so who is informed then? the police?

do you even have a coherent argument?

the fact that corruption exists isnt the issue... I am interested in prevalence, trend, and solutions...

If you read and understood half the articles you posted you wouldn't be arguing with me...

so because crime is going down, and overall corruption from the early 90s to 2014 has gone down even though post 9/11 we've seen an influx of police brutality it's all good?

 okay.

 okay.

who said anything is all good?

you are still talking to me right?

post 9/11 we've seen an influx of police brutality

source?....actual source not an editorial or twitter data.

EDIT: nevermind... i forgot ... "the police hide all the data so there is none.".. which begs the question... where are you getting your info?....editorials and headlines?

My bad I forgot you only go along with the term police brutality if each incident is deemed as such. So civilian 5000 deaths since 9/11, definitely not excessive or brutal force.

BRB I'm going to go from city to city and ask for this data.

but there's still a ton of instances you can see just by picking your local paper, or national paper.

it's all out there.

plus like I said a ton of this **** goes undocumented.

I straight up didn't have the balls to ask for detective for his badge number for fear of escalation when I got assaulted. Felt like, "damn I can't defend myself in this situation and if I want to press the issue from a legal standpoint I might die tonight."
Yea and theres a ton of good that the police do on a day to day basis that goes undocumented cause people don't want positive news.

Lots of dudes in here judging individuals negatively based on nothing that the individual had to do with... Assuming that that individual is in turn judging them negatively based on nothing that they had to do with...

The irony is strong.

Put cameras on cops that they cannot turn off or remove during their patrols, send the footage to a third party company so as to avoid internal corruption, when legal trouble is encountered footage is reviewed.

Put something similar to this (Only thought about for 15 seconds lol) and I'd stop having a bias toward cops.
They do this in Rialto, CA
The tupac thing was a high profile attempted assassination. Isolated incident. That's not going down with the average citizen. and for a cop to be proven in the wrong that has to happen in a court of law. And we see how that's been working out for us. Idk what kind of cops u all are encountering in the streets but it's LAPD out here. These a holes absolutely HATE being undermined. Mention a law to them that they are breaking or are unaware of and watch them spaz out on u. I've witnessed this first hand multiple times.
Yeah, cops will go harder if you mention any type of law.

Naw bruh, even if you've done nothing they still try to give you some trumped up charges kuz they just want to hit that quota. It's happened a couple of times n I'm still paying for court fees n something my PD could've gotten reduced to a misdemeanor as a first time offender n no one but the DA pressing charges, so kill that noise. They in it to get you. Sorry I can't go the MJ route n just change the color of my skin. These police know what they're doing, racial profiling is just as strong as ever.
Let me ask you this question. How many things HAVE YOU done?

Police profiling exists, but what you're describing isn't normal even by profiling standards. No black person I know gets stopped HABITUALLY unless they are up to something. All this can be completely avoided by not committing crime in the first place.
Can I ask where you live? Kuz where I'm at most times (San Bernardino n Redlands, CA) the police will mess with anyone brown or black. I've done things YEARS ago, but I don't break TRAFFIC laws that would warrant a stopping by the police. I don't even start driving until everyone has a seat belt on. I've been walking down my own street n the cops will stop n ask what I'm doing, so miss me with all that. I'm speaking on my experience, which is what I said in my OP. So c'mon bruh don't try to BS me with all this what were you doing nonsense.
No system can be perfect but there are a whole lot of things that we could do to make our law enforcement community more humane, professional and community oriented.

- End the Drug War. Police are supposed to protect citizens from other citizens. the Drug War involves the police spying on, kidnapping and killing citizens, particularly poor citizens of color.

- End preferences for veterans. Veterans should get preferences in hiring for any other form of civil service aside from policing. The mindset that keeps a soldier alive in Iraq or Afghanistan is the mindset that causes them be needlessly aggressive in the course of police work.

- End preferences for criminal justice majors. Any other degree should get applicants more points, particularly social and behavioral sciences.

- The police academies should make education about the economic, social, political and cultural realities of the communities, which they will soon be policing, a major part of the curriculum.

- Demilitarize the dress, language and terminology of the police force. Stop with camouflage outfits, assault rifles, buzz cuts, combat boots and calling your fellow citizens "combatants."

- Deunionize the police force so they cannot lobby for more and harsher laws (the notion that the police are "just enforcing the laws" and don't make them is untrue and antiquated).

- Raise the base pay and eliminate any bonuses or other incentive programs that reward more arrests or higher clearance rates.

- Bring in civilian review boards.

The political feasibility of each item varies from slim to nonexistent but we all know that those proposals would drastically change the relationship between the police and the communities which they are supposed to serve and protect.
Yes, this would help the issue immensely IMO.
You don't have to be a hoodlum or even hang with them to get harrassed by the police @LIONBLOOD.. All you have to do is be in the right place at the wrong time.
1000000x this

fantastic post, agree with almost everything. Especially the war on drugs, the ending of preference for Vets and most importantly DEUNIONIZATION.

Disagree that criminal justice majors shouldn't get preference. We take a lot more ethics based classes than the average officer with no college background.

The items that are taught in criminal justice are valuable and should be taught to every police officer as part of their training. I mentioned the item about college degrees because it would benefit the police force, especially police forces in large cities. if more officers knew the culture and language of the immigrant communities that they will likely encounter when they are doing police work, they could catch more criminals within those communities and build relationships with the law-abiding people in those communities.

Yeah, but I can only recall one time where the cop was actually cool n I gave him his props. But I understand your point.

So based on videos found online all police are bad......... So I guess based on videos found online all black people are ______? All ____ people are _____?

Same ******ed logic. The fact that this debate is still going on shows a lot about some people. If they aren't trolling then you can't help but feel sorry for them

I'm CJ major. 90% of my program was social science, ethics, history/philosophy of law, theory, race/class as it relates to discrimination within the system, etc etc.

The 1 and only policing class I had to take was primarily about ethics, community policing and improving relationships with civilians.

So...uhh yeah what are you talking about?

Do you think Criminal Justice is just a bunch of meat heads in a classroom arm wrestling?

how many civilian deaths before 9/11?

who said that it is not excessive or brutal force?

who are you arguing with?

why do you not address any of my questions?

funny, seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence on youtube and other media outlets of cops going over the line.

open the local paper, same thing.

national news, same thing.
You're right about this and it is a problem, no doubt about it. As with other professions, corruption and misconduct exists within law enforcement. I think most unbiased citizens of this country acknowledge it too.

One of the main issues is police comraderie, which often extends into the courtroom (which is another issue). These "professionals" often put personal relationships above the law, which is unethical.

This is the best part of this.

Pot meet kettle.
Yea its a lot of crying about "dont judge a book by its cover" and then that person judges a book by its cover.

You right, but it's a ****d up cycle that doesn't look like it will end anytime soon

For sure, I think most of us can agree on that.  Unfortunately...
