Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

To each their own but Sosa over Sandberg, no way.

Ryno was great, Dawson, Grace, Maddux, loved all of them.

None of them had the career Sammy did. (albeit, unclear how much was actually just Sammy  )

As a Cub I mean. Maddux clearly had the better career, but as a Cub, Sammy was better than the rest, outside of Ernie Banks probably, whom none of us saw.

I was gonna mention Mark Grace, I really liked him too. Sosa was great at the plate, I mean he either hit a HR or struck out (Kind of like Baez

) but his defense was mediocre at best IMO.

There were many greats before them, but yeah, as you said, I'm taking our time.

^^
Agreed with CP 100%

Don't get me wrong I LOVE Ryno. Every time we play the Phillies I get pissed off at the way the organization denied him a shot at managing the club.......Sveum :smh:

Sandberg
Dawson
Grace
Mad dog
Pryor
Wood

Hell even Luis Gonzales before his Dback days, Henry Rodriguez, Alou, McGriff, Palmero (before he started smanging Rynos wife)

All those guys get mad love and respect from me.....but as a kid and during his heyday Sosa was worth every penny I spent at the park.

He'll probably get you 15 HR's, 25 steals, .350 on base and play the best defensive SS along with Lindor. That's amazing value for a SS.

Sounds like a prototype #2 hitter.

I'm thinking something like

Alcantara
Russell
Bryant
Rizzo
Baez
Soler
Castro
Schwarber
Pitcher

Well, in theory, Alcantara can bat left handed, Rizzo, and Schwarber.

If I have Schwarber batting 8th, I need to split the righty's as best I can . Otherwise, I could try something like

Alcantara
Russell
Rizzo
Bryant
Baez
Soler
Schwarber
Castro
Pitcher

It doesn't space out Bryant/Baez/Soler enough. I love the idea of Bryant/Rizzo/Baez so much more, righty, lefty, righty is just perfect in the heart of the order, with Russell and Soler surrounding that? :x :pimp:

thats a great lineup but i think it will be a big FA signing somewhere in the lineup. i just don't think it will be all home grown talent. but hey i could be wrong

I think the rotation will be the one that is bought more than anything...I can see Scherzer then Price the next year. I hate the notion that they NEED to trade a hitter for a pitcher just because of balance

I agree. I think Scherzer then Price as well.

2016 is really the year I think they try to be "complete". Next year will still have growing pains for Bryant, Soler, Russell, etc.

Am I missing something or why is everyone up in arms about them finishing that game because of the tarp issue? I don't know how many of you are from Illinois but if you listen to the Score (670) on the radio, they (the hosts) were angry this morning about that

Yeah, stupid rule but what is the big deal?

Because the Giants are in playoff contention. That game could hunt them. Who knows. Its very important to the giants that they finish the game. The Giants won the appeal also.

Theo needs to spend some money on Pitching. We cant depend on Chris Bosio to always fix pitchers everyone else have given up on.

I think there is two paths they could follow.

Lester this year, Shark next year. :nerd:
Or Scherzer this year, Price next year.

A righty/lefty combo either way. And honestly, I don't care which. As long as we can get a 1-2 punch, and then fill in the back end with Arrieta, Hendricks, and either Wada, or CJ Edwards, Turner, Straily, Felix, whoever, I'm fine with that, because we'd have 3 guys get close to 200+ innings, and another that could get to 175 in Hendricks, and then a rotating 5th guy for all I care, he won't be used come playoff time anyways.

We can cut Edwin. Trade him for nothing, and pay 95% of his salary, etc.

We moved Dempster, Zambrano, and Soriano, we could move Edwin and his much lower 2 year contract, with ease.

Some news:

Edwin Jackson goes to the DL. :nerd: Which basically just gives us a chance to look at Turner, Felix, Beeler or Straily a little more. :pimp:

Castro is on Bereavement, apparently a cousin and some friends of his were killed in an accident in the DR. :frown:

On a brighter note, Addison Russell homered for the 3rd straight day, to straight away Center.
And Kris Bryant hit #41, a BOMB to straight away Center. :pimp:

We need to trade Jackson for a Young minor league pitcher with major upside.
