Trayvon pt. 2? Vol. Stay classy Florida...

so if a 14 yr old steals a pair of sneakers at a gym you have no problem with him being killed for that?

you sound like a true bozo
Not going to engage in conversation with you if you're going to try and get personal (like you always do)

It's different with children, if you knew anything about sensation seeking behavior or developmental immaturity, we could talk. But you obviously don't.

The law is flawed. That's my point. I only love it on the surface. I'd only support it in situations where it was used accurately. I'd have no sympathy for someone that knowingly stole something and was shot dead by the victim of the theft. The problem is the interpretation flaw as is the case with many laws.

This.

Who wants to live in a world were kids get blasted for one simple mistake.

ain't no way this dude not going to prison...

not one single chance.

I looks to be but always remember in Florida.......nothing is guaranteed.

2012
In Brandon, 70-year-old Ralph Wald walked in on former neighbor Walter Conley having (consensual) sex with his wife. After fatally shooting Conley, Wald claimed that although Conley had lived nearby, he did not recognize him and thought a stranger was raping his wife.

Wald was acquitted after a 2-hour deliberation.

His team invoked Stand Your Ground, according to the Tampa Bay Times, and noted that "Wald had 'no duty to retreat' when facing perceived danger within his own home."

2012
Greyston Garcia saw Pedro Roteta stealing a stereo from his truck in Miami. He pursued Roteta who swung a bag of car stereos at Garcia, according to surveillance video. Garcia then fatally stabbed Roteta, went home, hid the knife, and sold two of the stolen stereos.

A Miami-Dade judge cited the "stand your ground" law in dismissing the case against Garcia.

2011
A Miami mother told her 14-year-old son Jack Davis to "get the gun" when they spotted a man trying to steal their wave runner from their dock, according to 911 calls. The 14-year-old Davis shot and killed Reynaldo Munoz, who the family claimed had threatened them. A former teacher of Munoz said that was impossible because Monuz was deaf and could not speak clearly and communicated through sign language.

Davis was not charged.

2010
Tyrone Anthony Jackson was at a birthday party at his neighbor's house when he got into a verbal altercation with Etti Miezan. Jackson then left the party and returned with a firearm and opened fire in the street, shooting randomly. Miezan was shot in the upper left chest while trying to evade the bullets. Jackson and his wife then left the scene.

Jackson was acquitted on the grounds of self-defense.

2009
Jackson Fleurimon shot and killed Lucus Termitus claiming that Termitus showed up at his Orlando apartment brandishing a gun. Fleurimon's girlfriend told police that Fleurimon shot him because he told him not to "sell dope on my side of the complex.'

Fleurimon was granted immunity under Stand Your Ground.

2009
A neighbor dispute over dogs in Homosassa, Fla. turned deadly when Oscar Delbono shot Shane Huse as Huse's two young children watched from his truck. Witnesses say that Huse had turned to walk away when Delbono fire his gun.

Delbono was not charged with a crime. "It is a tragic, unfortunate set of circumstances that occurred, but given the state of the law there's no criminal prosecution," wrote assistant state attorney Pete Magrino, according to the Citrus Daily.

2009
Tampa neighbors said that Carlos Ibanez, a Seventh Day Adventist, had been acting out, pounding on car windows and apartment doors when Marcos A. Truijillo came out of his house and shot and killed him.

Trujillo was not charged.

2009
Miami's Ernesto Che Vino fired at two Florida Power & Light workers that entered his yard to collect unpaid bills.

The judge tossed out two counts of armed assault and one count of improper exhibition of a firearm, saying that under Stand Your Ground, Vino had reasonable fear for his life.

2008
In Hudson, Anthony Boglino, 64, was in an argument with Haigh Frank Kopain, 36, when he said he felt threatened. He claimed his arthritis prevented him from being able to defend himself, so he shot his pistol, wounding Kopain.

Boglino was acquitted under Stand Your Ground law.

2008
Tavarious China Smith was a drug dealer with multiple arrests who killed a man during an 2008 argument over drug territory in Manatee County. He claimed self-defense and went free. Less than three years later, he was back in front of prosecutors for a different homicide, this one the result of a shoot-out outside a nightclub. Smith once again went free by claiming stand your ground.

