NEW YORK METS 2016 SEASON THREAD

We all saw Washington sacrifice a chance at a title for nothing by not pitching Strasburg. I think TC wants to challenge these guys and it's good to get them these little breaks during the season. But come postseason if we there, better be going for it.

I don't see how Harvey will say he won't pitch in October if the team gets that far, and the Mets will allow him to do it.

Enjoy Harvey in his prime years before he bolts, never a fan of giving any pitcher 7 years which some team will offer him when he becomes a FA.

If he wants to pitch, let him pitch.

Boras works for Harvey, but I don't think Harvey would be this selfish to bench himself during a shot at the World Series. Tom Glavine said that if he feels he can pitch, he should because you don't know if you'll ever get back to the WS.

Another game in which it looks like starting pitching won't make it past six. Starting pitching needs to be sharper at this point in the season.

End of the year guys start hitting walls. All that matters is finding that second wind the last stretch of the year.

Why didn't Major League Baseball seize the team from the Wilpons after they were linked to Madoff? That was much worse than what McCourt was doing. I only ask because their penny pinching will be the reason they likely don't offer Cespedes.

Because they're boys with Selig. Literally the only reason why :smh:

Lol

I haven't been in this thread since that day so it was funny seeing that post. That trade not working out was a good thing

Wright needs to deliver in that spot, at least the team didn't quit.

Nats will handle the Braves easily, Mets play the Braves next week for four games as well so it all evens out.

O'Flaherty stinks.

Terry is allergic to guarding the line.

I have no respect whatsoever for Matt Harvey and I want him traded.

Conversely this bs makes me respect David Wright even more for busting his behind to come back and give his team a chance to win it all.

Here's my take on this Harvey situation, posted it in the MLB thread.

i don't blame him or boras for wanting to protect their investment long term.     they handled this poorly as hell though and deserve the scrutiny they're getting.

this is the same matt harvey who wanted to come back last september and publicly lobbied to do so.   this is the same matt harvey who has thrown tantrums when taken out of games early, this is the same matt harvey who has publicly complained about the 6 man rotation.

i get the concern on his end, but things like what i just mentioned above come across as very hypocritical on harveys part.

J Johnson, 2009: 15.71 Pitches/inning
J Parker, 2012: 15.62
S Marcum, 2010: 15.58
K Medlen, 2013: 15.48
*M Harvey, 2015: 14.78*

Or put it another way:

Johnson: 3284 pitches
Parker: 3155 pitches
Medlen: 3049 pitches
Marcum: 3043 pitches
Harvey: 2459 pitches

If the Mets were to limit Harvey to 3000 pitches, at his current pace of pitches per inning, Harvey could throw *203* innings, not 180.

I've been writing for at least 17 years now: it's not the innings, it's the pitches. Why the hell are we still talking about innings?

Without even getting into the wisdom of basing decisions on a sample size of 4 pitchers, USING BORAS' OWN CRITERIA, Harvey can go 203 IP.

I have no respect whatsoever for Matt Harvey and I want him traded.

I mean, both sides have a point, I would be surprised if Harvey does not pitch in any October games if they make it that far.

Just don't see it.

Don't see how this even had to be made public from Boras, first week into September. Ridiculous to say the least.

Gary makes a good point that if that 185 innings limit was a hard cap, the Mets would've started him in May to begin with.

I get it, but I don't want someone on my team who isn't 100% focused on winning a championship.

I much rather roll with Colon and deal with the lumps at this point. At least that man cares about winning.

this whole thing makes me respect david wright even more for busting his tail to get back out there with a debilitating condition
