Terrible news man...RIP

I just spent the whole day flying today from Maui too. One of our first connecting flights got cancelled because of some problems with the plane.
 
Just read this would be the deadliest crash since November, 2001, when an American Airlines flight crashed in a New York neighborhood. Can you imagine? That was only 2 months after 9/11. I don't remember this story at all.
 
The plane's vertical stabilizer and rudder separated in flight and fell into Jamaica Bay, about one mile north of the main wreckage site. The plane lost an engine due to G-forces.As the engine separated it flew through the air on its own. As it did so, it crackled and sputtered loudly as it burnt off the last of its fuel before landing in a gas station next to the gas pumps. The airplane rolled over belly up; as it did so the pilot gave the remaining engine full throttle which caused the plane to go 90 degrees vertical. The plane's other engine subsequently separated in flight and fell several blocks east of the main wreckage site. A few hundred feet off the ground, all power was cut and the plane went into a flat spin. It angled downwards as it did this, and eventually impacting nose down into Belle Harbor, destroying three houses (258,262, and 266 Beach 131st Street) and spraying fiery debris along Beach 131st Street south of Newton Avenue. All 260 people aboard the plane and five people on the ground died, and the impact forces and a post-crash fire destroyed the plane.
