SIN CITY: A Dame to Kill For (movie thread) - 08/22/14

Watched the first one last night, and it was just ok. Nine years is too long for this sequel imo. Didn't think there was a demand for one.

I'm really gonna have to force myself to watch the first one in prep for the sequel. I remember seeing it once, way back when and wasn't blown away by it. Maybe it'll be different this time around. The fact that Jessica Alba is reprising her role only adds to my reluctance. Not even Eva and Rosario can offset her atrocious performances. I damn near fell out of my chair when Mickey Rourke said, "Jessica's turned into a really fine actress" on the Today show.

You clearly have never seen a classic film noir. Her performance was great.

How many people you know have watched a classic film noir?

I'm not going to pretend that I'm that much of a film aficiando that I've seen many film/neo-noir. Offhand, my knowledge is limited to The Killing, M, Double Indemnity, The Third Man, Notorious, Laura, Vertigo, The Maltese Falcon and Chinatown.

So with that said, if you're telling me Jessica Alba's performance is on par with Faye Dunaway, Ingrid Bergman or Kim Novak.. well, I'm at a loss.

Haven't seen it yet but this is my exact thought. After enough time has passed the expectation to be better than the last is TOO much to overcome.

Lol at people saying you most not watch noir films. Please, Alba is a bad actress. It is what it is. If she wasn't beautiful, she wouldn't even be around.

So I'll watch her scenes on pure peanuts adult Vision

Still mad she didn't get naked in the first one. PG-13 stripe club in a Rated R movie?

Just got back from seeing this movie and I can sum it up easily!

DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!

DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!

DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!

DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!

Movie is just bad! Terrible! Excruciating! Insert any synonyms for the word bad here.

Nothing like it, everything felt different. Seriously the film is just full of Eva Green naked and "cool" ways to kill in black and white and nothing else.

If you want to see Eva Green naked, just google them and save your money.

Timeline makes no sense in regards to Marv and why he is alive, dude was practically a dog in the film and you'll see what I mean if you dare to waste your money on this.

This makes IM3 like TDK.

Throughout the whole film and afterwards, I could feel the tension in the theater and you just knew how everyone felt about the film. It's like everyone felt the shame of just seeing the film.

Yikes. It must be bad, because I've never seen you write a scathing review. Pure cash grab on a movie that didn't call for one.

It was really that bad for me. It definitely felt like Rodriguez just lost it or they just "F it, lets just make a film and rake in the cash!".

Phasing is bad, stories are straight forward and predictable, it just doesn't have the same feeling as the first, it's like it lost it's soul. The monologues and narration on the first one was engaging and entertaining, it makes me want to go to sleep on this one.

I'm looking forward to see how others feel though but this film is right there in the bottom with Daredevil and Green Lantern.

BTW, the best part of the whole film for me wasn't even in the film, it was Tarantinos The Hateful Eight teaser/trailer they showed.

Does it suffer from "300 part 2" syndrome? Meaning does it try to just outdo the last one but fails? Or is it just a bad movie period?
