In a couple of years we will be sitting atop the NL Central....and this thread will flourish with a lot of new faces.

With the confidence of the team winning/being competitive. It can carry over to next season. a good off season/ and we can be contending for a wildcard spot in 2015 at least. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the young Cubs flourish. Whatever pick we end up with in the draft. "I'm sure its gonna be a top 15 pick." Let's hope Theo get another stud.

BTW This is my 700 post. Congrats to me. HAHA

I will admit, they are a lot of fun to watch lately. I still think they are years away from getting close to the play offs but the more research I've done about the farm and such, I'm slowing spinning my tune. I'll admit, as much as I love the Cubs, I haven't watch but maybe a full dozen games the last couple years. I've watched more this years alone then the last couple years.

I've turned down SO many sets of free (and good seats) tickets but maybe next year, I'll start checking out a few games. Most of these young cats are fun to watch, that's for sure.

Repp'ed for that 700th post! "We all get rep!!" :lol

After tonight, Cubs 2014 draft picks have a 2.87 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 193 K/43 BB over 191.2 IP. Great haul of HS, college and LHP.

Dully noted. :Nthat

With that said, just for sake of this thread, what's everyone's thoughts on moving the Cubs outta Wrigley? I personally feel it would be a great move if they could build a park in the suburbs similar to what the Brewery's did. Easy parking, tail gating, easy on and off the interstate, etc.  That stadium is amazing. And for sake of argument, I couldn't care less about the economical downfall Chicago itself would face. And obviously keep Wrigley going and maintained, maybe have some throw back games there.

You guys wanna hear somethin funny?

In this season that we are "throwing away" to trade Shark, Hammel, Barney, Nate, Russell and Benifacio, etc, while growing these rookies, random pitchers out of nowhere, waiver wire pickups, all that......

Y'all realize we only 10 games outta the wild card? nerd.gif

Crazy how Theo and Jed managed to put together this patchwork rotation with some solid arms out of nowhere, I don't think they get enough credit for this.

Yeeeaahhhh I'm gonna have to say no to that one. It's not that I wouldn't love to have new amenities like new bathroom stalls laugh.gif, or a nice parking lot (hate getting gouged by the local store owners to park at their lots) but Wrigley is perfectly located where it's at. Surrounded by bars and clubs and just a few minutes from the lake and downtown.

They actually have a pretty nice remodeling plan with new score boards and new grandstands for the bleachers and the city even caved in a bit, but it's the rooftop owners that are complicating the situation a bit.

Modernized, but still with the classic look and feel. Sucks for the rooftops, and won't be the same without the bullpens down the side, but hopefully will start to help the team and invite players to want to be there as they start turning the corner in the next year or two. pimp.gif

The Yankees did it. Half the reason I don't like going to Cubs game is because no matter you take the train or drive, it's a HUGE pain in the ***. If it was easily accessible, I think they would draw more people in during a normal season. Once they start getting good and tickets go up a billion percent, then I guess it wouldn't matter. But I'd be all for them moving them outta the City.

Yeah, I seen that rendition before and it looks dope. As I said, I don't care about the collapse of all the bars and restaurants, I was strictly speaking a nice new park. I love Wrigley but I don't have absolutely so sentimental value towards it.

Man, some of my most fondest memories were at Wrigley.
Back in the Sosa era me and my buddies would ditch school and pay our local hobo a few bucks to buy us some pints and cases of beers. We used to get drunk, and go buy bleacher tickets for like 15 bucks after the 3rd-4th inning and sneak in the pints and get hammered nthat.gif

It was kinda messed up that we all started drinking at such an early age but you couldn't tells us nothing in those times.

Till this day when the question comes up "who's the greatest player you ever saw?" Sosa is still my answer. That man deserves to have his number retired by the Cubs.

Yeah, it bothers me that we haven't taken care of Sosa more and Junior Lake wears his number. mean.gif

Regardless of whatever went down, that dude carried the franchise for over a decade and gave us a ton of memories, good and bad. laugh.gif

Juiced or not, no one had a stretch like he did for those 4 years. Purely absurd what he did.

Ryno was great, Dawson, Grace, Maddux, loved all of them.

None of them had the career Sammy did. (albeit, unclear how much was actually just Sammy laugh.gif )

As a Cub I mean. Maddux clearly had the better career, but as a Cub, Sammy was better than the rest, outside of Ernie Banks probably, whom none of us saw.

I was gonna mention Mark Grace, I really liked him too. Sosa was great at the plate, I mean he either hit a HR or struck out (Kind of like Baez :lol) but his defense was mediocre at best IMO.

There were many greats before them, but yeah, as you said, I'm taking our time.

Agreed with CP 100%

Don't get me wrong I LOVE Ryno. Every time we play the Phillies I get pissed off at the way the organization denied him a shot at managing the club.......Sveum mean.gif

Sandberg
Dawson
Grace
Mad dog
Pryor
Wood

Hell even Luis Gonzales before his Dback days, Henry Rodriguez, Alou, McGriff, Palmero (before he started smanging Rynos wife) laugh.gif

All those guys get mad love and respect from me.....but as a kid and during his heyday Sosa was worth every penny I spent at the park.

He'll probably get you 15 HR's, 25 steals, .350 on base and play the best defensive SS along with Lindor. That's amazing value for a SS.

Sounds like a prototype #2 hitter.

I'm thinking something like

Alcantara
Russell
Bryant
Rizzo
Baez
Soler
Castro
Schwarber
Pitcher

I'd probably put Rizzo 3rd but that's the definition of splitting hairs laugh.gif

Well, in theory, Alcantara can bat left handed, Rizzo, and Schwarber.

If I have Schwarber batting 8th, I need to split the righty's as best I can . Otherwise, I could try something like

Alcantara
Russell
Rizzo
Bryant
Baez
Soler
Schwarber
Castro
Pitcher

It doesn't space out Bryant/Baez/Soler enough. I love the idea of Bryant/Rizzo/Baez so much more, righty, lefty, righty is just perfect in the heart of the order, with Russell and Soler surrounding that? sick.gifpimp.gif

I think the rotation will be the one that is bought more than anything...I can see Scherzer then Price the next year. I hate the notion that they NEED to trade a hitter for a pitcher just because of balance laugh.gif
post #388 of 3742
Thread Starter
I agree. I think Scherzer then Price as well.

2016 is really the year I think they try to be "complete". Next year will still have growing pains for Bryant, Soler, Russell, etc.

Am I missing something or why is everyone up in arms about them finishing that game because of the tarp issue? I don't know how many of you are from Illinois but if you listen to the Score (670) on the radio, they (the hosts) were angry this morning about that :lol

Yeah, stupid rule but what is the big deal?

Because the Giants are in playoff contention. That game could hunt them. Who knows. Its very important to the giants that they finish the game. The Giants won the appeal also.
