Why are the Jordan 11's the most popular out of all the Jordan shoe models? they get the most fakes

Personally, XI's are an overrated shoe to me. I grew up in the 90's as an 80's baby and remember every Air Jordan shoe from the IV's on. The XI's to me are too flashy, and although I do like this model a lot, it would not make my top 5 simply because I prefer more utilitarian styled sneakers with just basic leathers, along with basic/flashy colors...(example: Jordan 1's, Jordan 3's, Jordan 4's, Jordan 5 grapes, etc...) The Concords are probably the "cleanest" Air Jordan shoe of all time, but they look terrible beat....the mesh yellows, the soles yellow, and they get dingy quick. You can wear a very worn pair of Jordan 1's for example and not feel as bad about the condition of the shoe simply because they have more of a utilitarian appeal to them since they are so simple and basic...XI's are a great shoe, but they are not an everyday shoe for me and I own several pairs of this model including 2 OG pairs.

space jam, magazine ads (the whole era with these style ads), ahmad rashad on NBC, jordan come back, they look really awesome,a true game changer..etc

It could also have to do with what he accomplished in that shoe the greatest season ever by a NBA team 72-10

Other very popular Air Jordan shoe models, if they had an annual Christmas release like the 11's, which other models are also likely to start riots, stampedes, and fights like the 11's? Which other Jordan models are close to the 11's level of popularity? I hear the 12's and 13's are kinda close, what about the 1's?

Nostalgia for the older folks set the standard for the 11's back in 2000-2001 when they first retro'd. Years go by, the younger generation picked up on the hype & it was just a snowball effect.

I remember all the Jordan releases starting with the 3's, but the 5's are my favorite. The 11's were at the peak of Jordan's career, 72 win season, Space Jam, and like everyone said he was everywhere. I remember a few years ago when all they hype hit Houston for Christmas, and I had no idea what the big deal was other than it was Jordan's. There is honestly no reason I can think of other than the explosion of social media built up alot of hype for the Jordan's everyone wanted for Christmas. Well now that I think about it every release around Christmas, always had alot of hype and sell outs. That is why the 5's are my favorite, my mom got them for me that Christmas, the White 23's and we thought they would all be sold out. Hot OG Jordan's usually dropped on Christmas back then because kids wanted them on their Christmas list.

Had to bump this thread again in regards to these incidents that happened over the recent release of the Jordan XI Legend Blue, seriously, Jordan Brand has got to do something about this god damn it!!!!!, it's crazy, stupid, ******ed on how far people will go just for shoes.

^long overdue, agreed. The Legend Blues grossed over $80,000,000 in one weekend. Slim chance of anything changing. Near zero marketing went into this shoe, what a HUGE net profit. ONE shoe, No Marketing and a Retired basketball player. That's putrid sick. No other athlete or brand comes closes to replicating that kind of success.

In 95, high schoolers seemed more excited about the Air Pennys and his commercial appeal. The Concords took awhile to win people over, they sat on the shelves. The Columbias were on par, but the Breds started taking off.

In 2001, the retro XI's retailed at $125 and were readily available 2 or 3 weeks after release. Space Jams pushed faster than Concords and the Cool Greys took off.
It's hard to believe that Nike released 10 colorways of XIs in 2001. But again, I'm pretty sure one colorway didn't net them $80,000,000.

U gotta be atleast 30+ to understand. I was 12 and had plenty of as a youngsta, but when them bred 11s drop the shoe game was over! There will never be another shoe with as much respect as the OG 11s.

This man is correct! It was the only pair of Jordan's I was never got as a kid, every OG pair since the original 4s I was able to go and purchase no problem but the Bred 11s were gone right away! Still remember being pissed I didn't ditch first period when all the kids walked in late wearing em. These really marked a turning point in jordans for me.

Personal favorite Jordans are the 13s .

I thought long and hard about this ... it REDEFINED what you could do or have on a shoe. And the shoe that redefined the industry was worn by a man who REDEFINED what a perfect basketball player was and a team who is considered the greatest ever.

A great deal of it is just perfect timing and going with what was felt. Had Jordan not felt he needed to prove he was "back", the Bulls and MJ would have never reached the heights they did that year and the "like Mike" status would have taken a hit. If Tinker didn't go with his gut and make something ambitious (who else had patent leather on a shoe or that lacing system?) It wouldn't have caught peoples attention.

People were slow to gravitate towards it, but it challenged the consumer and then they loved it. Just like Andre 3000's "Hey Ya" ... song was WHACK... at first. Then EVERYONE was on it... you had to alter the way you heard the song. The same way the XI altered the way we looked at shoes.

