I'd imagine this is more for next year. Drew at short, Prado and second and spend on the corner OF spot. Who knows :lol: I'm curious to see how this team performs.

I would say you have to eat A-Rod deal and keep Headley. A-Rod is just too much of a headache for 1/4 of A-Rod production and the huge injury risk.

If Headley - Drew - Prado is your 7-8-9 in whatever order, you're in great shape.


Perhaps chase a RH Power Bat for RF. Nelson Cruz on a 2-3 year deal. Around average fielding. Next to Gardner & Ellsbury, it will be much easier.

Re-sign D-Rob of course.


Use some prospects to go after the best pitcher you can get. Then chase a top name pitching Free Agent.

I can't give Cruz a 3 year deal man, I'm sorry :lol: this screams contract year and with him he's at risk for another suspension or at the very least a hammy injury. I wouldn't feel comfortable with that.

I forgot about Headley but yea, I'm guessing he'd be 3rd next year.

I'm with you on Cruz about 3 years being meh. But I'm illustrating he wouldn't take a 5-6 year commitment. Could always pay big upfront and vested option for games played or production. Or go in house with an OF. Same with Drew & Headley. Who won't get long term deals. Only a few years to keep them.

Also there isn't much Power in the OF group this year.

So help me god if we bring A-Rod back though..

I don't think prospects was the reason they didn't acquire Byrd. From what I've read they didn't want to add his $8M salary for next year and $8M option for 2016. But then again they added Prado with 2 years and $22M left on his contract.
 
Prado's flexibility probably played into it. He can play 2nd, 3rd and the OF. I'm sure they wanna mix and match between who plays right and who DH's. They want Beltran back out there in a week.
 
I don't want Nelson Cruz, he's on the decline. Started off this year with a bang and is now very quiet. Let some other team overpay him.


I still think Alex is back next year. Gets TV ratings, sells tickets and gets crazy amount of attention by people that hate him.
 
My bad fellas, first time on NT since early this morning before work.

THE ROSTER MOVES

1. Acquire INF Stephen Drew from the Red Sox for INF Kelly Johnson.

2. Acquire UT Martin Prado from the Diamondbacks for prospect 1B/C Pete O’Brien and either cash considerations or a player to be named later.

3. Claim RHP Esmil Rogers off waivers from the Blue Jays.

4. Designate for assignment 2B Brian Roberts.

5. Unconditionally release minor league INF Scott Sizemore off of the 40-man roster.

Well we didn't make a splash at the deadline, but Drew is likely an upgrade for when Jeter needs to sit. Prado might be decent off the bench too. Thought Roberts wouldn't last with us due to long-term injury, but he's just getting the DFA :lol: .

Wish we made for another starter tho...

Prado is supposed to be everyday RF and Drew 2B.

Prado will predominately play right field. Drew will be the new second baseman

Roberts had a problem with fielding ground balls. Drew won't have that problem, just gotta work on teaching him how to play 2B now.
