Well, this doesn't sound very heroic. According to a new report from The New York Post's Page Six, Andrew Garfield was supposed to present at the Oscars with Miles Scott -- a.k.a. Batkid, the 5-year-old boy with cancer who played superhero in San Francisco -- but "refused" to go on when he didn't like his lines.

"The Academy was going to make [Miles] an official superhero during the Oscar ceremony," a source told Page Six, noting that it had been coordinated with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which also helped facilitate the little boy's dreams of being Batman. "Andrew Garfield was going to appoint him 'Batkid,'" the insider continued. "But, in the middle of the dress rehearsal, Garfield decided he didn't like his lines."

The source went on to say that the Spider-Man star "refused to go by the script" and instead came up with his own lines, which producers didn't go for. "Garfield had a tantrum. He stormed off," the source said, adding that Miles and his family "were devastated."

Ultimately, the bit was cut completely. Producers reportedly paid for Miles to go to Disneyland instead, and brought in Captain America star Chris Evans to present in Garfield's place.

"He got the call pretty much the day of that he'd have to go on," a source told Us Weekly of Evans. "Chris hadn't been planning on even going to the Oscars."

A rep for Garfield did not respond to Page Six's request for comment.

That sucks. Also weird to have a Marvel character appoint someone into the Bat-Family

Couldn't they have easily just gotten Christian Bale? He was already gonna be there for American Hustle. Sad to hear for the kid, that article doesn't put Garfield in a good light if it's true that he threw a tantrum and left. It was supposed to be a moment for the kid and somehow he managed to turn it all about himself :smh:

Thats what i'm thinking too....like why didnt they get Bale?

While I despise Garfield immensely, I can easily see this situation as being ****** up for Garfield as well. I'd like to know what lines Garfield wanted to make before I make judgement. Producers for these shows can be incredibly stupid with the speaking lines they give to presenters which makes them look like complete tools.

On one hand it's sad that Batkid didn't get that shine but on the other I can see how the producers maybe didn't respect Garfield enough to let him run with his improvised lines because he's not one of the bigger names...like Bale...who probably saw the same lines himself and said "nah".

I'm pretty sure Garfield was picked because Marvel Studios paid for ads; that is why Evans replaced him

Bale wasn't picked because there was nothing he was promoting

The producers should have done something to fix the situation and still go threw with the plans to highlight "Batkid" somehow.

They should've just had Evans read whatever corny lines they wrote. Didn't have to remove the kid from the show.

That moment was in good gesture for the Batkid, not for Garfield. Punk move on his part IMO. Especially when he's the face of a huge franchise in Spider-Man.

FWIW, they should have just had Bale do the honors.

spiderman cant introduce batman so they scrap the idea with the kid?

there are like 1231233 other actors that also play superheroes, and at least one of them would have gone up with the kid

the story doesnt really add up

Huh? Where did it say Spider-man can't introduce Batman?

I remember them hyping up this in the oscar commercials but I didn't notice when it didn't happen. That's ****** of Garfield. Of this was bale, I'd understand. He's an ***. But didn't expect this from Garfield.

Bale is a good dude; he visited the people from the Batman shooting without notice and on his own time.

For some reason I feel I would have done the same as Garfield

I don't know why

Something about the situation........

So the verbal beating he gave a crew member and the literal beating he gave his mom don't matter now

Hol a minute:

Andrew Garfield and Batkid Cut From Academy Awards—What Happened and Who Replaced Them

...

An Academy spokesperson attributes Garfield's absence to production problems.

"Due to the nature of a live show, hard decisions sometimes must be made which require the Academy to cut segments due to the logistics of production," the spokesperson tells E! News in a statement. "Andrew Garfield understood that his segment had to be omitted, and he drove to Disneyland on Monday to spend time with 5-year-old Miles Scott (Batkid) and his family."

Miles' family traveled to L.A. for the Academy Awards; they were informed of the change Sunday.

"I don't know if they ran out of time, or if there was something about the segment they didn't like," Natalie Scott, Miles' mother, told The International Business Times. "It got pulled so quickly that we didn't have a lot of insight into what was going on." She added, "It is kind of a disappointment, but things happen. I know that's how TV goes and how Hollywood is. We're just not used to that."

Petty Hollywood conspiracy theory: ABC/Disney/Marvel lets the Academy crew put together the show they want, but on the day of, they looked over the schedule, saw Batkid was on the docket, and were like...HELL NO are we are not gonna put on a free ad for DC's #1 guy on our own Super Bowl.

So they didn't just cut it, they replaced Garfield (a Sony guy) for Evans (one of theirs), to hype up Cap 2 instead.

Cuz, I mean...it's not like Chris Evans couldn't have brought the kid out with him.

Producers can be a-holes tho... maybe something would hurt his image or his franchise itself?
