WELCOME TO THE MARVEL MULTIVERSE -*RIP STAN LEE & Boseman* - XMEN97 release 3/20

Rumours about The Tinkerer showing up in Spider-Man: Homecoming have been doing the rounds for a while now, but that was confirmed earlier this week when Michael Chernus landed the role. We heard a while back that he uses recovered Chitauri tech to outfit The Vulture with his wings, and now a new report from Heroic Hollywood seemingly confirms that and more about this take on the villain.

Apparently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Tinkerer was fired by Tony Stark a few years back and sets out to prove that Iron Man made a mistake by letting him go. As a result, he'll be creating tech for both The Vulture and Shocker, something which is sure to cause a problem for the young Peter Parker.

There's really not that much here we couldn't have just guessed, but it's still very interesting. The Tinkerer having ties to Stark goes a long way in justifying Robert Downey Jr.'s presence in Spider-Man: Homecoming, while creating a big bad of sorts who supplies bad guys with tech does away with the need for overly complicated origin stories which plagued some previous Spider-Man movies...

That's a really good idea to tie the Spidey reboot into the MCU. The Iron Man cameo makes more sense this way too. (Not that Spidey needs Iron Man for his movie to do numbers.)

Oscorp could've easily substituted and they coulda had RDJ trying to find out what's going on with this rival company using chitauri tech...

That's a good way to continue tying the films together, makes sense, and already lines up with what we've seen earlier in the franchise anyways.

Why have Tony even more involved with the plot?

Its a Spidey movie.

Pretty obvious why they're setting up strong ties to the MCU.

Good choice.

Any word on who's playing Norman + Mary Jane? I think those are the remaining casting?

No word as far as that casting goes. Not really confirmed that Mary Jane will be in it.
Hope they aren't for this first flick.

Have a gut feeling they're gonna cast Bella Thorne as MJ in a small cameo at the end of Homecoming

That's exactly what I'm saying though. Did the Tinkerer really have to be a Stark Industries employee when there's another tech/genetics giant in Peter's world. RDJ could pop up regardless...

The leaked script says Toomes was an Oscorp employee

The Tinkerer didn't have to be anything.

They made him a former SI employee to establish ties to the MCU.

They didn't make him an Oscorp employee cuz they're not establishing Osborn or his presence in that way. There's a million other ways to hint at the existence of Osborn directly or as an Easter egg.

In that sense it's not just about Peter's world. Its Peter's world existing within the MCU.
