Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

Kris Bryant led Cubs in BA (.425), HR's (9) and tied with Soler for RBI's (15) this spring

Soler hit in 16 of the 18 games he played in. :smh:

Getting a glimpse why this will still be a year or so away.

Moving runners. Making contact. Fielding. All stuff that Maddon will develop over time.

The Cardinals are great at all of those things.

Patience required. Some days we'll look great, other days will be ugly.

Sucks to lose an opener of course, but still love what I see.

First, Coghlan hit a BOMB that died at the track. Early April Wrigley for ya. Coulda been 3-2 right there.

Second, the pen was FILTHY. Let Lester build up his strength, he'll be fine.

Bats were quiet, but we all know the thunder that's coming.

All about growing and developing still. 81 wins. That's the mark to aim for.

A short list of players that Theo may look into either during the trade deadline this year, or preferably after the year as free agents.

David Price, LP, 30 next year
Jordan Zimmermann, RP, 29
Johnny Cueto, RP, 30
Jeff Samardzija, RP, 31
Doug Fister, RP, 32
Mat Latos, RP, 28
Hisashi Iwakuma, RP, 35

Also, possible that Cole Hamels, LP, 32 could be traded, or
Zack Greinke, RP, 32 could opt out of his deal and become a FA.

Jason Heyward, OF, 26 is also someone the Cubs have been linked to in terms of pursuit, but I don't know about that one. Sounds like just rumors to me.

Idea being, take someone from this list, add him to Lester, Arietta, Hendricks, and maybe CJ Edwards, and you see your staff for the next 3-4 years.

I hear ya. But it's been 100+ years. 1-2 more won't hurt.

The franchise finally has a true, clear, direction. An actual plan for sustained success. A complete business model. Not just throwing money at 1-2 players hopin for a miracle.

Just need time for Theo/Maddon to get all the pieces to fit.

They've done it before, they'll do it again.

i thought tonight game was delayed? didn't know it was post pone

btw David Price looked good yesterday.
