NEW YORK METS 2016 SEASON THREAD

It's over, congrats to the Royals. They wanted it more. Now we separate the real fans from the fair weather fans. Mets didn't seal the deal but they had a great season and hopefully build on it next year. This year marks 30 years since the Royals won their last championship. Next year marks 30 years since the Mets last won theirs. Let's hope that next year will be our year.

Hopefully Nimmo is legit and can come up in June. Amed Rosario is two or three years away so SS will just be a stopgap. Don't trust Dilson Herrera. Don't trust Duda. Wright is a depreciating asset sadly.

Hats off to your team. I remember watching the '86 series and how insane that was. You played hard and didn't choke it away. Thats how the game of baseball is. It can be a cruel, cold *****. The future is very promising with that rotation will be even stronger with Wheeler coming back. Let me be proof that if you believe, you can make it back next season. LGM!

Hell of a year. Team started off hot to open the season, struggled with the offense until Cespedes arrived, caught fire down the stretch, cruised into the WS by dismantling quality opposition, and then ran into a buzz saw in KC.

It's really disappointing because they had it. Game 1, game 4, and for sure game 5. I guess I'm in the minority because I thought Terry should have pulled Harvey after the 8th."No way" my @ss. Even Terry himself said that he'll be second-guessing himself for a long time after this one. He knows how hard it is to get to a WS and he should have managed as if it would take him another 30+ years to get to another one. I don't think Terry should be let go. But I do think he fumbled this opportunity.

Anyway, shore up the pen, do NOT trade Wheeler, get rid of Murph, let Yoenis walk, and make some smart signings in the off-season. I like Flores but Tejada plays the field better and defense will be among the top issues to tackle.

Splendid season. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Couldn't bring myself to watch and I was right. They choked this opportunity away. Besides Game 2 they had every chance to win. Who knows if this team goes back to the WS anytime soon? Heartbreaking in every sense of the word. Going to be very difficult to get excited about next year considering the opportunity they blew.

Being a die hard Met fan the regular season was absolutely thrilling for me, especially after these rough couple of years. Hats off to KC but to see the Mets totally fumble such an amazing opportunity away hurts. I could live with being completely overmatched, but that wasn't the case. We shot ourselves in the foot with horrendous defense. I can't stop thinking about that throw. Either way It's all Billy Joel's fault. :smh:

Agreed. I am proud of Mets players for what they did this season. It was a wonderful year for us.

Congratulations to the Royals. They are scary. They got what they wanted. It's like they were playing chess.

I am going to miss Murph. He had a rough World Series. I hope it doesn't affect his career in the future.

Flores's offense was awful but his defense was amazing. He made a lot of good plays. His arm was strong.

We need a strong setup. I would like to see Brandon Nimmo and Gavin Cecchini at Citi next season.

That's the funny part. A lot of people were concerned about Flores' defense after Tejada went down. He turned out to be the most solid one.

Proud of the Mets despite their shortcomings in the WS. I was at the game last night and the energy (prior to the 9th inning) was asbolutely incredible.

Unfortunately the Mets could not hit or field well throughout these last 5 games, and the Royals took advantage.

No single player to blame...not Familia, not Duda, not Murph, not Collins...everyone is partially accountable...this is a team sport after all. We win as a team; we lose as a team.

All I have left to say is...

Harvey
& deGrom
& Syndergaard
& Matz
& Wheeler

Mets in 2016!!!

This is what hurts the most about it. It is hard to say the Royals were the better team. In all but one game, the Mets led late only to fumble the ball at the goal line because they didn't know how to close. I've followed this team for almost twenty years. Besides my alma mater winning a national championship, the Mets winning the World Series would mean everything to me.

The whole city is feeling it. On the way to work, I only saw two Met hats. The city was full of Blue and Orange up until today. It is a hard pill to swallow.

it's always tough losing the series after making it cause it's too damn hard to make it.  then to give it away....ugh.  they exposed our weaknesses that our strengths couldn't cover.  can't blame TC cause most his moves worked out all season.  he's also not playing.  the players are on the field and their inexperience showed.

but the future is bright!  couple bats that work out and we are in the series again for few more years to come!

no need to prove your fandom or discredit others.  only you know who you are .  it's all good whenever they win!

:smh:

Our bullpen, offense and defense all gone this series.

Our starting pitching is great and thats why I have confidence going into next season.

Our front office better put in WORK this winter because we were so so SO close to winning it this year.

I like Flores as a potential utility guy, but I'm not sure he can play everyday. Bringing Murphy back would be nice for the versatility but as shown, he's an enormous liability that may not be worth paying. Really hope Nimmo is ready to start in CF.

I cant find it on mlb.com or mets.com, but does anyone have the link for the Mets players current contracts and salary?

Thanks.

Yea I like Flores as a utility guy too. This should be an interesting offseason. We gotta bring Harvey back. Bats and defense need definite improvement.

harvey is here to stay. he showed this postseason what we all wanted to see. lock him up, buy out his arbitration years and let's try to win it all next year.

As a life long mets fan, I can say this season was great. It was such a fun ride. I enjoyed every minute of it. From the depressing comeback loss to the Padres, to Wilma being traded, then not. Cespedes amazing 2nd half of season, to murphys incredible postseason run. What a year. The experience our young pitches got this year is invaluable. I have a feeling it's gonna take them a long way in years to come. Cheers fellas, it's been real!
