OFFICIAL ZOOM AIR APPRECIATION POST!

I can't feel zoom air in mostly any shoe that has it. Is there anyone who has this problem?

Some don't have it, some have a real thin bags and some models have a very dense midsoles that are preventing you from feeling the response from the Zoom. Just the nature of the beast today.

IMO Zoom Air works better for heavier people who can compress the cushioning to get the response.

I'm 250 and I can feel it in some models more than others. I still prefer Air.

I am asking here, because they both have Zoom Air. Anyone know what it means when the sole on front of your foot makes a crackling/crunchy noise, like something is breaking apart when walking? This happened in my Jordan 17 (originals) and the Kobe 11 most recently.

The cracking noise is the glue around the zoom bag probably not enough or dry and its sticking and then releases so the bag is moving a bit.

Thank you for replying. So then I have nothing to worry about and it is not a sign of the bags popping? I know the heel of the KB11 is zoom, just wasn't sure about the forefoot area.

Yeah if they pop, you definitely going to feel that, it will be like a flat tire basically.

Has anyone got photos of the fibers/thread inside of a Max Zoom? Like from the Lebron 10, KD7 heel, etc. I am wondering how strong the fiber structure is? like does it stand and stay in the pillar shape on its own or is it because it is "glued" in between the air bag?

Even pics of the yellow tensile/fibers in regular zoom bags I am interested in. Any pics of just the yellow fibers outside the bag would be cool. What if Nike made a shoe just with the the yellow fibers without an air bag? Wouldn't it still have the responsiveness?

I bought one of the Zoom bags off eBay for like $6 to put in my steel-toe work boots. It was hard, uncomfortable at first but after a week it's soft and bouncy. After reading this thread learning that Nike gets their Air bags off a third-party now makes sense on why we are able to get them cheaply off eBay. But Nike being the corporation that they are hyper-charges us for it. Now I wish we can buy boost insoles

I have a pair of Lebron XIs and I took out the insoles. I'm trying to take out the zoom unit to put into some of my other shoes since the insole obviously doesn't fit. After so many attempts of trying to take out the zoom unit I can't take out the zoom unit.    Are there any tips on how to take out the zoom unit?

Honestly, you're probably going to need a pair of pliers or some sort of tool to pull it or slide under the zoom unit to break the glue that's attaching it to the lunarlon portion.  This could work but you also risk ruining it.  It's glued on there so it's gonna take some force to pull it from the lunar insert.  Good luck

If there is glue underneath you could always hold the insole over a pot of steaming hot water to loosen up the glue.

Maybe I should/shouldn't post this here, but I have a question about how long zoom might last. I am debating buying a pair of shoes with exposed in the heel (Nike Zoom Flight Club -I believe the order is right lol) and I was just curious as to how long that lasts. The pair is from '09 and are DS. Any info helps.

100% perfectly fine

Speaking of Zoom Air...

Any idea as to how much I might get for these Nike Air Streak Spectrum Plus? (Size 11.0 and in great condition.)

I just recently came to NikeTalk to even figure out what they were called, and now that I do, I can't find any for sale or even completed recently.

Or...is there a vintage Nike running forum I should hit up with this same question?

This is my first memory of the first Air Zoom. "Air Zoom Enhance", had "Flight" logos too.

But it never made it to NBA because at that moment, Zoom Flight 2k3 & Air Zoom Huarache 2k4 took over.

Never was I able to afford that, the best I could wear was $40 Nike ACE'83

Zoom Hyperflights & Air Foamposites ($200 USD "Space shoes") were the sickest shoes by that time IMO.

I always wanted something that could help me jump higher, SHOX VC 1, adidas a3, Zoom Flights.

Thought that forefoot Air Max could make me bounce higher too, so I also took a look at Air Maxes.

I flied. Never could I dunk, but I do "nail the ball on the backboard" before completing the layup.

But Air Zoom never made me fly.

When I got into college, my dad bought me a pair of Jordan 12.5 team....... $140

Being a rookie PF in our department, after figuring out my rebounds are not as good as our center, I gave up.

Zoom Air unit in Jordan 12.5 didnt make me jump higher either way.........

Last year I bought a pair of (2012) Jordan 14s and confirmed Zoom Air doesn't make you jump higher.

Until I saw popped Zoom Air Units on Jordan 28SE, I knew Nike succeeded.

Perhaps Zoom Air unit in Jordan 28 29 make you jump higher?  the bottom loaded zoom, outsole carved out rubber cantilever makes the "unlocked" zoom functional. IMO this is innovation.

No wonder Jordan 28 will pop. Too much output.

Through these years, from Air Zoom Spiridon, to Air Jordan 27 (1 shoe 3 flight), Zoom unit never fully functioned.

Too bad I don't do power moves and want to dunk anymore, I only just shoot around with jumpshots.

My knees cannot sustain the super sized me.

I would like to try unlocked zoom though!  Hopefully makes me jump higher.

I wonder if Jordan Superfly 2 3 4 function the same as Jordan 28 29?

Because I was informed Jordan Melo 10 phylon was not hollowed out, and thus will not output like Jordan 28 SE.

Thanks!

If you love Zoom Air (I sure as hell do) then this post is for you!

Dating back to 1994 and originally known as "Tensile Air", Zoom has been the benchmark standard for cushioning since its inception. This post will focus on all the variations and implementations of Zoom.

Technically speaking.... It consists of thousands of vertical fibres sandwiched between 2 horizonal fabric layers that is sealed inside a polyuethane film. Pressurized gas (believed to be nitrogen) surrounds these fibres creating a flat, thin, low-profile air bag that provides a closer to the ground feel than the conventional Nike Air system. The gas surrounding the fibres creates a force within the bag in a way to put tension on the fibres without the bag popping or expanding. Upon impact, the bag compresses and relieves tension on the fibres, which then causes the gas in the bag to expand and returns the tension into the fibres causing them to spring back immediately after impact. This method of impact cushioning is designed for high speeds and quick foot transitions required for more faster players and guards without weight being a problem.

Which is true.

Enough talk. On to the pics!

PS - If you know of other shapes/sizes/implementations... feel free to contribute. I'll add it the OP.

A bit late to this thread but does anyone know what material the fibres in the zoom are made from?
