The Oakland Athletics 2018 Offseason Season Thread | One and Done Again

I'm glad we're starting off the season against someone other than Seattle. Getting sick of seeing them.

Copped a 24 game pack this year. Can't wait for the season to start.

I keep saying this but I really feel we need to add morales or Cruz to make a run in the playoffs. Can we go the distance without them? Sure...if reddick learns to hit, if ces/moss/Donny/coco all get hot at the right time, this team can do it...but I would feel a lot more confident if we could pick up another solid bat for the middle of the lineup.

The 24 pack let's you pick any 24 games, right? I'd be really interested in getting it if that's the case.

Yeah it does. Mainly got it because it gives you the chance to purchase a playoff strip.

BIG NEWS:

Ninth Circuit court trial between San Jose and MLB has been expedited. Oral briefing will be conducted in March. Oral arguments likely in the summer. A decision will be rendered late this year. What this means is that MLB's anti trust exemption is going to tried in court THIS year.

Wow.

Did Josh hit the weight room? looks bigger in the pic. Dude is usually looking Ben Grieve frail.

What are your guys' realistic expectations for Sonny Gray this year?

I'd say 14-16 wins with a 3.00 - 3.20 ERA.

I think the team will monitor his innings to keep him fresh so he may miss out on a couple of wins. Sonny is a great talent and willl be a very good pitcher in the long run but he is still very young so he may go through some ups and downs throughout the year. I really trust our coaching staff though, so he should fair pretty well. Also, I think he will be at his best in bigger games.

And when you said Josh, for a second I thought you were talking about Donny. I was like did this fool really just say Donny is as frail as Grieve?

Reddick can put on whatever weight he wants so long as he doesn't give up any defensive value doing so. I've conceded the guy is likely not going to find his HR power again, but at the moment all his value is in his defense, so he needs to preserve that.

If he can't hit .240-.250 or get to 20 jacks, I don't know if I can deal with him starting all year.

His defense is amazing and he def. saves a lot of runs, but you cannot be a corner OFer and have no pop and .220 batting average on a playoff team (unless the rest of the offense is stacked ).

I actually think he can get 20 HRs again, given he had wrist issues last season. Hitting for average is another thing, though. Don't see him being able to hit .260+ over the course of a season. But again, if he hits 20 or more then it's forgiven (along with playing great defense).

This is definitely a make or break year for Reddick, and I am skeptical. I think his confidence took a big hit last year, if he gets off to a slow start :rolleyes

I voted "other' in the poll above, because I think Craig Gentry is going to be very important, mainly because I think Reddick is gonna struggle again...

For Sonny Gray, i'm predicting 14-6 with a 3.20 ERA.

It wouldn't surprise me if Cruz was asking for 10M+ to play in the Coliseum. If that's the case then I'd say no too if I were Billy.

And he'd cost us a draft pick, I think.
