Illmatic is the best Musical album of all time. Lets take a trip down memory lane

Nobody wants you to not have an opinion brother. Thats what makes every individual unique! We just want you to have an educated one!

If you cant listen to an album like Illmatic, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Liquidswordz, Sun Rises in the East and NOT claim them to be some of the handful of best rap albums/cultural impact type albums then thats our fault as a society! And unforunately that effects you negatively. It sucks.

It means you werent educated in storytelling, or structure in music. Illmatic is the best Musical album of all time from a rap perspective, those that are educated on it could go on and on. But is it worth it?

^ i was talking to the poster WhatsLosingLike above, although hes an obvious internet troll/psycho. I have been where he was before, I understand his psychology completely. Amazing how many of our youth buy into his mindset nowadays

not my favorite album but the album is near flawless

He's right about it not being the best musical album of all time.

I honestly don't like much NY rap... Never have. I mean I respect the culture, but wordplay does not make you a good rapper.

Hov has his moments, but should NEVER EVER EVER EVER be called the GOAT.

Nas just is meh.

What is the greatest musical album ever

And can a rap album ever be held in such esteem, if not why so

And your opinion just became irrelevant. Please exit stage left.

That is awesome that you saw that. My fav dvd is still his NYC gods son one. Man that dvd/performance has some chilling parts. Insane.

Yea, I went to the NY show and it was incredible to see my favorite rap album performed live. The energy was crazy and from what I remembered he had AZ, Premo, Pete Rock, and Akinyele up there. Definitely wasn't expecting him to do his Live at the BBQ verse, it was insane. Hell, even Steve Nash was up on stage and grinding on some bad *** female.

Nas is doing a special tour for the 20 year anniversary of Illmatic, look out for it. A documentary is coming out for Illmatic too.

Also caught Nas doing it in its entirety at Rock The Bells a few years back. I was kind of tight he didn't do the 3rd verse of One Love. Possibly the best verse on the album. Was also tight he didn't do Eye For An Eye w/ Mobb Deep since they were there too. lol

I agree it is the greatest album ever. Nas the GOAT.

Yea, I was upset too that Nas didn't come in for that verse during Mobb's set, one of my favorite from him. I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life that night with Nas performing Illmatic on one side and Rae and Ghost performing OB4CL on the other side, still disappointed I miss that but catching Illmatic, The Infamous, Enta Da Stage, Black Sunday, and Black Star nearly in full was still a fantastic day.

You would truly be amazed how many people don't rock with Hov or Nas like that...

Half of NT is from NY so I know I'm in the minority on here... But I've only known a handful of people in real life who listen to those dudes heavy.

even if you dont like nas/jayz, if you listen to their lyrics (old jay z at least) there is no way you can say that they are average rappers

its like you can hate lebron all you want but you cant look at his stats and say hes a bad basketball player

Never said dudes were trash... Reasonable Doubt up to the first Blueprint is solid work. Nothing after that really does it for me. *shrugs*

Illmatic is cool as well. But for some reason Nas' voice puts me to sleep.

I respect those dudes, they're just far from my favorite rappers. Sorry if that rustles some of your jimmies.

I guess that's the reason why I like Pac. Dude's voice had passion in it. Wordplay and lyricism is just a part of being a good rapper, it's not the ONLY thing that matters. Just my .02.

That's cool. You don't have to like em. But to say they're the most overrated rappers ever (lil wayne?) and not above average is just silly.

I'm not Pac's biggest fan but such blasphemy would never leave my lips. And wordplay and lyricism are exactly what makes someone a good rapper.

There's a difference between being a good rapper and a good entertainer. You're confusing the two. French Montana is a good entertainer. He's a trash rapper.