2007
Michael Palmer and Timothy McTigue got into a fight in Rivera Beach, during which McTigue claimed Palmer tried to drown him. The two ended up in the water and fought for about 30 seconds and McTigue fatally shot Palmer in the back of the head as the unarmed, younger man was pushing himself up onto a floating dock.

McTigue was acquitted under Stand Your Ground law.

2006
Kenneth Allen was upset that Clearwater neighbor Jason Rosenbloom had placed 8 rather than the allowed 6 trash bags on their curb. The two men got into a verbal dispute. As Rosenbloom approached, Allen shot him once in the stomach and once in the chest, claiming Rosenbloom had tried to enter his home.

Allen was not charged, police believing his self-defense claims. "Had it been a year and a half ago, he could have been arrested for attempted murder,” Rosenbloom said of how the then-new Stand Your Ground law affected the case.

That's your thing. Seen it quite a bit. If you disagree you state your case and top it off with an insult.

Let me throw out the most extreme example for why I think it's a stupid law
laugh.gif
:

A person's in the parking lot of a grocery store loading up his car with groceries after shopping.  An 11 year old homeless kid sprints over and grabs an apple from the cart for his starving little sister and runs off.  The shopper turns and shoots the 11 year old, as would be his right by law.

It's extreme, but you'd be ok with its application there, as it's intended?
This.

Who wants to live in a world were kids get blasted for one simple mistake.
Like I said, the circumstances are different for children. Child Psychology 100. Probably should've mad that clear earlier.

OK... 22 year old homeless adult steals a bottle of water for his sick daughter.

I guess my point is, killing someone over stolen property always seems wrong to me.  Especially when you know who it is committing the theft and as such can just ID him to the authorities -- which is why this law doesn't exist in most other states...

Have you been to a middle school lately.

They got tons of kids in there over 6ft, and some with facial hair. How is a tripper happy idiot going to be able to tell the difference between one of those kids and a adult. Especially if he knows the law will be on his side.

People should not be getting shot over stolen property.

I've been trying to follow along with the trial, I've only been able to watch a little of the live coverage and that was only like 20 minutes of the medical examiner on the stand but I saw a clip of the murderer's fiance on the stand crying as she answered that he told her what happened but never mentioned seeing Jordan or any of the kids with what looked like a weapon.

I also saw him make such insincere comments about how it went down, how he was so polite and forgiving, etc.
eyes.gif

I really just hope prosecution has its **** together and gets the conviction.  As much as I know Zimmerman killed Trayvon unfortunately a big part of that trial was how poorly it was handled.

Question...I swear I read or maybe I just hoped/assumed there was security footage from the gas station, has anyone heard anything or seen that?

seems even more open and shut than the trayvon case but nothing surprises me

the sense of entitlement you have to possess to even confront someone about how loud their music is in a public place like a gas station

No I read there were no security cameras.

The reasonable belief burden leaves too much open to interpretation.

I hate when people say things like this.

There's no such thing as "_____ on _____ crime."  It's a racist phrase drummed up by the media when Reagan was getting elected to convince people Blacks are extremely dangerous and in need of control.

90%+ of violent crimes against White people are committed by other White people.  90%+ of violent crimes against Blacks are committed by Blacks.  There is no "Black on Black crime" it's just crime.

First 48 makes it look like n words are running around all crazy because A. there are more minority poor people in those areas they film in and therefore more opportunity to catch minorities committing crime and B. the show's core audience is middle America White people, who don't want to see case after case of redneck killing another redneck over a property dispute, or a girlfriend, or drugs. They believe that Blacks are crazy so the show exploits its population and gives its viewers what they want -- "animals" running wild in the zoo.  And people eat that nonsense up, even using the show as evidence that some perceived trend of "Black on Black crime" is somehow worse than grown men gunning down children in cold blood.

We won't even touch on the fact that whenever you hear about a 30-50 year old man killing a teenager because he felt threatened and afraid for his life, the man is almost always White, the teenager a lesser represented ethnic group, and for some odd reason usually unarmed.

It's just something I've observed. You have the same pattern of responding when it comes to controversial matters. Sarcasm, insults, etc.

I hope you don't have similar social skills in the real world. Not being able to hold a conversation without slinging insults is not good. Not trying to be a D, but you should work on it.

Yes, closing arguments currently.  The jury still have to get instructions from the judge so it's possible that the jury deliberates today but I doubt it.
