Since the collapse of the Soviet Union the United States has been buying up Nuclear Warheads from Russia (approximately 16,000). The U.S. has been recycling these warheads in nuclear power plants. The very thing that was meant to destroy our country is now powering our cities. Approximately 10% of U.S. Nuclear power comes from recycled Russian nuclear warheads.

Something to add:

In the Cold War as both USSR and the US were racing to get as many nuclear arms as possible they had very intelligent people of course to make them. Now that there is no war between us and the major countries are advocating no nuclear weapons all the intelligent people that worked on the Nuclear missiles are the only ones that can disarm them safely and the problem is that they're either dead or retired/really old. The next generations didn't bother with gaining the knowledge of nuclear weapons. so as of now we still have some missiles from the 60's ready to go but aren't needed.

That's sad to me.... We're not smart anymore, but I don't know how much that relates much with the quoted fact
