Dudes used to go IN on here.  MyT was always a good sport though--gotta respect him for that.

I appreciate the love for the NT community, but you couldn't have used a more recent picture than this?

We all had awkward phases we'd prefer to forget.  Yuku was like the digital equivalent of an orthodontic retainer.

Yeah, that was the old companion site that @CSoldia  graciously created for us.  We needed that (and the ticker) to help compensate for the lack of a proper front page.   (Which we finally addressed 13 years later by switching platforms.)
If I remember correctly, I think there was a JB forum but it was a "nike/jordan forum"..then they added a "AJ Jordan XI" a few months later

The format used to be: The Lounge, Nike/JB, Buy/sell, Achieve
Then it came: AJ XI Forum, The Lounge, Nike/JB, Buy/sell, Achieve
The Jordan XI forum was basically the kids' table.  I don't remember if we set it up prior to separating Nike and Jordan Brand, as Jordan Brand only released a handful of shoes each year back in those days.  If the Nike product catalog was a binder, the Jordan Brand catalog was a pamphlet.  The former was literally bound by rings; the latter, staples.

The hype for the XI was unbearable.  People wanted to "confirm" the Black/Red colorway over a year in advance based on wishful thinking alone.  Eventually we just set up a padded room where kids could bounce off the walls and run around in circles shouting nonsense until the damned things finally launched.  It may seem like an extreme step to create a whole forum just for one sneaker model - unless you were actually here at the time.

We sequestered those who had lost their sanity in order to preserve our own.
Damn I miss ezboard

That's like saying "I miss standard definition television and audio cassettes" because you're feeling nostalgic about the 80's.

If I could actually convert NikeTalk to a version of the now-defunct ezboard system circa 2000, we'd be absolutely inundated with complaints.

You take something as simple as posting a picture entirely for granted.  In the ezboard era, it was a multi-step process that began with finding external hosting for your image and ended with HTML or bbcode.

The system practically ran on punched cards.  Its load times were on par with what you expected in 2000, not 2014, and those load times were delivered under drastically reduced traffic and by serving far less data.

This was the FULL resolution of a sneaker picture I posted to NikeTalk in early 2000:

The digital camera I borrowed used 3.5" diskettes as its media.  Seriously.

A single .gif used in a post these days takes up more memory than the average NikeTalk page in 2000.  If we used that software platform and server combination today, we might as well send the pages by mail.

It may seem gradual, but we really have come a long way.

ezboard was the best free message board system available in 1999.  When Nelson found it, it was immediately clear that he'd identified the solution we'd been searching for.  We made the best of that platform for a long, long time.  But let's not allow nostalgia to cloud our memories.  By contemporary standards, ezboard is archaic.

I still can't believe that the yuku "rebrand" managed to convince so many people that it was actually a different entity.  ezboard:yuku::tongue:ac man:ms. pac man.  They slapped a bow on it and pawned it off on consumers as a new product.

What you perceive as Yuku's failure is really just about ezboard's stagnation.  Ezboard was ahead if its time in 1999.  It was starting to show its age in 2003.  By the time Yuku rolled around, it was too little, too late.  The Internet had moved on.  They were introducing "web 2.0" features that nobody even cared about anymore and spent YEARS trying to perfect Myspace-style profile pages.

Yuku really was more advanced.  The only difference was this:  when it was in use, ezboard fit the time.  Yuku did not.

Example:

If you were a kid in 1989, you probably loved this:

But, several years later, you did NOT love this:

By that time, your expectations had changed.

It's the same with software.

You don't miss ezboard; you just miss your childhood.

NT is the Internet.

If I can have only one site, it would be NT. It's the CNN, E Television, TNT, ESPN, NBC, Engadget, TheVerge, Videogaming, PrOn and whatever else entertainment you wanna add of the internet.

Well said. My sentiments exactly.

There have been times that news has broken on here before it hits CNN or another major media outlet. And if something major happens, I can always rely on there being a thread on here about it that eventually turns into a race thread.

Yea, i remember i got screwed out of the size 8 that i purchased. Paid for it and everything, but 3 days after, they cancelled my order and said they oversold. I hit up meth like "can i get dibs on the next hat release" i got a reply that they would try, but i doubt they kept a list of people who had their order cancelled, :smh::smh::smh:
