Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios Find Their 'Spider-Man' Star and Director

Tom Holland Cast as the Web-Slinger, Jon Watts to Direct the Next Spider-Man Adventure,

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017. The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of "Cop Car," the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

I really want Coulson to appear in the Spiderman film like how they did with him in the cartoon. He could be somewhat of a mentor to  young Peter.

I wonder if Marvels involvement with Sony means that Spideys villains can crossover as well. Symbiote Avengers :wow: :pimp:

He looks young. Can definitely play a high school freshman or maybe an 8th grader if they want.

New spider-man is 5'6...

I was 5'6 in 7th grade..

I will never be 5'6

#shortlife

This new dude looks like he can be a Harry Osborn, not a Peter.

Man the rest of the Avengers cast is very tall. The girls are going to be the same height or taller. This is going to look weird.

*edit

Nvm they'll just have him stand next to RDJ and Renner lol

I'm Asian so I round up and say i'm 5'7. It says it on my driver's license so it must be true.

Anything related to Spider-Man is now associated with the MCU. All his villains will appear eventually.

Don't expect Spidey to have a big role in CW, as Varity states:

"Spider-Man is only expected to have a cameo in 'Captain America: Civil War,' so there wasn’t a rush to make a decision since they would only be shooting for about a week."

Though this report of Marvel flying each contenders to the CW set to test with the actors he will have a scene with, seems like a lot of work for a small cameo? Might be a testing to see how the wisecracks work with Stark?

Variety has an interesting piece up which reveals more details about how Marvel and Sony went about choosing Tom Holland to play the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man. While they initially met with unknowns between the ages of 14 - 18, the search was apparently widened to those with a proven track record when those underwhelmed, hence why Asa Butterfield was a serious contender for a while. Butterfield, Holland, Charlie Rowe and Matthew Lintz were all flown out to the set of Captain America: Civil War to test with the actors they will be working with in that movie.

What do you guys think Peter Parker's cameo will be? You think he'll be in his Spider suit?
