it at all.

I do believe there was racial issues at that ASU party but if they got rid of the watermelon drink and the hashtags and called a hip-hop party, would they still get the same type of flack for it? Probably not as bad but I bet there'd be someone calling them a racist just cause they are white.
If you say something negative about your mom or sister. Can I do that?

And stop mentioning what some black people say, as if all of us are the same and use the word and that excuse. So because some black people use it, you want to be able to use it towards all of us?
How bad is your reading comprehension, really? So after reading his post, you somehow took from it that he wants to use the word towards all of you because some of your own race uses it? I think most people with even the most modest of reading levels understand that he was saying that the word is bad as a whole and that no one should ever use it. You are always so quick to twist words around to make someone sound racist when it's not the case. And in this case, he was being the opposite of racist. Congratulations.

Ignorance has never been a good reason to do anything.

People keep on doing the same mistakes over and over.

People don't think about what they are doing.

as University students, these young people are supposed to be the "elite" of the society when it comes to intelligence. They are the leaders of tomorrow.

This is just depressing.

@SneakerHeathen   it appears everyone here has their mind made up. The thread is too far gone to "fix" anything. In all fairness, everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how myopic it may be. At this point, I give up on speaking about race on this board. It just turns into bickering most of the time, and there is no understanding, which I think is key in any progress.

don't agree with that.

some opinions are just too ignorant to say : it's ok, it's your opinion.

race thread on NT though :smh:

only thing positive is the number of click the site gets from those thread and the money it provides NT to give back to great cause.

St Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo are completely different than this (although still kinda offensive). Most people aren't going around pretending to be IRA members or illegal immigrants on those days, which this is the equivalent of. Dudes are walking around pretending to be gangbangers and sipping on watermelons. Also those two days don't celebrate the lives of any important historical figures
+1 Frisco cats know whats up....... repped

I hear that.

And I felt that way for the longest.

Didn't post in these threads for a long time.

Sometimes they hit a nerve and I gotta reply, heh.

What's even more frustrating is when real life conversations go the same route, time and again.

What do you expect from a classless institution like Arizona State University? :smh:

"Freedom to twerk" :x I find that just a disrespectful as the ASU kids

Oh stop bruh, U of A ain't any better.

and Tucson in general is far more segregated. Nobody really mingles outside of their own race and you know it.

I got plenty of friends from other races though.....

Besides not many institutions of "higher" learning are capable of the buffoonery that goes on in Tempe.

It's college man, everyone wants an excuse to get dressed up! throw a party and get drunk. We do it with St. Patricks and Cinco de Mayo, dressing up like leprechauns or Mexicans with sombreros.

I can see why some black people would be offended but god damn, it's not that serious. Those mlk club flyers are way worse lol

I don't know maybe I'm tripping, someone is going to be offended by my response anyways but I was expecting kkk costume, blackface or confederate flags. Not a bunch of dudes dressed in jerseys. I've seen way worse on Cinco de Mayo lol

The typical "I guess I know but I really don't know why blacks or other minorities get mad, we do this all the time response"

Bruh, you know that MOST people in Arizona stick to their own race.

Hey, we even spoke about how it was kind've funny how black folks out here all refer to each other as kinfolk. And I get that it's a term of endearment and brotherhood. But if I consider someone my brother it's not because they share my complexion, it's because I sincerely love that individual like my own blood.

And to see that type of kinship between men of different color/creed in Arizona is RARE.

I didn't go to High School out here as I'm from NY originally but from a lot of people that are AZ born and raised they tell me first hand how self-segregated their High School was.

There'd be like a handful of black kids who'd all stick to themselves, the natives stick to themselves, the white folks stick to themselves and the mexicans, ditto.

It's just the culture of Arizona, so while you might be an outlier, someone who associated with everyone, it's not usually the case. And fam I know from just seeing you on here that you're good people but you know this isn't something that's exclusive to Tempe.

This is everywhere, from Tempe to Tucson, especially in smaller towns like Globe, Yuma, Buckeye, etc. And just from my time in Tucson I saw first hand it wasn't a melting pot with people from various walks of life all mingling up.

So again this isn't an ASU issue, I'm sure there are plenty of ignorant U of A folk as well. I feel like this state has a culture of hate and intolerance.

I don't even get mad when people are overtly racist, so this doesn't bother me.

It bothers me more that the same black people who are mad at this, are the same black people calling each other "******." That I have a problem with.

*I'm black by the way
SMH. There's always at least one "brotha" more than willing to tapdance as we clearly see here.
I would rather know who my enemy is rather than having to wonder if someone is being genuine or not.

So in that regard... overt racism > covert racism

In regards to my next sentence, we as black people need to take a stand against racism and ignorance in its entirety. We can't keep picking and choosing what ignorance is acceptable, like continually accepting calling each other ******. If we are going to fight and take a stance against ignorance, we should do it all of the time and in every situation... especially with how we communicate with each other.

Ain't no tapdancing over here champ. I just call it like I see it.
As if tapdancing wasn't bad enough on your end, now you're tapdancing while playing a banjo.   Let me tell you something champ, you might be black, new to NT, and accustom to tapdancing, but that's NOT how we do here on NT.  If that's how you plan to operate, I suggest you find yourself a new message board to post on........is that clear.

At the end of the day racism is racism, no point in you saying "overt racism > covert racism".  Both have negative and long lasting effects.  Also there's a BIG difference between racism and black people being ignorant as you put it and calling each other ******, big difference.  If you want to advocate against black people calling themselves ****** that's fine, that would be taking a stand against ignorance.  The problem WE as a community face in this country is racism, same as it has been in the past, same as it is currently, and most likely the same challenge that we face in the future going forward.  That's our biggest obstacle in the black community.  It's a shame you don't know the difference between ignorance and racism.
First and foremost, I am not new to NT. I have been a NT member longer than the account name that I am responding to. And no I did not get banned, I just outgrew my previous name. I could sign into that account and respond to this post, but I don't need a NT name or a join date to add credibility to a point I am making. So with that being said, don't act like your established account means anything in this specific instance. Is that clear?

Secondly, there is a point of me saying overt racism > covert racism. While both are negative, if I know someone is overtly racist I know where I stand with them, and I won't associate with them. If I was a student at ASU and saw these kids taking these pictures, I would know exactly who NOT to associate with. Now if someone is covertly racist, I might unknowingly build a relationship with them thinking that they are a genuinely good person without knowing how they really feel. That relationship may eventually come back to hurt me without me even knowing it.

Lastly, I agree that racism is still the biggest issue for the black race. With that being said, being ignorant is also an issue. Just because I addressed both, doesn't mean I think they are the same thing. Are we clear?

You are entitled to free speech, no matter how ignorant/stupid one may sound

 this thread is out of control.

yea i had no idea it was gonna blow up like this....then again, :smh: at me for being surprised. a thread like this has been made multiple times before and turned into a lowkey race war...for no good reason. the students at asu were wrong, and out of line. that is all. typical NT racial back and forth.

The irony surrounding the whole "We can't be mad at white people, if black people are doing it" theory...is that when you trace the root of both problems...they lead back to same exact place.

Let's ask ourselves WHY Black people are: Having MLK parties at strip clubs, killing each other, etc.
