Why are the Jordan 11's the most popular out of all the Jordan shoe models? they get the most fakes

I'm old and I purchased every OG 11 mostly because of my MJ fandom. However when they originally released they were widely thought of as too shiny and flashy and very weird. A lot like how the newer models are received today. They were widely produced easy to get and sat on shelves for a loong time. To be honest I'm not sure where the Hype started but even retros in 2001 were easy to get.
That's is a damn good question. Where did all the hype come from? People act like zombies for a pair of 11's or any other release for that matter.

Space jam Jordans

bump, sorry took a little break from this site, but ya as for the Jordan 11's, I feel from now on they should be an online release only every Christmas whenever they get released, or if they continue to do in-store raffles, those that win the raffle, just have the shoes delivered by mail to the persons house instead of picking them up in person.

You'd have to had been there in 1995-1996. No other way to explain it.

I think this is a great question. I tend to pass on 11's aside from the Columbias and various PEs, but I don't get it.

My thoughts exactly

I am 32 and remember when these dropped. This was the first Jordan in the Dallas area, that I remember having a “release date”. I used to go to red bird or town east malls and purchase Jordans with no problem. This is back when Jordans used to release during the week. I remember my dad taking me from store to store looking for a pair the day after they released. The only shoe we found was at JC Penny, Town East mall in a size 14. The Concords sold well, but they were still available the Saturday after they released. In 90’s and early 2000’s Jordans just were not that sought after. Jordans were worn primarily by Jordan/Bulls fans. They were not “must have item” like they are now. People had no problem calling Jordans ugly and overpriced.  Now all that has changed. I have been in line now and stood next to people who didn’t even know what the shoe looked like. They just knew they were the “new jordans”  The BRED 11 was a shoe that a lot of people thought looked cool. So they brought in a different demographic of shoe buyers. I remember wearing the 5, 6, 12, 13, and 14 as a kid. I would get comments like “why did you get those ugly Jordans”.

6,7,8,9,10,12,13,14,18>>>>11

1,3,4,15<< 11

2,5,16,17,19,20,21= 11

IMO.

line ends at 21 as far as I'm concerned cause it's all doo doo butter from 22 on.

I think they are so popular and will continue to be with each generation just because of the patent leather pattern. It's a very unique look for the average person, a very universally "cool" shiny wavy pattern to the shoes. Personally doesn't make me go crazy but I have always liked them. Nothing I will pay 200+ for in the future, that's for sure.

Personally I think the 3s and the 6s have the best "look" and silhouette.

But the 11 is pretty sleek too.

I think the reason that the 11s have the most hype because they don't come out that often.

was never really a fan..if I were to cop a pair it would b the breds..but def not on my must have list

I thought long and hard about this ... it REDEFINED what you could do or have on a shoe. And the shoe that redefined the industry was worn by a man who REDEFINED what a perfect basketball player was and a team who is considered the greatest ever.

A great deal of it is just perfect timing and going with what was felt. Had Jordan not felt he needed to prove he was "back", the Bulls and MJ would have never reached the heights they did that year and the "like Mike" status would have taken a hit. If Tinker didn't go with his gut and make something ambitious (who else had patent leather on a shoe or that lacing system?) It wouldn't have caught peoples attention.

People were slow to gravitate towards it, but it challenged the consumer and then they loved it. Just like Andre 3000's "Hey Ya" ... song was WHACK... at first. Then EVERYONE was on it... you had to alter the way you heard the song. The same way the XI altered the way we looked at shoes.

I said all of that to say this... it was God's perfect storm and the combination of MJ himself, the Bulls 72 win season and becoming "ROCK STARS" (they really were, you had to be there), silencing doubters, dominating, and a shoe that you could "wear with a tuxedo"? Perfect storm. Plus the clear gum rubber soles was a first (100 % clear outsole, can't count the V's and the VI's)

(side note: Really dug the concords back when I was in the 7th grade (1995-1996), LOVED the columbias, HATED the black/reds but then they grew on me too)

I think it all depends on the person too. If we're talking within the "sneaker community" hype seems to come from availability. I remember camping for the Space Jams in an outdoor mall, and sure there was hype, but seems like nothing compared to what it's been since the Concords dropped. It's all supply and demand. They only come out once a year (pretty much every other model gets 3 or 4 releases per year when they come out- though the 11 low is getting some love this year). The holidays have somethin to do with it also- end of they year people tryin to get gifts or spend the last of their money or whatever. Young kids look at them and even to this day, theres something just "different" about 11s- to me its in the same category as foams on that point- I'd still take 11s or OG colorway foams over most of the stuff that comes out now just because they stand the test of time.

11s also seem to bring in people who have nothing to do with sneakers on a regular basis also- I can't tell you how many times people asked me at work last year what the deal was with the new "blue space jams" (admittedly I wear Js to work every day- they probably knew I'd know) and if i could help them out for their kids or whatever. Something about the patent leather and the mesh is just eye catching people always look..

just my .02

Exactly.

the XI is my fav shoe because it was actually the first shoe i fell in love with in 8th grade in 96 when i saw the black/red colorway (which is my fav colorway of the XI) and have been watching them since but i really only loved the 11,12 and 13 growing up with the OGs and i loved most of the other bulls players shoes as well, loved the pippens (olympic more uptempos were my fav and i had them) and the Ndestrukt is my 2nd fav shoe ever and i am patiently waiting for them to retro properly so i can retire. i want guns now lol but it was cuz of the GOAT and the bulls in general such an amazing team for so many years, oh and if mike tyson came out with a sweet shoe from nike i would have had those as well.

Back in 1995 I passed on them for the Air Max Penny 1's.
I even walked in at footaction in the evening and they still had my size. The good ol days!

Exactly what made it one of my favorites as well. When MJ first stepped on the court in this game against the MONSTARS (haha) it had me like

as a little kid.......had to have them.

If Ndestrukts came out with the OG look to them i would buy all OG colorways probably, i remember getting them for $89.99 in 96 and breaking necks with them, if they released now they will be $140 i bet!
