Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

damn cubbies....its like night and day.....whats goin on with this staff all of a sudden...its like that sweep by the cards got the team shook

Injuries got us off key. Gotta battle thru it. Lackey been on point for 7-8 weeks, due for a bad one. Gotta fight thru it.

Worst week in the Theo era. :smh:

Sweep the Pirates, 47-20, chance to BURY the Cardinals.

We go 1-6 and now 48-26. :x

Starters, pen, offense and defense all poor this week. :smh:

No longer the best record in baseball, after having like a 5 game lead. :smh:

14 K's today (and counting in the 9th)

Pathetic. :smh:

Rangers, Giants go for 50th win of season tonight. None of last 9 teams to reach 50 1st made World Series (last: 2006 Tigers) @EliasSports

This made me chuckle. We were so far out ahead, winning 50 first seemed a no brainer, now it looks almost like they didn't want to be first.

Whatever happens, Jake needs to get us back on track, and Lester needs to follow with a solid start of his own tomorrow. Please make me forget last week. :smh:

Well, we put up 2 in the first, with Jake pitching, but we should have had a bigger inning than just 2 with that start. Montero swinging twice at a pitcher who couldn't throw strikes is really stupid situational baseball. :smh:

But hopefully they can tack on later, and Jake can hold them down.

And just like that, Jake gives them back.

Kris Bryant 5-5 3 Homers, 2 Doubles, 4 runs scored, 6 RBI. :wow: :pimp:

Rizzo follows with one of his own.

All our worry, all our concern, all our stress, and Jake is 12-2 with a 2.10 ERA. We act like he's Clayton Richard.

Arrieta's home run came on a 99 mph fastball. Opposite field. :wow:

Bryant sets a Cub record with 16 total bases. First player in MLB history to hit 3 homers and 2 doubles in the same game. Youngest Cub in history to hit 3 homers, besting Ernie Banks by 10 days.

Heyward had a couple knocks, Rizzo hit a mammoth bomb, Contreras, Almora, and Baez all with base hits.

Oh, and Eloy Jimenez was MVP of his All Star game, Dan Vogelbach has homered three straight days and Ian Happ is RAKING. So, yeah, more talent still growing on the farm.

And LaStella, Soler, and Fowler should all be back by 4th of July.

For comparisons sake, at this time last year, Jake was 7-5 with a 2.94 ERA.

That said, his command isn't sharp enough. Bosio/Montero/Jake need to get it dialed in for the second half. We won't get another half like last year, where he pitched 18 games and gave up just 13 earned runs.  But he can and should still be stronger for the last part of the season, and hopefully he can get a start off late in September to give him some extra rest.

8 no hit innings from worst bullpen in MLB. (Reds)

No hits. Almost entire 9 inning game. From greasefire pen. :smh:
