Gotham Knight video game (new trailer) 8/22/20 p.66

Funny that pops up. While I was gliding a thug said,
"Only thing that is missing is if the flying freak from metropolis comes here"

It's from the Infinite Crisis game

And yeah there are plenty of Superman references. After you beat the main story and talk to one of the firefighters at GCPD he will mention Superman directly by name. There are plenty of other references to other heroes including the Flash amd Green Arrow.

Rocksteady just finished a game they've been working on for 3 years, are releasing DLC over a sixth month period, and are slaving to fix the PC debacle.

They aren't working on anything Superman right now.

It doesn't even have to be Rocksteady, it could be the Montreal studio that made origins. I do believe there was a report that that studio is/was working on a game that was assumed to be a DC property. At this point, I think we can only hope.

The Montreal studio is working on a suicide squad game

BS. Believe it when I see it.

Do developers debut/announce games at SDCC?

Not really sure but since DC is going all out, wouldn't be surprised if this was an extra surprise.

How would the dynamics on a superman game work ? The premise would have to have him already weakened cause no way the little street level thugs are any match at all under normal circumstances

nothing official. Just reliable insiders and mods on neogaf confirming it

There are plenty of ways to go about it without weakening Superman.

All of the Batman games have dealt with the premise of some occupying force or mass uprising of supervillains.

Alien invasion in Metropolis and boom Supes would have plenty of enemies at his level.

People who don't read comics also don't realize that there exists Superman-hurting technology that even the average shmuck can get a hold of

They'd just have to come up with something clever dealing with Kryptonite. Maybe Lex found a way to harvest Kryptonite energy and is using it to power up his thugs? Plus, you can setup the story in Year One when he's still starting to learn his powers. It'd help explain why he'd only be able to glide like Batman does, instead of having supersonic flight.

Coming up with the story is pretty simple and nothing can really be too far-fetched as long as the gameplay is good

Finished main story, everything else is easier once you have upgraded gadgets.  Played through on hard, and was getting killed a lot because I kept trying to use all my gadgets during combat.  Game was too cool.
The way the world changes around you with your camera movement. :pimp:  I don't think I've experienced that in a game in a long time, maybe since one of the Silent Hills?
Felt like Neo fighting Mr. Smith at that one part near the end too.  :pimp:

That's the problem with a Superman game though. People don't want to play as a weakened Superman. They want to be able to use the character at his best (Maybe not moving planets best, but something respectable nonetheless) Yet there seems to be a natural assumption that to make a Superman game he has to be weakened. I don't think he does at all. You've got quite a few villains (Off the top of my head: Braniac, Zod, Doomsday, Gog, and Darkseid) who can all provide suitable challenges on a physical level. Parasite can already drain his powers, krpytonite based weapons and red sun weapons exist, and many other villains use energy based attacks that used properly allow them to keep Superman at a distance. Make his running and flying speed manageable so that everything's not a constant blur and decide on how open world its going to be and a game shouldn't be all that hard.

But that's the thing. Unless your gonna have a game that's strictly boss battles, it's the same. What I mean is if you make every folder enemy have some sort of gimmick that allows them to fight him, it's essentially the same as weakening superman to their levels.

My ideal superman game would be more of a puzzle game that has some fighting. By ouzzle game, I mean I'm flying around and I see that there is a dam collapsing and a city will be flooded. I have to think about how I want to stop it. Do I build something around the city to block to water or do I go directly to the dam withou a plan etc. that's interesting to me. Thinking about how I would handle that situation.

Or another example. There's a huge earthquake in Japan. What do I do. Do I do use on evacuating the city. Flying underground and stopping the quake somehow. Or maybe I should also keep an eye on that nuclear facility over there so that it doesn't blow up

That's what I think of superman. Which is kinda why I liked superman returns in a sense. Fighting is fine but ink he's such a strong force it would get boring always winning

Anyway the game I just described wouldn't sell because people need action and fighting, not puzzles

Easy way to solve that is to have an alien invasion going on, combined with various villains uniting, perhaps have either Darkseid or Braniac at the head of it all. Parademons or robots can both be easily utilized to give Superman some trouble, especially if you're combining kryptonite based attacks to phase him further. Hell, you could have Lex Luthor leading a new Injustice Gang, and he's fronting the money for random robbers to have kryptonite-based tech. The overall effect that the tech then has it was separates it from just weakening Superman altogether, because it won't last for the entire game, or even the entire fight/confrontation depending on how you position the character and how close he is to the weapons.

They can definitely do it but instead of weakening Supes, you make the enemies stronger. In the cartoons, Lex manages to suit up some of his guards with armor (Lex uses one himself) to be able to stand long enough against Supes (I think the episode was where dude went crazy and went after Lex eventually), Lex could afford to make an army of that. Equip some of the higher level ones with Kryptonite. Leads to a Lex power suit battle.

On another part of the city, Brainiac infected people that gives them super strength. Not only does he take it easy and hold back punches but those guys gets super strength (kind of like Lex with tentacles growing off of him in the JL cartoon). Leads to a Brainiac boos battle.

StarLabs could be working for Lex and they tried the Bizarro blood transfusion on civilians or army volunteers, make it like Caps super serum. Leads toa Bizarro boss battle.

StarLabs robot, pre-cursor to Cyborg? Leads to an army of clones Superman robots boss battle?

You can also deal with time travelers where they have some advanced tech that could stand against Supes. Leads to a Magog boss battle.

A small Kryptonian army/survivors invades. Leads to Zod and Faora boss battle.

Parademons invasion via Darkseid. Leads to Darkseid boss battle.

A Mister Mxyzptlk world similar to Scarecrows dream stages in the Arkham games. This could also be like Riddlers challenge or more liek Catwoman rescue, he'd be all over the city ready to teleport Supes to a new world with a set of challenges, that's his thing, Supes has to outsmart him to beat him.

Have riots or some sort of save-a-civilian things all around the city. There's a cheap version of this in DC Universe Online where you just go around the city and save someone being mugged. A car chase can be done with this too and Supes flying.

And that is just on the top of my head, I am sure people at DC could come up with more and in-depth stuff. Only difficult stuff is levelling him up, unless it is like a starter Supes where he learns new things about his powers? Superman Origins?

I just think a superman game should t be mainly based around combat. It should be there but that's not all the character is about

Batman is about detective work and punching people in the face

Superman is about saving people( with fighting at times)

I was talking to a friend about why a superman game just wouldn't work. They'd either need to strip him of his powers to gain it back gradually (which sucks) or nerf him all the way. The open world would need to be earth and even then it'd be boring and pointless because he can fly leaving most of the open world barren and unnecessary. The game would turn into a series of time attack mission. Pass

I could be totally buggin but did anyone else hear chatter from thugs referencing superman?

something along the lines of "at least it's not that guy from Metropolis"
