Honest question, what do we do with Murphy this year? He's gonna be a free agent, he's a below average defender, and while he's a plus bat, can we really rationalize paying a 30 year old that can't defend? I think it might make sense dealing him at the deadline. Yes, it would be a Billy Beane type of move, but we have to look toward the future rather than just going all in this year. If we can get a respectable prospect, or swap him for a big leaguer that has a plus bat and a plus glove, I think it makes the most sense. It's an interesting predicament and I'm curious how Sandy handles it.
I'm also curious if Cuddyer can handle some third base. His glove can't be any worse there than it is in left field. If that does happen, I'd like to make a push for Josh Reddick. Feel like we could get him and Tyler Clippard for Montero and a couple of other pieces. Gives us a lefty bat, dependable outfielder, someone that doesn't strike out often, still under team control. Clippard would give us the much needed bridge to Familia that we saw this weekend that we don't have. Not sure if we have the pieces or it makes sense to deal for them, but those two are the types of players I can totally get behind acquiring.
