Is Peyton Manning the most overrated qb of all time?

Kap and Brees put up points on seattles defense in Seattle going against that incredible defense and home field advantage. The 49ers almost won and the saints had their chances. The best offense of all time could only put up 8 on Seattle on a neutral field. Who's the quarterback of this offense.

Like I've always said, best regular season qb of all time but he needs to stop getting a pass for his numerous playoff shortcomings

Son maybe you just know too many hardcore Peyton fans cuz for years people have been saying "He only has 1 SB....". Very few people are giving him a pass.

Honestly? Because I think more of you as a poster than to start a nonsense thread like this. I would come to expect this from certain posters. Didnt think you would be in that category.

Well that's your opinion. Just like its been my opinion for a while now that I feel Peyton manning is overrated.

Different sport but Barry bonds got ripped to shreds for his playoff failures in Pittsburgh and San Francisco.

Lebron got ripped apart for his playoff shortcomings, even after winning a title when his team fell behind 3-2 but lebron shut his critics the hell up by puting up a triple double in the biggest game of his life.

Peyton has had a very underwhelming track record in the playoffs. I could live with even the greats having a bad game or 2 in the playoffs and taking a home playoff loss. Montana to the 87 Vikings, elway to the 96 jaguars, Brady to the 10 jets etc but these losses were a rare occurrence and most people were shocked after those losses. When Peyton plays nowhere near the level we see from him in the regular season come January its moreso like "again" as opposed to being shocked.

We can debate it all we want but I'm sure Peyton would trade some of the record numbers he's set for better playoff success and another ring.

How is he not overrated after this loss?

8 points in the Superbowl. Even me being a Peyton Manning fan cant save him after this.

Stopped reading after you mentioned Bonds and LeBron. Them being "ripped to shreds after their playoff shortcomings" in no way included someone making a thread claiming they were the "most overrated player of all time."

Being overrated is entirely dependent on how the individual rates him in the first place. Since you don't know that (unless people have posted), how can these blanket statements be made? It's illogical

This is true on so many levels.

Did you see some of those passes he overthrew? He almost threw 3-4 picks. Mind you D.Thomas strip fumble and some of that defense was terrible but you still had the #1 offense (even though they were soft). The first play of the game and you give up a Safety and set the tone of the game. I expect Russel Wilson to do something like that :smh:

No more excuses for Peyton. I gave my man excuses with that Saints vs. Colts SB but this one is even worse.

To say Peyton Manning is overrated is just illogical. Look at his entire body of work. His place in the NFL hasn't changed and everything he's done for the league won't just go away after tonight either.

Where did I claim he was the most overrated player of all time. I asked if he was. Maybe all time is a reach but I could see how someone could view him as overrated.

Did lebron and Barry not get ripped and criticized for their playoff failures though. Both were seen as great regular season players and not as great playoff players before bonds run in 02 and lebrons last few years.

Ill just say this like I said earlier. Peyton is a great guy, good person, great teammate with the exception of when he threw his o line under the bus after the 05 playoffs steelers loss. He's always open and friendly to the media so they give him a pass on his shortcomings and he doesn't get the scrutiny others with shaky postseason track records get.

Peyton just got removed himself from the Mt. Rushmore of QB's.. Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Bret Farve, Unitas

It shouldn't go away but at the same time I feel you need to take the good with the bad. His playoff track record should get more critique then it usually gets.

I rarely use hypotheticals but if the patriots never blow that lead in the 06 afc title game, how is Peyton's career perceived at this point. He's had real good teams for the most part from about 03 on so the lack of talent issue that Marino had doesnt apply to him imo

Always speaking the truth.

I understand what your trying to get at but...

Like people have been saying on this very board this has been said since his college days and him being the #1 pick and playing in weak divisions/schedules for years. Its not a blanket statement because those playoff records and big games/numbers prove it. I cant debate or even try to make up blanket statements with cold hard facts and records bro.

I love me some Peyton but its a fact at this point in his career and after this game.

Yeah, id put Peyton over Favre. I got Peyton ranked 7th all time qb wise and got Favre 9th. But rankings like that are totally subjective.

100% correct.

Gotta say though...

This is a valid point.

Not a fan of this thread being made now because it screams "prisoner of the moment"...but if we focus on the body of work and not individual games, dmxfury's comment about Manning's post season play is right on.

It CAN'T be ignored.

This.

Even with that comeback in 06 the defense still carried him.

My dude is overrated (concerning those who rate him high). I had him as GOAT. He probably not even in my top 5 anymore after this game.

Peyton always stay w/ talent around him......place him on this years Patriots team and we wouldn't have won the AFC East
laugh.gif

I'm still amazed Brady carried the team to the AFC championship.......easily one of his most impressive seasons overall

This game definitely hurt his legacy... how does it not?

I never thought Manning was the GOAT, but he is easily one of the best to ever do it.

Brady>Manning

From a guy who can't stand Patriots. Brady is forever in the mix with whatever card he's dealt. Luckily he ran into a focused Eli twice, cuz I would hate to see him with 5 titles.

Peyton is still one of the greatest adversity aside.

Well now with JJ he is the most underrated QB of all time

That trash category has some very different names in there for me
