I've seen the 3rd Gen Acura TL mentioned on NT a ton of times since I've been a member. I'm looking for a new whip since my 96 Explorer conked out on me. Last week, I thought I wanted an Explorer, but after doing research I think a TL might be up my alley as well.

My budget is tight, I'll probably put about $2k down, and finance the other 6-8K depending on the price I find the TL I want at.
I'm reading about the timing belt issues, so I know I need to make sure that has already been replaced. I've also read to avoid the 04, so I'm looking at an automatic 2005-6. Last thing, I need are transmission, dashboard cracking :smh: and other mechanical and cosmetic issues.

Also any other suggestions for sedans? Main option I'm looking for is a sunroof (no Hondas, BMW, Lexus) a

If I cop I'll be on Acurazine heavy, upgrading the whip :pimp:

My buddy has (I think an 06) a TL , navy with the peanut butter leather. Tinted the windows and did a few slight mods and it looks :pimp:

I saw a few of those on Craiglist. But I'm worried about parts and insurance being pricey. I did most of the maintenance on my Explorer, so if possible I'd like to be able to fix issues on my next whip.

nooera nooera

That sounds :pimp: I just want a light color (silver), basically something that looks clean even if it's dirty.

I have an 07 Type S in white diamond pearl. LOVE THIS CAR.

04-06's all can have transmission issues. From 07-08 they changed the transmission and I haven't really ever heard of the auto's having any issues. I don't think the 07-08's have dash issues either.

All 3G's need the timing belt done eventually, usually 7 years, 105k miles.

If you can afford to shop around for a little while, I would definitely shoot for an 07-08 instead even if it's not a Type S. You will eventually find some pretty good deals depending on the area.

I'm not sure if I can shop around for more than a day or two. I work 12+ hrs a day, credit union denied me for the $5k I asked for and I can't get a co-signer, so I might have to finance thru a used dealer :x. I've been pushing rentals and racked up over $1k in rental cars in the past 6 weeks, so I'm hoping to cop something over the weekend.

I'm really wary of these issues on the 04-06, having a ****** go bad on you is no fun (happened in my XLT). The lack of issues you mentioned on the 07-08 has me wanting to jump at those, but then again if i'm in the $11-12K range I might as well cop an 4th gen Explorer (my first choice). I don't know  I'll do some brainstorming, but thanks for the suggestions and details.

No worries man! Good luck with the search. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have and be sure to keep reading up on AZine. I got mine with 61k miles for 17k so deals are definitely out there to be had!

I own a 2007 TL Type S and I absolutely love it. Of course though, I've always wanted this car since it released and I was 20 but couldn't afford it lol but I copped mine last summer and I love everything about it.

Ask me anything you want to know about it..

How much player?

The TL-S are so beast. Would love to copp me one.

Mannnn Animal Thug Animal Thug you might've sold me on that TL-S, too clean! :pimp: :pimp: :pimp:

If I can find one in the $12k-14 range I might go for it.

EDIT: Now I'm seeing jkballer's! I'm definitely joining the fam. Now what if I install aftermark taillights on on 04-06 to look like a TL-S? Yall got me thinking

acemaster193 acemaster193 I paid just under $12 for mine, it had 117k miles on it. I'm pushing close to 130k now :wow: that's because my commute to work everyday is ridiculously far, but thankfully I'll be working from home soon so I won't be driving it nearly as much.

jkballer5 jkballer5 Niice fam. My barber has the same color as yours and I've always been so envious of the pearl white  I just think it looks so clean with tinted windows.

romedadude romedadude Bro definitely consider it. I would aim for the Type S if possible because of the demand for them, they hold their value like crazy.

Thank God, I haven't had any problems with mine at all. It's so comfortable to drive, it's really an animal too! It gets up so quick and I've gotten 2 speeding tickets already lol :smh: I need to be more conservative driving it.

Animal Thug Animal Thug I'm like you were, I always eyed the 3rd Gens a few years ago, but I was pushing my Explorer, which was clean, reliable, plus I couldn't afford anything else. But, now I feel like i need to treat myself. I'm usually frugal with my purchases and get by on penny pinching. I need to get something newer, clean, reliable, and most importantly sporty. Just gotta find a way to get these payments under $250 a month

Did you go thru a private seller or a dealer?

romedadude romedadude I went through a dealer, which they were asking 13,5 for it - and I just used some hustler tactics that my boy schooled me on lol and I ended up getting it down to $11,900 for it - which is amazing for this car - my dude bought his pearl white one for 16.5k and his only has 13k miles less on it.

My payments are actually $212 a month, but my credit is (or was) really excellent so that helped with the interest rate.

I was actually in a similar position as you Rome, I was aiming for something much less expensive and something much more basic, but I said screw it man - you live once. Just go for the car you want if you're financially stable for it. I remained patient and finally came across this car and I went in on it. I don't regret my purchase at all! I'm very happy with it. the 07-08 TL's are made to last for the long run.

Man, we might have to discuss this more thru PMs. Financially, I'm more than able to make the payments, I just got a raise and all that, where I can pay it and still be comfortable. But in America, as I'm learning, if you don't have credit you ain't ****

It's looking like I'll have to finance thru the dealer and have high interest rate before re-financing thru my credit union.
