You're not alone, when I was playing ball back in the day I specifically remember associating them with Kenny Lofton. Although it wasn't his signature sneaker, he was a Nike athlete and rocked the red white pair on the regular.
As far as the crazy colorways for the Griffey's goes, the line has taken an absolute nosedive. It started out hot with the release of the fresh waters and volts. It was even tolerable when they were making somewhat relevant clean colorways such as the Reds pair. But the wheels have clearly fallen off as of late and they have turned this silhouette into an outlet bound mess. I don't know who is in charge with the color blocking and material choices, but the stuff releasing now leaves me scratching my head. There are plenty of ways to use bright flashy colors without making the sneaker look like a disaster. This is why I get scared when certain models of sneakers get the retro treatment.

yeah but bastardize the shoe all you want as long as i get my OG pair im cool but so many other shoe models that could be released and when they finally released the fury1 it was with that max sole and with some stupid upper materials? they did that to my Ndestrukts too with the mesh upper and entire midsole/sole change, i hate it

TTS or even a half size down. For me they fit closer to Jordans than Foams.

Totally agree. Lofton had the zoom diamond later on, but definitely rocked a couple low versions of the diamond fury 2. Wish they would retro that and the Griffey 3 in the OG colors.
These crazy colored retros must be selling enough to justify creating more, I see them on sale frequently, but i haven't seen any in outlets yet. The recent fusions on the other hand...

I liked the Seattle Seahawks colorway. Thought it was a nice touch with the crossover from baseball to football. And I kinda liked the platinum version too when they dropped. Just wouldn't spend $150 on them.
Wouldn't mind another pair of Freshwaters though. Kept it in heavy rotation for almost 2 years, so paint chips all over the midsole.
And I still have a pair of sample Volts that I copped from a Nike Outlet for $50. Just don't have much clothing to match, which is why it's still DS after all these years.

I like the griffeys but they hurt my feet, i had to switch the insole with my airmax insoles to wear my freshwater griffeys. i usually wear 10.5 but I got griffeys in size 11

ive heard this complaint from many people...
honestly... this may sound shallow but oh well... i always liked these griffeys... but i just cant bring myself to rock them because i see to kany girls rockin them.... over time it made me look at them as a girls shoe

These are terrible.. The whole "custom" look Nike is trying to go after is destroying so many classic shoes. Sad to see shoes like the Griffey 1 & the foamposite one go down in flames...

I got the volts. I'd def get the emeralds or freshwater if they ever released again. All these new cw's are wack imo.
