Ok so I know first thing that y'all are gonna say is "why isn't this in the music section"
Illmatic is more than music for real, its a lifestyle, its education. Its a way of living

A lot of people were raised off this album. A young Nas spilled his E&J and Becks pumping heart out onto these tracks and massaged so much flavor and style into this ****.

This album reflected NYC on a whole during this area. I'm talking about piss in project hallways, 10 year olds selling crack, graffiti all over the place. i'm talking about copping gold teeth from Jamaica Coliseum Mall!!..Im talking $1 slices of pizza on Flatbush ave!!..Green BMW 7s riding down the block with the sunroof down and you and your boy sitting on y'all porch drinking quarter waters pointing talking bout "That's my car!"

Im talking about SUNRISE CINEMAS IN GREEN ACRES MALL *flex bomb*
Vintage Ralph, Figaro Chains, Army fatigues

The Album was just a reflection of an era on a whole for real for real

Now we got grown *** men doing the nae nae with pixie stick residue still on the sides of their lips and old taffy taffy stuck between their teeth :smh:

But honestly i was a little kid when this album cane out and wasnt aware of it.

But i feel you on how ppl grow up listening to certain albums

Honestly, i respect this post being here. And respect and agree with everything you said. Illmatic had an effect on mid - 80s, late 80s babies like no other album

Sadly, this thread will probably end up locked rather than appreciated. A timeless classic.

My favorite rap album of all time and I was lucky enough to see Nas perform it live at Rock the Bells a couple years ago but yea, this is either getting locked up or moved.

Most overrated album of all time.

Hov and Nas are the most overrated rappers of all time.

That is awesome that you saw that. My fav dvd is still his NYC gods son one. Man that dvd/performance has some chilling parts. Insane.

It would be awesome if ppl who respected the significance of this album would come chime in.

Some of my favorite stuff to do is read stories who grew up in early/mid 90s new york talking about Wu and Nas in their areas

Sadly we'll just get clowns n trolls talking about jay z and other rappers because thats the way it is nowadays :-/

One cool story I read back in the day on the Tupac.net forums was a guy that grew up w Ill Will. Obv he was cool w Nasir but as known now he was pretty private. Well anyways one time a kid out there in PS wrote a battle rap about nas, he never replied. Ill will stood up for nas for weeks. It got to the point where IW told nas hey man they wont stop. U gotta say something. He says ok we'll battle. Well apparently nas had been writing/bottling **** up for awhile against this cat. Found out about his chickenheads, dirty father, everything. This guy said it was a massacre. So dope that the other guys crew even was dying laughing

We have always assumed 8 mile ripped this story off. One of my good friends still swears it to this day. For those that dont know, tupac.net was one of the biggest forums back innthe dial up days if you were into rap.

Afeni actually sued the forum over the rights of her sons name. I actually lost alot of respect for the game after that. Tupac would have never been cool w that. She milked the popularity. Unfortunately she made a calculated mistake. Tupac.net forums wouldve been the allhiphop forums u know nowadays

Funniest thing was. They went to trial vs her. The owners of the domain. They used a thread titled "how many of yall ever get tired of jerking off?" Against rj and jg the owners. It worked too. The responses in that thread were legendary at the time. Unfortunately at that time jurys were against free speech. It was the beginning.

Nice lil history lesson for some of yall! Most ppl left n migrated to another site, but it was never the same. Hell, its how i found NT lol

meh

lil b has muuucchhh better music and he is a more skilled rapper.

B talks about more real stuff too. you NY dudes are too soft

Also caught Nas doing it in its entirety at Rock The Bells a few years back. I was kind of tight he didn't do the 3rd verse of One Love. Possibly the best verse on the album. Was also tight he didn't do Eye For An Eye w/ Mobb Deep since they were there too. lol

I agree it is the greatest album ever. Nas the GOAT.

tupac is still the best in my eyes

QUELL..Yo that was real interesting man, it's always cool to hear stories like that.

SOLEXSUP..Dont get me started on OB4CL..Thats another classic. That was the blueprint for a lot of this modern day ****. ****** wasn't rapping about that glorious mafioso lifestyle until Rae and Ghost brought it up
