Considering Transferring Schools, Advice Appreciated UPDATE: Got accepted

I would stay at the higher ranked school. Business graduates are a dime a dozen these days, so while you could be successful down the road graduating from either school, the higher ranked school will look better on your resume. If you are miserable tho or want to save money by living at home by going to the other school, then make sense to transfer.

I'm honestly not too happy where I'm at, which is part of why I'm slightly leaning toward transferring. Last semester I was stressing every day knowing how bad this semester was going to be before I made some changes. While I am still focused on grades it's a huge relief knowing that I have the option to go somewhere where I have a better chance of being successful.

I figure a better degree from a slightly lesser business school is better than a lesser degree from the school I'm at, which would look better on my resume. That being if theoretically my grades this semester don't put me on pace to be accepted.

Would you be changing majors also? Or just schools? Depending on your major, the GPA likely won't make a difference. What is your major anyway if you don't mind sharing?

As far as commuting from home, don't  I stayed on campus and commuted. If you're having trouble staying focused, try scheduling some library time right before, after, or in between classes while you're already out. Grades are important, but socializing and networking with fellow students is also important.

Zapatohead....repped brah...that was deep.

OP the only advice I can give from experience is to really know if this is really the field/career you want to be in years down the road.

Don't be a sheep. Find your passion and go for it. Your real passion. Something that is going your going to be so happy doing that you would do it for 50% less than what your looking to make as a yearly salary.

GL.

Just schools. My business GPA needs to be at a 2.7 when I apply to the business school here compared to the 2.5 cummulative GPA at the school I'd be transferring to. I'm a marketing major but I'm definitely up to changing it before applying to either business school.

I've gotten better with my study habits and I set up study groups in preparation for tests, last semester is when I really cracked down. I have several friends at the school I'd be transferring to including the friend I mentioned if he gets in, so the social aspect would still be there. Only reason I mention my parents, and I hate to say it, but they were honestly my primary motivators when I was in high school. Back then I could breeze by with minimal effort, but now it actually matters.

I'm not 100% sure on where exactly I want to be years down the road. I was hoping college would give me a better outlook, but several of the classes I'm interested in and all of the marketing classes are ones I can't take till after I'm accepted into the business school.

I'm not trying to be a sheep, but I'm also trying to maximize my abilities and not sell myself short. By the time I have a degree I'll have a better outlook of what exactly I want to do and I think a business degree will open more doors for me from which I can pursue a passion.

Thanks for the responses, I'll be repping everyone.

Just an update, I got accepted by the school I applied to transfer to. I'm leaning toward it being the smart thing for me to do as it gives me the best chance to get a business degree. While I don't officially need to make a decision till June 15th, I want to try and make one as soon as possible so I can work towards getting my lease at my current school filled.

My grades this semester are pretty good, but the two most difficult business classes are still on the horizon and how well I'll have to do in them may be slightly unrealistic. I feel like I have a better shot at the school I applied to since I'll have multiple chances to retake them, if necessary, and the grades I need to get in them aren't as high.

If any of you have any advice or have transferred before your input will be very helpful to me.

Just because the school is not as prestigious doesn't mean courses will be easier.

And honestly, you shouldn't be taking courses just to scrape by with the minimum requirements, especially if it's your major.

Yes I realize that, I'm actually going to meet up with some friends who go there this weekend to compare course material.

It's really only for two classes I know I'll struggle in/do struggle in, which are accounting and a business math class. Neither of those are my major and are pretty much unrelated to marketing. I'm actually retaking accounting now and am doing better in it. They're just required prerequisites for all business majors is all.

Boy, don't you worry.
You'll find yourself.
Follow you heart,
and nothing else.
You can do this,
if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
is to be satisfied.
This just made my thoughts more clear. Repped!