I said all of that to say this... it was God's perfect storm and the combination of MJ himself, the Bulls 72 win season and becoming "ROCK STARS" (they really were, you had to be there), silencing doubters, dominating, and a shoe that you could "wear with a tuxedo"? Perfect storm. Plus the clear gum rubber soles was a first (100 % clear outsole, can't count the V's and the VI's)

(side note: Really dug the concords back when I was in the 7th grade (1995-1996), LOVED the columbias, HATED the black/reds but then they grew on me too)
Repped.

theres a lot of reasons but to name a few this was the shoe that jordan wore when he came back so it had some type of significance... not only that but when it came out it was one of the most innovative shoes of all time... and the model itself looks great and can be worn on and off the court... everything about the shoe is sick from the material to the jumpman jordan on the tongue and the back tab.... cant forget about that smooth patent leather either

This. Funny thing is when they first dropped, nobody really liked them. Everybody said they looked liked the shoes band members wore or patent leather dress shoes. 9-11 were considered ugly. Only ones people sort of like was thae black/red XI. Even the retros in 2000 sat for awhile. That dmp pack brought life back into the 11 model, then the cdp pack. The concord release was the closest to the dmp so everybody went and copped.

Extremely futuristic, They looked like no other shoe out there at the time back in 1996, and that still holds true today.
I was thinking the exact same thing. If you look at the Air Jordan line all the way up to the 11, they look like regular sneakers...nothing totally wild (maybe the VIIIs). Then the XI comes on the scene, and damn what a crazy shoe. When I was a kid, I used to think that sole was some alien footprint or something, it was nothing like I had ever seen. Definitely futuristic and has certainly stood the test of time.
Personally I think the 3s and the 6s have the best "look" and silhouette.

But the 11 is pretty sleek too.

I think the reason that the 11s have the most hype because they don't come out that often.
If someone asked me what model perfectly executes the Air Jordan silhouette, its the Vs. The tongue, lace locks, the asymmetrical cut out below the achilles tendon, just the entire mold of the shoe to me is so iconic (I love that it was modeled after a P-51 Mustang fighter plane). I think the Black Tongue FR really sets it off, but I'll give a nod to the reflective 3M tongue. I wouldn't say its my favorite AJ ever though.

I think the IIIs overall look the best on feet, pictures can't do them justice, really a timeless shoe. I don't really like the design of the VIs but as a "basketball" shoe its dope and also the tiny details that nod to Porsche.

Wait are you saying that the Jordan 1-10 just look like regular sneakers? You must be under 30. The og Jordan's in the 80's and 90's were nothing like any other shoes out during their time. British knights used similar reptile designs like the jordan 2 and lotto and troop did some different things, but no other shoe and I mean no other shoe went design crazy like jordans and was innovative. Elephant print, netting, reflective tongues, reflective side panels, totally different color schemes (military blue, grapes, carmines, color blocking on 7's and 8's) were just far out from the regular shoes during that period. Not to mention, Jordans broke the $100 barrier during the time no shoe was that much. A $100 shoe then was like how $300 resell shoe is now:x People was still getting robbed and killed for their Jordans in those times. So nothing is new today with that news

The Jordan 11 is a staple no doubt, but really the 3 was what told the world,, 'These aint ur average sneakers!!' Those are what set it off .. After that Js were the image of innovation in the shoe game.

can you stop mentioning the 1s they are a joke compared to the 11s... they dont even look like jordans they look like glorified dunks that are considered jordans... besides them being the first jordan i dont see the appeal... the design is nothing special and the comfort alone sucks... i have several pairs so dont even say im hating because i actually like the 1s but to say they are top 5 is overrating the shoe in general...in no particular order the top 5 jordans "in my opinion" are 3,4,5,6, 11s... and i agree the 3s could be considered the best jordan of all time... it looks great on the court and casual too... when you wear it with jeans it blends in so well it doesn't even look like basketball shoes...

If they were any brand...even a high designer brand.... and came out now or in 96 they would be amazing.

Cant say that about alot of sneakers.

And nowadays with so many cws...gimicks etc.

Basically 2 colors besides the sole.
black..white...so simple.

Those two shoes brought Nike back to life in my opinion. The jordan 9-10 was not received well, especially with the toe cap on the 10. I remember when word spread that the royal foam was releasing for $180......unheard of for a sneaker....especially not named a Jordan. Shockwaves were sent across the nation. Then.... Mike Bibby debuted the foamposite during the 1997 Ncaa Final Four when he was with the Arizona Wildcats. GAMEOVER! Saved two of my checks while I was working during my high school years so I could cop.

Had a lot to do with his first retirement. If he hadn't retired it would have been different.
