NT, convince me "cutting the cord" is a good idea

Is there some kind of intro link?
Is there a difference between the Amazon Fire stick & the Amazon Fire tv? Being both are jailbroken?

Everything needed to learn how to use xbmc/kodi is on YouTube and the kodi website. Just start googling that's how I learned to use it. It's similar to jailbroken iPhones and cydia in that it uses repositories so you can install different addons (apps)

exactly yea the basics are all there.... as far as making 24/7 streams, p2p streaming, epgs etc... thats more html and codes etc... and im not sure if there are youtube videos for that....

there is a tv guide live tv repo thats ready made in ustvnow dixie, but i think its like 20 bucks or so a month....and its basically like directv, uverse etc.... but you can add things like foreign channels and movie repos aka like 1channel things of that matter.

the easiest way to have like a set program list channels..... wont have a tv guide tho is to use genesis, navi x, phoenix, iptv, alluc.... a few more i cant think of right now and create a my favourites play list and a shortcut on the main page.

that way it will just have a scrollible list of all the shortcut tv shows, channels, streaming movie repos all at once ala like scrolling thru tv channels.

Got a chromecast recently, pretty sweet. Probably upgrade to something else in the future since the laptop streaming is laggy. Need them TV shows/movies. :nerd:

Ok that's what I meant.

If your device is rooted I would make sure you block automatic updates otherwise you run risk of bricking it. As far as Im concerned there's no real reason to have it rooted unless you want to use the USB port for external storage. But I can't imagine what you would need extra storage for is xbmc has all the movies and TV shows you could want

I've been really considering purchasing a device that can run Kodi. I've been looking at the Asus Chromebox:

Amazon product ASIN B00IT1WJZQ
Do any of you guys have that?

There seems to be a lot of really good reviews for the Amazon Fire TV with it running Kodi. Does the remote that comes with the Fire TV work with Kodi?

Another question I'm a bit confused about. What is the difference between OpenElec & Kodi?

Is OpenElec a Linux based OS and Kodi is the actual program that does everything?

Do any of you guys have that? - YES. Read previous comments on this thread where it gets detailed. I even have a youtube with examples.

Another question I'm a bit confused about. What is the difference between OpenElec & Kodi?  OpenElec is the true platform in which XBMC was originally created (LINUX).  Everything else is based off that.

Is OpenElec a Linux based OS and Kodi is the actual program that does everything?  see above.  I highly recommend the Asus Chromebox bud.  Best out there for what you are trying to do.
Replied in above quote

openelec is a preconfigured preprogrammed software suite of xbmc/kodi that can be installed on certain streaming devices

What exactly are the steps on getting Kodi on the Chromebox? Can you just turn it on and select an option to install Openelec? I don't understand. If it's anything like the Chromebook, then it's going to be a pain. I tried installing Ubuntu with xbmc on Chromebook using various versions and they all had one problem or another making it unuseable. If Chromebox were a simple plug and play solution, I'd buy that schit right now.

Other thing, why does Kodi have so much buffering issues on HD streams? What are the speed requirements for it to run flawlessly? I'm on a 15Mbps connection on wifi. I have no problems with SD, just HD. Amazon, Netflix or any other HD streaming sites only use up to about 3Mbps at 1080p, so what's the deal with Kodi?

Finally think I've found a use for my old Macbook. Gonna set it up as a my home/remote media server. load Kodi on it and off I go!

Anyone use a Macbook too for this or foresee any issues?
