Funny how just a year ago I was warned for saying "Ben Barra" and now I see it all over this thread.

Either that or dudes would come in all angry trying to "expose" him.. regardless, he got what he wanted from NT which was attention and publicity. There was no downside to him posting on here because every time he did, even though a few people would try to call him out the vast majority were on his ****

How is that using him? I went to a few of those summits, we paid our own tickets though, son threw in some LRG **** for free. I mean, he did get our name on the board, that was dope, don't know if he paid for that or how much,

Everybody has this negative thought(s) about dude, of course some of this stuff he says is out there, fables, and what not, but he's been cool as hell to me. Always been stand up whenever I see him, even got me into a few clubs too :lol:.

I take what he says with a grain of salt, but he does hustle hard, gotta give credit on that. He's always hustlin for that green :smokin

Here's the story with this:  years ago, some user (and I'm sorry to have forgotten your name) sent me a PM to ask if it would be okay for him to have a plaque made, which he wanted to present to Ben in appreciation for his help with a "summit" event or something.  We're protective of our logos (you have to be, in order to maintain the trademark), so I appreciated that he requested our permission.  

Since it wasn't something that was going to be sold, and it was to be made clear that this was just a one-off that he and a few others wanted to give to Ben as a gift, I told him I didn't mind and sent him a medium-res logo image he could use.  

It was a small favor, but the cost was negligible (since the user was producing the plaque), risks were minimal, and, if it made this group of users happy, I was glad to do it.

It is what it is.  Was he using NikeTalk's name to promote LRG stuff via an unofficial "NikeTalk Summit?"  That's a cynical interpretation.  I assumed he just had free promo-stuff from the brand lying around and decided to give it to kids who'd appreciate it - and clearly they did.  They wanted to thank him and to use the logo on the present.  No big deal.  Both the "award" and the event were entirely fan-driven.  If our fellow members make new friends through the site, I think that's great.  Though we're concerned about safety and can't vouch for any particular event, I'm always pleased to hear about one that goes well.  I heard that a number of users attended a Dodgers game together and a had a great time.  If Ben helped make that happen, kudos to him.  

As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe noted,  "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him."  If Ben sincerely wasn't looking to accomplish anything other than help the "summit" attendees have a great time, that's commendable.

That's completely false.  HoldenMichael is still a valued member of the staff.  Like many of the old timers, he has a career and a family to worry about and doesn't have as much time to spend here as he once did.  

Time has a way of changing our priorities.  If buying the latest sneakers is still at the top of your list once you've reached your mid-thirties, something's wrong. 

I can't remember a single problem with HoldenMichael.  He was as dedicated and professional as any volunteer we've ever seen.  Over the years, he gave an incredible amount to the community and he never asked for anything in return.  He wasn't driven by an intense desire to be liked or to be the center of attention.  He was willing to make the "unpopular" call without hesitation, because that's what the rules required and that's what would help keep our community friendly and respectful.

Let's be real, that's on some racist "Charlie Chan" stuff.  We're not allowing that and we never have.  

As for NikeTalk "using" Ben... I didn't see the original comments and I don't really care to.  I don't care if he's on youtube regaling people with stories about how he, Jay Z, and Leonardo DiCaprio traveled into Nelson C's dreams in 1999 and gave him the idea for NikeTalk.  I trust everyone to know better than to take that seriously.

If I were upset about someone trying to use our forums to get attention, I think the absolute last thing I'd want to do would be to create a forum topic about it to focus still more attention on them.  It's silly to even take the bait. 

It would be unfortunate if he somehow feels mistreated, but I can't imagine how we "used" him in any way.  Everything he posted here was voluntary and we certainly weren't going around promoting his posts or his "presence" on our forums.  (The exact opposite is probably true, if you consider how many times we banned him for breaking our forum rules.)

If there's a "beef" here, it's completely one-sided.  We have nothing against Ben.  As with any member, I hope he's enjoyed his time here and I wish him well.

It hasn't been edited out since we left Yuku. HT doesn't exist anymore basically so I doubt the mods care if people talk about it. Those days were easily the pinnacle of my time here. Ever since the move I noticed I rarely post or lurk anymore.
 
^ Are y'all talkin about JRose? That's the only mod I remember getting his privileges taken away.
