SIN CITY: A Dame to Kill For (movie thread) - 08/22/14

My coworker and I are gonna go see this after work today, to whoever has read the novel and seen the movie, is it shot for shot the same?

That's mainly what I care for because I loved the book and wanna see it come to life, the only thing that scares me for the movie is the new stories that they the in there just because.

damn i almost feel like i WANT to see how bad it is because of RFX now lol

is it a good bad movie at least?

It was really that bad for me. It definitely felt like Rodriguez just lost it or they just "F it, lets just make a film and rake in the cash!".

Phasing is bad, stories are straight forward and predictable, it just doesn't have the same feeling as the first, it's like it lost it's soul. The monologues and narration on the first one was engaging and entertaining, it makes me want to go to sleep on this one.

I'm looking forward to see how others feel though but this film is right there in the bottom with Daredevil and Green Lantern.
Exactly what I was afraid of, a cash grab.. especially when I saw all the trailers, IMO it was very apparent that it was missing something that the first one had.. the soul wasn't apparent. Such a shame to hear

I don't want to deter people from watching it because different strokes you know.

The movie just didn't work for me but watching reviews on youtube, most pretty much liked it. I honestly do not what they are talking about but there are some goods in the film. The visuals are as stunning as ever maybe even better with the technology today. Marv kicks-*ss but sadly it really felt like dude was brought back for that reason alone. And Eva Green is naked for about 90% of her screen time.

It's hard to go into detail w/o spoiling the film but overall it just wasn't the same as the first one. Even though it feels like you are watching that Sin City world with how it is shot, it also feels like watching the Spirit.

And if the question about how ranking the first one was for me, I put it right there as one of the best and revolutionary films for comic books. I really liked it and probably on top when it comes to graphic novel film adaptations to me.

Sin City's timeline always been out of wack. Majority of this movie is a prequel minus the Nancy story I think and maybe JGL but both are new and Frank just loves throwing stories where ever in SC continuity :rolleyes

Trust me, Marv being there makes no sense especially since he was suppose to be dead in the first one.

Yeah just read spoilers and it doesn't make sense at all especially if you take account of Nancy in Marv's story in the first movie

I'm definitely going to see it this weekend. I heard that Jessica Alba has a minimal role, while Eva Green's boobs had a significant one.

Only question, I haven't revisited the first one yet, do I need to re-watch it?

From what I've heard don't watch it, forget everything about it, then watch it again after seeing this movie.

Just got out of seeing it and it is not as bad as it was made out to be.

The main story was exactly how the book was except that they didn't include the dialogue between Dwight and hours perverted boss which was funny in the book.

The Gordon Levitt part was better than i thought it was gonna be BUT the Jessica Alla part was horrible and dragged on for what seemed to be an eternity.

Lol at that rfx review. That increasing font size was convincing.
Trailer for this movie had me intrigued, i wanted to watch it.
Now im undecided. :))

 Makes me want to delete my post so that it doesn't deter people from seeing it and they judge for themselves.

Maybe the movie just really didn't work for me? Again though, not a fan of bringing someone back w/o explanation or any sense just because they were the best part of the first film.

Well saw it earlier tonight and it was decent at best. Had its moments but I won't be watching it again.

Eva Green :pimp:

This film isn't even going to crack the top 5 in the weekend box office.

You gotta realize that Dame to kill for is pretty much a prequel to the first movie, Dame to kill for was before Dwight got his surgery and The big fat kill (Dwight's story in the first movie) was after. Side note, they should have had Clive Owen play Dwight after he got the surgery, Brolin looked dumb with the hair lol.

In the books, when Marv drops Dwight off at Old Town that's where his story (The hard goodbye) begins. There is a scene towards the end of the Dame to kill for the book (which is also around the beginning of The hard goodbye) where Marv grabs Weevil (dude with the mutton chops) and tells him to spread the word that he is looking for Goldie's killer.

It's confusing but that is the reason why Marv is alive in this movie and probably why they didn't name it Sin City 2.
